Based on a series of children's books by David Kirk, this cartoon special features the voice of Brooke Shields as Miss Spider, a sensible young arachnid who, within a few minutes after the opening credits, has become Mrs. Spider. Happily wed to the nerdish but loveable Holley (voiced by Rick Moranis), Miss Spider hopes to experience the joys of a genuine family, something denied her when she was adopted as an infant. Alas, things get off to a shaky start when the spiders' wedding party is spoiled by a huge, rampaging chicken. Not long afterward, however, Miss Spider's son Squirt demonstrates that even huge, rampaging chickens can have maternal feelings when he tries to unite an egg with its "mama." Employing 3-D animation, vivid characterizations and eminently delightful colors and background art, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids was produced by Canada's Nelvana studios on behalf of the Nickelodeon cable service, where it first aired on March 31, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Olie Polie is a little robot boy who lives on an all-robot world far away from Earth. As Olie, his family and friends prepare for his sister Zowie's birthday party, they don't know that their plans are going to be rudely interrupted by Gloomius Maximus, the evil villain who hates fun and happiness -- and especially hates birthday parties. Gloomius learns of plans for Zowie's party and immediately launches a "gloomerator" ray at planet Polie. Fortunately, Olie and his friends ward off the ray's fun-deadening effects, and together they laugh Gloomius away -- but not before he escapes with the super-silly ray that Olie had made for Zowie. A damper is also put on the party when Pappy, Olie's grandfather, bursts his happy gear and is then captured by Gloomius, and dampened even further when Gloomius steals planet Polie, intending to relocate it forever into the dark, mirthless Galaxy of Gloom. Fortunately, Olie and company foil all of the villain's plans, and an act of kindness on Zowie's part even succeeds in reforming Gloomius from evil genius to all-around good guy. ~ Craig Butler, All Movie Guide

Critters, an amusing horror comedy directed byStephen Herek, is the story of a family menaced by eight basketball sized creatures from outer space who arrive at their Kansas farm in search of food. Helen Brown (Dee Wallace Stone) and Brad (Scott Grimes), owners of the farm find themselves held hostage as the creatures roll, jump and bounce around during the night. They are pursued by a pair of inept, intergalactic bounty hunters, Charlie (Don Keith Opper) and Johnny (Terrence Mann) who can shape-shift at will and are packing weapons capable of taking care of any creature they encounter. The special effects of this humorous thriller are extremely good and the creatures themselves have distinct and separate personalities. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

In this flat attempt at comedy by the director of the Police Academy series, Neal Israel, a brash Dana Cannon (John Murray, brother of Bill) lands in a crooked re-education school for delinquent drivers, run by Deputy Halik (James Keach, brother of Stacey). The objective is to lord it over the miscreant drivers sent to the school (wrongly given citations and tickets by cops out to fill a quota, according to opening sequences) and make some money in the bargain. Deputy Halik has already decided to flunk out anyone in his classes, with the objective of impounding their cars and then auctioning off the vehicles to the highest bidders. Dana, the irrepressible new student, manages to unite the other put-upon drivers at the school into a single, determined faction -- and trouble quickly brews. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Convicted murderer Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald had hoped that, by telling his side of the story to investigative journalist Joe McGinniss, the authorities would be persuaded of MacDonald's innocence. Instead, McGinniss ended up unswerving in his belief of MacDonald's guilt, and the result was the devastating best-seller Fatal Vision. In this two-part TV adaptation of McGinniss' book, Gary Cole plays MacDonald, a former Green Beret officer, while Frank Dent essays the role of McGinniss. MacDonald's wife and two children are brutally murdered in their Fort Bragg, North Carolina home on February 17, 1970. The prime suspect, MacDonald insists that the killings were committed by a gang of stoned-out hippies, a story that at first is accepted in toto by the doctor's father-in-law Freddy Kassab (Karl Malden). But after MacDonald is officially exonerated, Kassab notices several holes in his son-in-law's story, and becomes convinced that MacDonald was in fact the murderer. Through Kassab's persistence, as well as the uncovering of new forensic evidence, MacDonald is ultimately convicted for all three murders in 1979. Since the TV premiere of Fatal Vision on November 18 and 19, 1984, there has been a growing movement by MacDonald's sympathizers to discredit McGinniss' book and to retry the case--a movement that has been hampered time and again by MacDonald's own erratic behavior. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Three of the hallmarks of education in America -- nudity, teenage sex, and big, destructive gags -- are on plentiful display in this teen comedy. Christine (Phoebe Cates), a student at an exclusive all-girls private school, is in love with Jim (Matthew Modine), who attends an academy for boys nearby. Christine's archrival Jordan (Betsy Russell) also has her eye on Jim, and she is willing to do whatever she can to steal him away. Jim's über-slob buddy Bubba (Michael Zorek) is going with Betsy (Kathleen Wilhoite), Christine's cynical friend, though he would probably be unfaithful if any other woman were willing to get near him. Bubba and his pals sneak into the girls' school dressed in drag in hopes of reaching the Promised Land (better known as the women's shower room), while Christine and Jim run away together for the weekend, though their escapade isn't as romantic as they had hoped. Among the adults observing the chaos are Ray Walston, Fran Ryan, Martin Mull, and Sylvia Kristel; one of the sexy students on display is future scream queen Brinke Stevens. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
