Precocious Pippi Longstocking (Tami Erin) falls off her father's pirate ship and washes up in a small coastal town in Florida. She causes social worker Miss Bannister (Eileen Brennan) no end of trouble and influences two neighbor kids with her mischief-making and infectious attitude. Pippi uses her magic powers to beguile the locals but also to help save some orphans from a burning building. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide
- Starring:

Magnum (Tom Selleck) is asked by Deputy DA Carol Baldwin (Kathleen Lloyd) to help locate her 17-year-old cousin Becky (Linda Grovenor). The one person who may know the girl's whereabouts is her former boyfriend Darryl (Asher Brauner), who is now serving time on a prison farm. In order to pry the necessary information from Darryl, Magnum goes undercover as a hardened convict--with the expected violent results. Ironically, this final episode of Magnum, P.I's fifth season was cowritten by real-life "private eye to the stars" Anthony Pellicano, who later wound up behind bars himself on a variety of charges! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
An interesting low-budget entry in the post-Jaws animals-run-amok genre (which also owes more than a little to Hitchcock's The Birds), this noisy, violent thriller features the prophetic premise of a widening gap in the ozone layer (thanks to human indulgences in hairspray and other aerosol products) which unleashes brain-frying radiation and causes assorted woodland creatures to go for the throats of unsuspecting Sierra backpackers. As if that weren't horrific enough, the poor kids are also placed in the position of defending themselves against a rampaging Leslie Nielsen -- whose hammy performance will probably have fans of the Naked Gun series and their ilk waiting for a punch line that never arrives. Perennial B-movie couple Christopher George and Lynda Day George round out the cast. Day of the Animals is also known as Something Is out There. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

- Christopher George, Leslie Nielsen, (more)
Donna Mills guest stars as Bernice Rawson, a small-time crook with big-time aspirations. Latching onto an ex-convict who wants to go straight, Bernice talks him into pulling off one last heist--a jewelry robbery that is all but guaranteed to bring down the full wrath of the FBI. In the original TV Guide listings, much was made of the fact that Donna Mills was playing a villainous role in stark contrast with her "good girl" characterization in Play Misty for Me; Knots' Landing, of course, was still several years in the future. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
When an Indian agent is assaulted on a reservation, it's a federal crime demanding the attention of the FBI. Thus it is that Inspector Erskine (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) investigates several mining accidents near a sacred Indian burial ground--accidents that the locals have chalked up to supernatural activity. Filmed on location at California's Mono Crater Park, this episode marks one of the final pre-M*A*S*H appearances of Wayne Rogers. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
With the "inside" help of misguided maid Maria Montoya (Pilar Seurat), a gang of thieves steals a 33-carat diamond from wealthy Everlyn Harcourt (June Vincent). The FBI enters the scene after one of the crooks is killed during the heist and the rest scatter to the four winds. Athough the gang's fence is captured, master thief Victor Amazeen (Jack Klugman) manages to elude a trap set by Inspector Erskine (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.)--but if Amazeen thinks his problems are over, he is sorely mistaken. Featured among the villains is future Hill St. Blues star Daniel J. Travanti, here billed as Dan Travanty. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The titular "architect" in this episode is Arthur McBride (Monte Markham), so named for his brilliant execution of complex crimes. Escaping from a federal prison with two cohorts named Borden (Billy Dee Williams) and Deal (Dabbs Greer), the brash McBride laughs at the fact that he's "graducated" to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. In fact, McBride intends to make fools of the Feds by pulling off a racetrack robbery right under their noses! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Neil Kriton (Michael Tolan), a respectable businessman, is none too pleased when his black-sheep younger brother Ricky (Scott Marlowe) shows up, begging for a job. Neil relents and finds employment for Ricky, despite the reservations of Neil's wife Denise (Julie Adams) and sister-in-law Lori Donna Baccala). Perhaps the elder Kriton would have been wise to heed the warnings of the women in his life: Ricky happens to be a fugitive from the FBI, wanted for hijacking and attempted murder--and he has no intention of reforming. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
With the help of his accomplice Hammond (Mark Richman), Captain Jennerson (Ralph Bellamy) has deliberately sunk his freighter in order to collect $40,000 in insurance. What Jennerson doesn't know is that Hammond is having an affair with his wife Gloria (Elizabeth Allen), who plans to dump the captain once the check arrives. He is also unaware that his scuttled freighter contained a sealed shipment of deadly chlorine, which will wreak havoc upon the coastline of Hawaii should the seals be shattered in an approaching tidal wave! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Using the alias "Richard Spaulding", fugitive Richard Kimble (David Janssen) pays a visit to his former mentor Dr. Andrew McAllister (Laurence Naismith), now gravely ill and confined to a wheelchair. Because of his virulent "anti-smog" campaign, McAllister is regarded by most people as a harmless crank. The truth, however, is that the doctor has become mentally unhinged, and he intends to lob a spectacular final "protest" against a local smoke-belching factory by destroying it with a bomb--with Kimble unwittingly delivering the explosives. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Burt Reynolds is cast as psychotic criminal Mike Murtaugh, who with his partner Frankie Metro (James Farentino) hijacks a USMC weapons truck, killing a marine in the process. The FBI launches a nationwide search in hopes of stopping Murtaugh before he can either utilize the stolen weapons or sell them to an enemy power. A bulldozer is brought into play in the action-filled climax of this episode, in which Inspector Erskine (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) seriously considers resigning from the FBI in favor of a more lucrative civilian job. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The Beverly Hillbillies launched its fourth TV season on September 15, 1965 with the series' first color episode, "Admiral Jed Clampett." This time out, banker Drysdale purchases a yacht for hillbilly millionaire Jed Clampett. After first overcoming Granny's fear of sharks, the Clampetts head to the dockyards, where Jed mistakes a Navy destroyer for his own vessel. Former child star Frank Coghlan Jr., recently retired from a 23-year-career as a Naval officer, was technical advisor for this episode and also played the small role of a helmsman. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Season Two of Petticoat Junction begins when a cute little dog follows Betty Jo (Linda Kaye) home to the Shady Rest Hotel. Naturally, Betty Jo wants to keep the pooch, but her mom Kate (Bea Benadaret) is dead set against it. And just as naturally, by the end of the episode the little mutt proves to be indispensable to all concerned. This episode introduces canine thespian Higgins in the role of the Bradley family's pet dog, who was never identified as anything other than "Dog" or "Boy". Several years later, Higgins would achieve big-screen fame as the star of the popular Benji movies. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
A little bit of the Orient comes to the Shady Rest when Nobuko (Aki Hara), Betty Jo's Japanese pen-pal, pays a visit. With an effusion of Hooterville hospitality, the local menfolk fall all over themselves trying to make the lovely Nobuko feel right at home. Modern-day viewers be warned: Though this episode is in reasonably good taste, some of the "East is East, West is West etc." jokes may not be entirely P.C. by today's standards. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Betty Jo (Linda Kaye) thinks her pet dog (played by a pre-Benji Higgins) is the prettiest pooch on earth. Thus it is that she enters a picture of the dog in a contest held by a pet-food company. The fun begins when the mutt is chosen as one of the five finalists--and the winner will achieve stardom on a dog-food commercial (providing a golden opportunity for the typical mid-1960s sitcom digs at the Madison Avenue advertising world). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
