In this antic sex farce, a sexually vigorous older woman (Irene Pappas) and her similarly active gay son Stratos Tzortzoglou) have their amiable life together thrown into high confusion when they both become the love object of an apparently bisexual gym instructor (Panos Mihalopoulos) who claims to be a relative of Maria Callas. Since they are both very attracted to the boy and are also fanatic fans of the opera, he gains ready entry into their lives. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Shadow puppetry is not only part of the heritage of East Asia; Greece had its own traditional form of this popular art. In this leisurely drama, set in 1950s Athens, Antonis Barkis (Kostas Kasakos) is the master puppeteer for a traditional shadow show. However, although he is still making a living, it is clear that other forms of popular entertainment will soon supplant this one. This does not improve Antonis' temper, and his assistant's desires to modernize their entertainments only make it worse. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Produced, directed and written in his traditionally episodic fashion by Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos, the internationally produced Landscape in the Mist concentrates on a pair of runaway children, played by Tania Palaiogou and Michalis Zeke. The kids are en route to Germany, where they believe their father is dwelling. The adventures during their trek range from heartwarming (the kids are briefly "adopted" by a group of itinerant actors and by affable cyclist Stratos Tzortzoglou) and harrowing (Palaiogou is raped by a callous truck driver). The film's title refers to the kids' perception of the "promised land" of Germany. Landscape in the Mist was the recipient of numerous festival awards, including the 1988 Venice Film Festival Silver Lion. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
