"A family walks into a talent agent's office..." So begins "The Aristocrats," a joke kept mostly secret by stand-up comedians for decades. An intentionally "bad" joke, the laughs in The Aristocrats aren't in the punch-line (one of the only elements that's the same every time), but in the set-up, made unique by each comedian who tells it in an attempt to fashion the world's dirtiest joke. The cat was finally let out of the bag by Penn Jillette and Paul Provenza, the seasoned funnymen who gathered together a hundred people to tell a hundred different renditions of the bit. Among those presenting their personal take on The Aristocrats in this film of the same name are Jason Alexander, Robin Williams, Gilbert Gottfried, Jon Stewart, Emo Philips, and Chris Rock. The Aristocrats premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide
Magicians and comedians Penn & Teller expose faulty "conventional wisdom" and the latest crazes in therapy and better living to the cold light of truth in this collection of episodes from their popular Showtime series. Penn & Teller: BS! Season 2 features the wise and witty duo offering their perspective on animal rights, the war on drugs, hypnosis, the business of looking younger, New Age therapy, 12-step programs, and much more in these 13 episodes. This edition of Penn & Teller: BS! Season 2 features a bowdlerized version of the package's original cover, which uses the common vulgar expression for pernicious nonsense rather than its more delicate initials. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Prepare to laugh through the bitter truth about everything from alternative medicine to the end of the world with the DVD release of Penn & Teller: Bullshit. Presented in 1.33:1 full-frame, the image sports well-balanced colors and even skin tones. Audio is presented in English Dolby Digital 5.1, English Dolby Digital Stereo, and Spanish Mono with optional English subtitles. In addition to including every episode from the first season of the myth-debunking Showtime series, Showtime Entertainment has also included some fun extras. While a bonus episode entitled "The Ghost Segment" is an entertaining exposi of supernatural scams, its tone doesn't match that of most episodes and it's fairly easy to see why it was left on the cutting-room floor. An interview with frequent Penn and Teller collaborator and vocal skeptic James Randi exposes the more damaging effects of so-called psychics and spiritual mediums, with deleted scenes and outtakes giving the viewer a real sense of how fun it must be to be involved in the production of the show. A brief behind-the-scenes segment provides alternate, shot-on-camcorder takes of Penn and Teller in action on the set, and the "wraparounds," while fairly useless, give a quick look at how the segments are connected before the show hits the air. For the uninitiated, there are also biographies for both Penn and Teller, but then again, if you've already shelled out the hard-earned cash to pick up this entertaining release, you're probably well-aware of what you're getting yourself into. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Initially released to IMAX theaters at the crescendo of millennial fever and 60 years after the original Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 was meant to revitalize Walt Disney's goal of a constantly evolving film, with new segments replacing old ones with each re-release. Only The Sorcerer's Apprentice remains, with seven new shorts. Angular, abstracted butterfly-like shapes fly through the air in Beethoven's Symphony No. 5; computer-animated whales take flight in Respighi's Pines of Rome; Al Hirschfeld's caricatures of New York life come alive in George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue; Hans Christian Andersen's The Steadfast Tin Soldier is retold with computer animation against Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2, Allegro, Opus 102; frantic flamingos try to stop their yo-yoing comrade in Camille Saint-Saƫns' Carnival of the Animals, Finale; Donald and Daisy Duck play Noah and his wife trying to manage the ark to Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance; and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth are celebrated in Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. ~ Emru Townsend, All Movie Guide

This award-winning PBS series examines the creative process of artists in different mediums. Here, the late sculptor Nancy Graves reveals how she creates a sense of "anti-gravity" in her colorful sculpture collages, which look as if they are about to tip over. Hosts Penn and Teller offer a series of visual illusions to help explain balance, employing both tightrope walker Brian Dewhurst and a teeter-totter. They throw in some sight gags to keep the video moving. Graves' finished sculpture, a sort-of-clock, is a textbook example of the laws of physics at work, even though it looks like a prop out of Alice in Wonderland. ~ All Movie Guide

When the store's day-care center operator Faith (Joan Fagan) is injured in a parking lot accident, Mimi fills in for her. She soon discovers to her amazement that she gets along quite well with youngsters--and besides, these kids prove to be potent weapons in her ongoing war against Drew (Drew Carey). Meanwhile, Drew organizes a work slowdown to protest the unsafe parking-garage crosswalk where Faith was hurt. When this effort fails, Drew goes on a hunger strike; unfortunately, he doesn't look terribly hungry, so no one cares! Magicians Penn & Teller return as Winfred-Louder's corporate attorneys, named (are you ready?) Fenn and Geller. This episode is dedicated to the memory of fame Cleveland TV horror host "Ghoulardi", aka Ernie Anderson). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
With store employee Nora threatening to sue Drew (Drew Carey) for creating a "hostile workplace" by posting a harmlessly ribald newspaper cartoon, Winfred-Louder's attorneys Fenn and Geller (played, appropriately, by magicians Penn & Teller) pressure Drew to settle the suit out of court. When our hero refuses, Kate (Christa Miller) recommends that he hire her slimy ex-boyfriend Brad (Christopher Darga) as his lawyer. Ultimately, however, Drew chooses to represent himself in court--and we're going to refrain from making that "fool for a client" crack, even though it's true. Meanwhile, Oswald (Diedrich Bader) finds himself attracted to the promiscuous Peaches (Julie McCullough), who's already gone on record with her case of the hots for Drew! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The longest-running show in the history of the American theater (it opened at an off-Broadway theater in the spring of 1960, where it remained until the production finally closed in early 2002) finally arrives onscreen. Hucklebee (Brad Sullivan) and Bellamy (Joel Grey) are a pair of small town fathers who are scheming to bring their children Matt (Joseph McIntyre) and Luisa (Jean Louisa Kelly) together in a romance. As a carnival arrives to bring some excitement to the sleepy village, the fathers persuade a mysterious interloper named El Gallo (Jonathan Morris) to stage a mock abduction of Luisa, which will hopefully prompt Matt to come to her rescue. However, while El Gallo's plan succeeds, he also awakens his innocent charges to the darker and more disappointing side of love. The Fantasticks was shot and edited in 1995, but beyond a few preview screenings, it went unreleased until the fall of 2000. The film marked the dramatic debut of former New Kids on the Block vocalist Joseph McIntyre, and features Teller (of the magic/performance art duo Penn & Teller) in a rare speaking role. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

There are shows on painting, drawing, music, dance, sculpture, photography, and theater. The format used for this series is very similar to the successful, fast-paced format pioneered by Sesame Street. Max Roach, a jazz percussionist, is the featured guest of this program.
