Jennifer Tilly Movies

A raven-haired actress with an unmistakable voice, Jennifer Tilly was born in Los Angeles, CA, in 1958. Following her parents' divorce when she was five, Tilly relocated with her mother and siblings to the rural setting of Texada Island, British Columbia, where she'd spend most of her childhood. Tilly's acting career began in the early '80s with small roles on shows like Hill Street Blues and Cheers. Her big break came with the part of Monica the singing waitress in 1989's The Fabulous Baker Boys -- a part that was written for her specifically. Though she divorced Simpsons producer Sam Simon in 1984, she continued to show up in films like The Doors and Body Snatchers throughout the '90s, and in 1994 she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway. Another memorable role came in 1996, when she acted opposite Gina Gershon in the erotically charged Bound.

In 1998, Tilly delighted horror fans with a tongue-in-cheek turn in Bride of Chucky, voicing the title role and helping to bring a comic twist to the franchise. She soon found another avenue for her comedic voice talents by joining the cast of the animated series Family Guy as the show's perpetually pregnant neighbor, Bonnie. She then went on to lend her voice talent to such titles as Monsters, Inc., Stuart Little, and The Haunted Mansion. In 2005, Tilly won a World Series of Poker bracelet and a cash prize of 158,625 dollars in the Ladies' No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em event. She went on to win the third World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament and subsequently become a popular and formidable competitor in the world of high-stakes poker. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide

A physician who helps his clients bring new life into the world is accused of an ethical breach that's also criminal in this independent drama. Dr. Freeman (Colm Feore) is a doctor who runs an upscale fertility clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada. Freeman specializes in helping women who have had trouble getting pregnant conceive, usually through artificial insemination techniques or transplanting donated eggs into his patients. Over the course of several weeks, Freeman inseminates nine women from different walks of life, ranging from middle-aged but newly married Lottie (Andie MacDowell) and a lesbian whose reproductive clock is ticking, Elsa (Donna D'Errico) to Frances (Geraldine Chaplin), an aging socialite who needs a son to inherit her husband's fortune and sassy, outspoken Salome (Jennifer Tilly). Of these nine women, eight become pregnant and give birth to healthy children, but when the new mothers compare notes, they discover their children bear a striking resemblance to one another. When journalist Tallulah (Elizabeth McGovern) looks into their story, they begin to suspect that Freeman used his own sperm to fertilize his patients rather than the donor samples they selected, a breach of conduct that lands the doctor in court. Inconceivable also stars Kerry Fox, Amanda Plummer and Colin Mochrie; Geraldine Chaplin's daughter Oona Chaplin co-stars as Frances's grown daughter. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Lois develops kleptomania, leading to a wild shoplifting spree. She lands in prison, only to be broken out by Peter and the kids. The Griffins then take refuge from pursuing policeman Joe Swanson by hiding in "Asiantown." Alas, Joe manages to pick up their trail (no great trick, since Peter has become a popular sumo wrestler), whereupon the family retreats to the sewers, where the plot thickens, as it were. So far as we can determine, this is the only American TV cartoon episode of recent memory to reference the names of both Karl Malden and Corey Haim (two treats in one!) ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The fact that Brian is a dog does not disqualify him from being a contestant on the TV reality series The Bachelorette. Nor does it prevent Brian from falling in love with Brooke (voiced by Jessica Biel), the ambitious starlet who much choose from several bachelors to win the Big Prize. At the same time, Chris is bedeviled by a huge and ever-growing zit, which not only talks (with the voice of Kevin Richardson) but is also clearly intent upon world domination (or at least "Chris domination"). A small-town Canadian waitress pining for the attention of the former high-school football star finds her affections returned from the least likely of places in this entry into the 2005 Vancouver Film Festival from director Vic Sarin. To say that Eve Stuckley (Marla Sokoloff) has a low self-opinion would be an understatement. Though she may not necessarily be Cosmo material, the lovelorn waitress with dreams of being accepted to a New York City art school and a slight case of body dysmorphic disorder just can't seem to catch the eye of town hunk Jeff Sweeney (Barry Watson) -- even though Jeff is best friends with Eve's older brother, Chuck (Jonathan Cherry). When mysterious beauty Linda (Monika Schnarre) breezes into town on business, heads immediately turn and she is soon fending off the advances of both Jeff and Chuck. Despite the attentions lavished on her by the handsome duo, Linda is instead attracted to a lonely waitress whose true beauty has gone sadly unrecognized. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Hurricane Norman hits Quahog, destroying much of the neighborhood. The Drunken Clam, which has been the hangout of Peter (voice of Seth MacFarlane) and his friends for years, is spared, but they're aghast to learn that it's been sold and turned into a British pub. Peter returns home to complain to Lois (voice of Alex Borstein) about the "lousy, limey, tea-sucking British bastards," only to find that the pub's new owner (and his new neighbor), Nigel, has dropped by for a visit. He even has a little daughter, Eliza (voice of Tara Strong), who quickly becomes an irritant to Stewie (MacFarlane) with her strong Cockney accent. "Maybe you and your friends can find somewhere else to act like idiots," Lois suggests to Peter. After an abortive visit to The Cherry Pit, which turns out to be a lesbian bar, the boys decide, as Peter puts it, "to fight the British and drive them back to whatever country they came from." Inspired by the revolutionary colonists of old, they go to Quahog Harbor and dump the pub's ale supply into the ocean. Later that night, the pub is burned down, and a drunken Peter can't account for his actions. Soon, he and his friends are thrown in jail, where Joe (voice of Patrick Warburton) runs into a vicious criminal he helped put away. Lois and the other wives soon realize that Nigel himself was responsible for the fire, and set out to bring him to justice. Meanwhile, Stewie is teaching Eliza proper English. In the original broadcast, FOX cut out a scene at the pub, in which Peter is told that in Britain, "fag" means "cigarette" and responds by referring to one of the pub's patrons as a "cigarette." ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Quahog residents brace themselves for the annual return of the "Leafers," obnoxious tourists from New York who flood the town to view the autumn foliage. Inspired by Bonnie's (voice of Jennifer Tilly) impressive figure, Lois (voice of Alex Borstein) joins a Tae-Jitsu class taught by Jared (voice of Peter Gallagher). Lois turns out to have a great talent for fighting. Peter (voice of Seth MacFarlane), disturbed that Jet fans have taken over The Drunken Clam, tries posing as a man-eating tree to scare off the tourists. When he learns of Lois' fighting prowess, he puts up a sign on his lawn, giving folks the opportunity to "Fight the Ass-Kicking Housewife" for ten bucks. Lois, naturally, doesn't go along. Peter feels threatened by Lois' newfound sense of power, and tries to get her to quit. She goes along until Jared asks her to join his advanced class. Soon, Lois is taking on all comers. One night, she interrupts Peter's viewing of "Speed 3: Glacier of Doom" to demand sex. The next morning, a frazzled, humiliated Peter cries to Brian (MacFarlane), "Last night, Lois was the man." When Stewie (MacFarlane) attacks Peter with a baseball bat, they bring him to a therapist, who points out that the Griffins have a lot of anger in their household. They go home determined to smooth things over, but when a round of therapeutic role-playing goes awry, all hell breaks loose. Christmas is approaching. Stewie (voice of Seth MacFarlane) isn't particularly looking forward to playing the baby Jesus in Quahog's annual passion play. Peter (MacFarlane) only seems interested in watching the annual airing of "Kiss Saves Santa." Lois (voice of Alex Borstein) drags him to visit Joe (voice of Patrick Warburton) and Bonnie (voice of Jennifer Tilly), where they find Joe in an unpleasant mood. Stewie learns of Santa and his "constant surveillance of every child on Earth." Peter accidentally gives all of the family's presents to charity. Lois takes the news surprisingly well, and the Griffins head to the mall to buy new presents, leaving Brian (MacFarlane) behind to look after their Christmas Eve turkey. At the mall, the family fights with other last-minute shoppers, and Stewie is shocked to have a chance to sit on the lap of his new nemesis. "Santa, you make it too easy," he taunts. But when he learns that Santa will give him whatever he wants (in Stewie's case, plutonium) in exchange for being "good," he changes his tune. Meanwhile, back at the house, Brian runs into some trouble, thanks in no small part to Peter's purchase of a novelty fire extinguisher. Her Christmas dinner ruined, Lois' calm veneer cracks and she goes on a rampage through town. This lavish, cable-TV remake of Orson Welles' The Magnficent Ambersons endeavored to prove Welles right by adhering to his original screenplay, restoring several scenes which provided additional substance and significance to the story and deepened the characterizations. Set in Indianapolis at the beginning of the 20th century, the story parallels the "destruction" of a gentle, elegant way of life thanks to the introduction of the automobile with the disintegration of the aristocratic Amberson family, the wealthiest clan in town. Self-made millionaire auto manufacturer Eugene Morgan (Bruce Greenwood) returns to Indianapolis after a lengthy absence, determined to wed the recently widowed Isabel Amberson Minafer (Madeline Stowe), who still regrets having spurned him years earlier in favor of a "safer" marriage. Most of those concerned want to see the decent, self-effacing Eugene find happiness with the lovely Isabel, but her spoiled, snobbish son George (Jonathan Rhys-Davies), resenting the threat that Eugene and his automobiles pose to his pampered, superficial lifestyle, violently opposes his mother's romance. George's obnoxiously obstreperous stance seriously strains his own relationship with Eugene's sweet, sensible daughter Lucy (Gretchen Mol). Watching from the sidelines are George's neurotic maiden aunt Fanny Minafer (Jennifer Tilly), Isabel's likably bombastic senator brother George Amberson (William Hootkins), and frail family patriarch Major Amberson (James Cromwell), who, like virtually everyone in the story except Eugene, cannot accept -- or see -- that the times are indeed a-changing. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Shirley MacLaine makes her feature directorial debut with this offbeat comedy. Bruno (Alex D. Linz) is an eight-year-old boy attending a Catholic school; he is bright, is a good student, and wants to become an etymologist. He also likes to wear dresses, which causes him plenty of problems -- bullies beat him up on a regular basis, and the school's Mother Superior (Kathy Bates) thinks that something must be wrong with him. Bruno's mother Angela (Stacey Halprin), who tips the scales at 450 pounds, has just lost her husband Dino (Gary Sinise) to trampy Donna Marie (Joey Lauren Adams). With her pal Dolores (Jennifer Tilly) giving Angela regular reports on Dino's activities, she's too occupied to worry much about her son. When Bruno is hurt one day while wearing a skirt, he's taken to the hospital; with Angela suffering from a heart attack and Dino refusing to look after him, it falls to his grandmother Helen (MacLaine) to take care of the boy. But Bruno has finally found a playmate at school who doesn't find him strange -- Shaniqua (Kaimi Davael), a young black girl who wants to be a cowgirl. While Bruno was Shirley MacLaine's first attempt at directing a fictional film, it was not her first experience behind the camera; she previously made the Oscar-nominated documentary The Other Half of the Sky: A China Memoir. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
