Chaos reigns in the Catskills in this low-budget teen comedy. Kavell (Michael Lembeck) and Bergman (Philip Casnoff) are college students who spend their summers working in the dining hall at Camp Oskemo, an upstate New York summer camp where they're the senior waiters. Serving food to bratty children doesn't interest them nearly as much as trying to make time with the female counselors at the camp, among them pretty but chaste Vicki (Lisa Shure) and attractive but significantly less virginal Evie (Fran Drescher). Kavell and Bergman also wage an annual war against the junior waiters with the help of deranged server Grossman (Dennis Quaid), but their real nemesis is Wallman (David Huddleston), the owner of the camp who makes no secret of his dislike for the waiters. Over the course of one eventful summer, Kavell, Bergman and their fellow food slingers dose the entire camp with amphetamines, taint the Kosher meals with pork, screen pornographic movies during Parent's Weekend, run a tank through the campgrounds and destroy the waiter's housing and most of what surrounds it. Hilarity, or something like it, ensues. While seemingly influenced by Meatballs, Gorp was actually shot at roughly the same time as Bill Murray's summer camp vehicle, though it was released nine months later. Circumstantial evidence indicates that a man named Cassus (Lindsey Ginter) has slain an entire family, but Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) wants the due process of law to determine the man's guilt or innocence. While fleeing a lynch mob, Hercules and Cassus are trapped in a mineshaft, where Cassus is pinned under a boulder. It is up to Iolaus (Michael Hurst) to locate the one person who can determine if the dying Cassus is really a murderer -- and that person is the condemned man's own son. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Nemis the Centaur (Cliff Curtis) is given the opportunity to avenge the death of his twin brother at the hands of Hercules (Kevin Sorbo)--who is at this moment en route to a wedding in the town of Nespa. Since Nemis also covets the bride Penelope (Jacqueline Collin), he looks forward not only to killing Hercules but claiming Penelope for himself. Upon his arrival, Hercules agrees to take on Nemis and his friends in a "friendly" game of combat--only to be rendered blind by the duplicitous Lyla, the girlfriend of one of Nemis's Centaur cronies. Lucy Lawless, later cast as warrior princess Xena, is seen as Lyla. This episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys contained the first of the series' semi-satirical disclaimers ("No Centaurs were harmed during the production of this picture"). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) takes on a rampaging Cyclops (Richard Moll) who is seemingly in cahoots with our hero's treacherous stepmother, the goddess Hera. Along the way, Hercules picks up a traveling companion in the form of shabby traveling salesman Salmoneus (Robert Trebor). After joining forces to defeat their common enemy, Hercules and Salmoneus discover that the Cyclops is not exactly the heartless villain he seems to be -- and that there are two sides to every conflict. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The somber fifth-season continuity of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys is briefly interrupted with this comic episode spotlighting those lovable rapscallions Autolycus (Bruce Campbell) and Salmoneus (Robert Trebor). Stealing a magic lantern, the boys conjure up a sexy genie named -- what else? -- Jinni (Hilary Thompson). Alas, the curvaceous bottle imp can't seem to get any of the boys' wishes right -- .and besides, this is an exercise in "Be careful what you wish for." The highlight occurs when Salmoneus, unable to make up his mind what he wants from genie, is split into two halves: "Cry Baby Sal" and "Hyper Sal." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In a story set during the French revolution, crooked Count François Demarigny, who looks a lot like ancient peddler Salmoneus (as well he should, since he is played by Robert Trebor all the same), poses as a dashing bandit called the "Chartreuse Fox" in order to rob the rich and give to himself. The count's intended victim is Marie de Valle (Danielle Cormack), who turns out to be the real Chartreuse Fox. When Marie is captured and sentenced to the guillotine, the count's henchmen -- Robert (Kevin Sorbo) and Jean-Pierre (Michael Hurst), suddenly electing to pattern themselves after their archaic lookalikes Hercules and Iolaus -- vow to rescue the heroine and dedicate their lives to fighting for the rights of the downtrodden. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Hercules and Iolaus do not appear in this episode (though actor Michael Hurst does show up -- in drag!), which amiably spoofs the 1959 Billy Wilder comedy Some Like It Hot. Falsely accused of murdering King Pholus, itinerant peddler Salmoneus (Robert Trebor) and "King of Thieves" Autolycus (Bruce Campbell) elude the authorities by donning women's clothing. In this guise, "Salmonella" and "Autolyca" join the Widow Twanky's all-girl dance troupe. Hoping to score points with "hootchi-coochie-jiggle-wiggle" dancer Cupcake (Lacey Kohl), Autolycus takes on a second false identity of wealthy Farciferous Van Baklava. Alas, Cupcake prefers eating to lovemaking -- but, oh well, nobody's perfect. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Throwing rocks instead of lightning bolts, the mad King Augeus (Grant Bridger) believes himself to be Zeus. Taking advantage of the situation, the evil Hera offers to give Augeus genuine godly powers if he will agree to kill Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) before the sun sets. Already miffed that Augeus has rededicated her temple to Hera, love goddess Aphrodite (Alexandra Tydings) tries to prevent Hercules' demise. As for our hero, he doesn't know which way to turn when Augeus suddenly assumes the shapely form of Aphrodite. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) and his cousin Iloran (Dean O'Gorman) are determined to put an end to plundering and pillaging of warrior princess Xena (Lucy Lawless). As it turns out, however, the real villain of the piece is not Xena, but instead her treacherous lieutenant Darphus (Matthew Chamberlain). When Xena unexpectedly shows compassion in battle, Darphus accuses her of being unfit to lead her minions, forcing her to run the deadly Gauntlet ritual. This puts Hercules in the embarrassing position of having to join forces with his old enemy Xena in order to expunge the "greater evil." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Deon (David Drew Gallagher), son of love goddess Aphrodite, awakens one morning to find that he wields awesome powers. This metamorphosis is a gift from his father Jacobus (Bruce Phillips), who conceived Deon during a one-night stand with Aphrodite. Disliking and disrespecting Jacobus, Deon foolishly elects to use his powers to benefit his Uncle Karis (Grant Bridger) -- all the while refusing to accept the fact that Karis is a bandit. It is up to Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) to battle Deon's "gift" and bring the boy to his senses. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In present-day Hollywood, the staff of Renaissance Productions, the people responsible for the TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, are in a panic. An earthquake has struck Tinseltown, and the series' titular star, Kevin Sorbo, is missing. In order to save their jobs, the series' producers and writers (all of whom bear startling resemblances to other Hercules characters) are forced to audition new actors for the role of Hercules -- and failing that, they desperately improvise new "Hercules-less" story concepts. The tension results in open hostility amongst the staffers -- much to the delight of perennial Hercules villains Ares (Kevin Smith) and Strife (Joel Tobeck), who behave as if they're responsible for the whole mess. Fortunately, salvation is at hand in the form of...well, best not give too much of the story away. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This sci-fi comedy from Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) director Susan Seidelman stars John Malkovich along with several other actors from his Steppenwolf Theatre troupe in Chicago. Malkovich stars as Dr. Jeff Peters, a scientist for the Chemtech Corporation who has invented an affable robotic clone of himself named Ulysses (also played by Malkovich). Unfortunately, Jeff is long on brains but short on personality or warmth, leaving his double an empty vessel, emotionally speaking. Believing that if Ulysses only had a bit more spark he could be utilized as a publicity gimmick and fundraising tool, Chemtech sends public relations executive Frankie Stone (Ann Magnuson) to train him in the ways of the heart and human interaction. What Frankie ends up with, however, is her own personal version of the perfect mate. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
