In an innovative collaboration, the maker of this movie got the cooperation of the mainstream director (Ettore Scola) to shoot this film on the set for the film Captain Fracassa's Journey. While the latter film is being made, the characters in this film are all attempting to break into show biz, or are coping with their lowly status in it. One character is a would-be screenwriter who is attempting to corner the producer of the film in order to give him his first script -- which may or may not have been commissioned. Two extras have a lot of fun playing bloodied-up corpses in the main movie. Another character is a young mother, hoping to get an acting part. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Liv Ullmann plays real-life Jewish dissident and astronomer Ida Nudel in this historical biography. Ida is denied papers to emigrate after her lover Yuli (Daniel Olbrychski) is release from a labor camp. When Yuli and Ida's sister Elena (Aurore Clement) receive their papers, Ida rides with them on a train bound for Vienna and jumps off before she crosses the border. Arrested for protesting in Moscow in 1980, Ida is sent to an all-male prison where she is in constant danger of assault. After being transferred to a woman's camp, Ida returns to Moscow to find that her apartment is occupied, Yuli has married, and she is banished from the city she loves. Ida wanders from village to village until she recalls her story to an American reporter. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

Ugo Tognazzi and Michel Serrault go through their well-worn passes in this third sequel to their international hit La Cage aux Folles. In La Cage aux Folles 3: The Wedding the element of Woman is introduced to the carefree world of the middle-aged gay couple of Renato (Ugo Tognazzi) and Albin (Michel Serrault). In this effort, Albin stands to inherit a large part of his Aunt Emma's money (and a large chunk of Scotland) on the condition that he marry a woman and father a child. Albin doesn't want to satisfy his Aunt Emma's will because he is what he is, but Renato needs the money to save his St. Tropez nightclub. So Albin grudgingly consults marriage broker Stephane Audran and tries to act like a conservative heterosexual. Albin runs the gamut in trying to conform, from considering going to Lourdes, to suicide. When all hope appears to be lost, the gay duo finally latch onto a pregnant girl, Cindy (Antonella Interlenghi), who decides that marrying Albin is a shade better than trying to kill herself. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

This softcore film features a depressed, pessimistic brother (Lorenzo Lena) who spends his days watching TV and looking at porno magazines, a fashion-designer sister (Monica Guerritore) with a boyfriend and her own sexual hang-ups, and incest. The brother likes to photograph his sister, hence the title of this standard, stock-in-trade, sexploitation film. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In this Z-grade Italian "gorror" movie, an American student and her friends go on a tour of the Greek islands and find themselves victimized and eaten by a disfigured psychotic cannibal who thinks that eating the flesh of strangers will help him atone for eating his own family after they were shipwrecked. Italian shlockmeister Joe D'Amato directed this yummy bit of fun. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Professional soldier Bernard Giraudeau is enmeshed in an affair with the beautiful but very much married Laura Antonelli. Transferred to a remote outpost, Giraudeau discovers to his chagrin that the only woman in the region (Valeria D'Obici) is about as appealing as a plate of pickles. Even so, Giraudeau falls madly in love with the woman, utterly forgetting Antonelli. He also forgets that he's a human being at fade-out time, metamorphosing into an epileptic bear! Perhaps Passion of Love made more sense in its original French-language version, Passione D'Amore. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
