Nearly 40 years after Che Guevara's execution in Bolivia, director Steven Soderbergh retraces the life of the iconic Cuban revolutionary in this nearly four-and-a-half-hour saga. Part 1 begins on November 26, 1956, as Fidel Castro (Demián Bichir) sails into Cuban waters with 80 rebels in tow. Among those rebels is Argentine doctor Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Benicio Del Toro), a man who shares Castro's dream of overthrowing corrupt dictator Fulgencio Batista. As the struggle gets under way, Guevara proves an indispensable part of the revolution due to his firm grasp on the concepts of guerilla warfare. Guevara is heartily embraced by both his comrades and the Cuban people, and quickly rises through the ranks to become first a commander, and ultimately a revolutionary hero. Part 2 of the saga begins with Guevara at the absolute peak of his fame and power. Disappearing suddenly, Guevara subsequently resurfaces in Bolivia to organize a modest group of Cuban comrades and Bolivian recruits in preparation for the Latin American Revolution. But while the Bolivian campaign would ultimately fail, the tenacity, sacrifice, and idealism displayed by Guevara during this period would make him a symbol of heroism to followers around the world. A dejected strip club bouncer attempts to atone for the sins of his past by protecting a little girl from a vampiric preacher in Tooth and Nail director Mark Young's moody horror film. Hazel Fortune (Yul Vasquez) is a burnt-out alcoholic who works in a southern strip club. Ever since he caused the death of his daughter, Hazel has fallen into a hopeless cycle of grief and despair. Then, one day, Starla (Nicole DuPort) walks into the club where Hazel works looking for a job. She's not like the other girls in the club, because all Starla wants is to raise enough money to give her daughter Hope a better future. When local fire and brimstone preacher The Reverend sees Starla, he makes it his holy mission to deliver her from evil. Before The Reverend can save Starla's soul, however, he is beset by a gang of wandering vampires and transformed into a night-walking bloodsucker. Director Ridley Scott spins this yarn concerning a Harlem drug kingpin (Denzel Washington) who smuggles heroin into the country by hiding it in the bodies of U.S. soldiers killed during battle in Vietnam. There was a time when no one noticed reserved driver Frank Lucas (Washington), but when the criminal kingpin he was charged with transporting through the city streets suddenly dies, Lucas seizes the opportunity to build his own criminal empire. In the following months, Lucas solidifies his status as Harlem's most innovative drug dealer by delivering a product that is purer than the competitors' and cheaper, as well. When innovative businessman Lukas attempts to go semi-legit by becoming one of the Manhattan borough's biggest civil supporters, however, street-savvy outcast cop Ritchie Roberts (Russell Crowe) begins to sense a sizable shift in the hierarchy of the drug underworld. But Roberts is one of the few honest detectives operating within a corrupt system, and as he sets out to investigate the case, crooked detective Trupo (Josh Brolin) does everything in his power to compromise the integrity of his idealistic counterpart. Upon clearing all of the usual Mafia-connected suspects, Roberts begins to believe that a previously unknown black power player has come out of the woodwork to dominate the local drug trade. While Roberts and Lucas may be operating on opposite sides of the law, the one thing that both men have in common is a strict code of ethics that separates them from their opportunistic colleagues. Things that Hang from Trees constitutes American director Ido Mizrahy's debut feature. As adapted by singer-songwriter Aaron Louis Tordini from his own novella, this defiantly eccentric drama unfolds on a surreal, southern gothic landscape. Eight-year-old Tommy, incorrectly read as mentally-impaired by many of the local townspeople, lives alone with his skanky mother (Deborah Kara Unger), a sex shop owner. This emotionally troubled child also struggles with painful memories of his abusive, estranged father (Ray McKinnon) - whose mistreatment he recreates in a self-flagellating manner by systematically subjecting himself to the sadism of the local bully (Ryan Parker). While the town barber (Daniel von Bargen) - a psychotic religious nut - obsesses over Tommy's mother, Tommy fantasizes about watching the town fireworks from atop the local lighthouse. The boy finally realizes this dream, but when he descends, he happens upon a shocking discovery that changes his world forever by bringing a permanent end to his childhood innocence. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Stars Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return along with director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for this sequel to the 1995 sleeper hit Bad Boys, the film that sparked the careers of both actors, as well as Bay. Once again, Lawrence and Smith play hotshot, wisecracking Miami narcotics officers Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey. This time around, Burnett and Lowrey have been assigned to head up a task force to investigate the illegal trafficking of ecstasy into the city. They discover that an underground gang war has been instigated by drug kingpin Johnny Tapia (Jordi Molla). In order to cut off the flow of the designer drug, they have to take down Tapia. Unfortunately, there's a wrench thrown into the gears in the form of Burnett's sister Syd, whom Lowrey takes a liking to and begins a relationship with. Tensions rise between the partners, threatening both their friendship and the investigation and putting Syd in harm's way. Also returning from the first film are Joe Pantoliano as Captain Howard, Theresa Randle as Burnett's wife Theresa, and former-NBA star John Salley as 'Hacker' Fletcher. Among the supporting players new to this entry in the series are Peter Stormare and musician, spoken-word artist, and sometimes-actor Henry Rollins. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

In 1990, Pretty Woman turned Julia Roberts into a star and gave Richard Gere's career a much-needed boost; for 1999, Roberts and Gere reunited with director Garry Marshall for the romantic comedy Runaway Bride. Roberts plays Maggie, who has left so many prospective husbands at the altar that she has gained notoriety as "the Runaway Bride," and a reporter (played by Richard Gere) is assigned to write a story about her. He tracks her down to a small town in Maryland where she's spending time with her family and preparing to give marriage another try. However, the more time she spends with the persistent reporter, the more second thoughts she has about her fiancé (Christopher Meloni). Hector Elizondo, another Pretty Woman alumnus, appears in the supporting cast alongside Joan Cusack, Paul Dooley, and Rita Wilson. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Dan Zukovic wrote and directed the L.A. social satire The Last Big Thing. He also stars in the film as Simon Geist, a self-styled intellectual, cultural critic, and agent provocateur . Simon is spewing his bile about the millennial decline of popular culture to the oblivious patrons of a video store when he gets the attention of Darla (Susan Heimbeinder). Darla, a "trust fund baby" who resentfully accepts her father's financial support, responds to Simon's nihilistic rhetoric and his air of certainty. She's drawn to "the mystery of someone who appears to have an agenda." Soon, Darla is helping Simon by setting up interviews with up-and-coming actors and alternative bands for his magazine, "The Next Big Thing." Of course, the magazine doesn't actually exist, and the interviews Simon conducts are essentially performance art pieces in which he insults his subjects for their complicity in the destruction of American culture. Darla is in love with Simon, who consents to live with her (off her father's money) but is cold to her. Although she keeps her collection of 1970s TV show memorabilia a deep dark secret, he constantly derides her for her unwitting participation in our degraded culture. One of the actors Simon interviews, Brent (Mark Ruffalo of You Can Count on Me) loses his gig on a TV medical drama, and shows up on Simon's doorstep, saying he's in a "period of re-evaluation," and Darla nervously welcomes him into their circle. Simon also interviews a pretty model, Tedra (Pamela Dickerson), who sees through his magazine ruse instantly. Tedra is still intrigued with Simon, and gets him a job directing a music video for a hot new band he'd previously interviewed. Meanwhile, Darla begins producing her own magazine, which will expose the truth about her relationship with Simon, and his sordid past. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Without permission, Monica (Roma Downey) impulsively uses her angelic powers to help Scott Walden (Robert Hays), a "solid citizen" whose sordid past comes to light when he is charged with murder, escape from police custody. Even worse, Monica lies about her complicity in Walden's escape. Enter Special Angel Agent Sam (Paul Winfield), who grimly informs Monica that her future as a Heavenly case worker is in dire jeopardy. Meanwhile, it is revealed that Scott is not guilty as charged--but he is still far from "innocent", and must undergo a harrowing out-of-body experience to face the consequences of his actions. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A bright young African-American boy attempts to survive life in the city by acting as an errand boy for a drug dealer in this thoughtful, sharply plotted drama. Known as Fresh, the young man must use his delivery jobs to support himself and his troubled sister, receiving nothing from his distant, alcoholic father but the occasional chess lesson. His intelligence and quiet determination serve him well, as he wins the trust of his employer and settles into an unpleasant but survivable routine. Even this small comfort disappears, however, when Fresh accidentally witnesses the killing of a classmate and becomes a potential target himself. Forced into an impossible situation, he puts his experience and strategic ability to good use, developing a tricky plan to protect his own life and defeat the killers. First-time director Boaz Yakin emphasizes restraint and realism, presenting potentially sensationalistic material with a minimum of violence and flash. Instead, attention is placed on the strong, layered performances, particularly Sean Nelson as Fresh and Samuel L. Jackson as his embittered father. While some have questioned the film's treatment of inner city life, the film was generally acclaimed, thanks to its seriousness and complexity. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

Struggling musicians vie for success in the hard world of the New York hip-hop scene in this gritty urban drama. Rich (Jeffrey D. Sams) is convinced he has a future as a rapper -- so much so that he leaves his wife and family to go to New York and reach for the brass ring. While scuffling for work, Rich meets another MC, I Tick (Ron Brice), whose roughneck style is a contrast to Rich's smooth delivery. The two rhymers begin working together and soon find that they may have a shot at the big time. The supporting cast includes Maura Tierney, Larry Gillard Jr., and Leo Burmester; rapper MC Lyte contributes to the soundtrack. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Law & Order launched its third season (and its new Wednesday-night time slot) with a complex murder mystery involving a "high-fashion" photographer who sidelines as a pimp. Found murdered in his studio, the photographer has left behind a rather sizeable address book, crammed with the names and phone numbers of his models. As investigating detective Logan (Chris Noth) and Cerreta (Paul Sorvino) discover, virtually every one of the ladies in the dead man's "little black book" had ample motive to knock him off. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
