Henry Koster directed this cloying family musical based on the true life story of Soeur Sourire, a Belgian nun whose recordings made her an overnight sensation on The Ed Sullivan Show. Debbie Reynolds stars as Sister Ann, a Belgian nun who likes to compose little tunes on her guitar. She writes the song "Dominique" for a lonely little boy, Dominic Arlien (Ricky Cordell), whose mother has died and whose father is an alcoholic. Father Clementi (Ricardo Montalban) tries to promote the song, getting help from his old friend Robert Gerarde (Chad Everett), a record producer. "Dominique" becomes an international hit, thanks to Robert's efforts, and Ed Sullivan appears on the scene to film Sister Ann for his television program. Unsure of how to handle her amazing success, Sister Ann seeks out Father Clementi for advice, unsure of whether to give up her singing and remain a nun or to continue on with her singing career and renounce her vows. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

This is the first of several episodes built around Martin's most remarkable invention, a time machine--or more specifically, the Cathode-Ray Centrifugal Time Breakascope (CCTBS for short). Accidentally activating, the machine, Tim (Ray Walston) is hurtled back to the England of the year 1215, just before the signing of the Magna Carta. Equally accidentally, Tim prevents the crucial document from being signed into law by King John (Anthony Eustrel)--and it is up to Martin (Ray Walston) to make certain that world history is not disastrously altered! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

To escape arrest, small-time bookie Steve Boland (Charles Bronson) joins the army. Soon he figures that he'd have been better off in jail: an unrepentant foul-up, Boland just can't seem to get in step with military protocol. All this changes when Steve falls in love with level-headed Ilsa (Violet Rensing). In a thoroughly out-of-left-field plot development, Steve becomes a hero when acting upon Ilsa's warning that there's a communist plot afoot to assassinate President Eisenhower! The trade magazine Variety observed that the banality of When Hell Broke Loose could be gauged by the fact that two of the characters are named "Brooklyn" and "Jonesey." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Adapted by Robert Anderson from a story by James A. Michener, the Robert Wise-directed soaper Until They Sail is set in World-War-II New Zealand. Paul Newman plays been-there-done-that U.S. marine captain Jack Harding, assigned to investigate servicemen's requests to marry local girls. An unemotional cipher, Harding begins to warm up when he meets war widow Barbara Leslie Forbes (Jean Simmons), a woman with three sisters (played by Joan Fontaine, Piper Laurie, and Sandra Dee -- what a gene pool!). The Newman-Simmons relationship is played against the romance between uptight spinster Anne Leslie (Fontaine) and good-natured officer Richard Bates (Charles Drake), and the dysfunctional marriage between the emotionally desperate (and nymphomaniacal) Delia Leslie (Laurie) and slimy Shiner Friskett (Wally Cassell), who is off in battle. The fourth sister, Evelyn (Dee), watches her sisters' amorous pursuits longingly, her mind occupied by her own true love, who is off to war. Until They Sail was a copacetic reunion between star Newman and director Robert Wise, who'd previously collaborated in Somebody Up There Likes Me. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
