Like George Lucas' American Graffiti, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused is an affectionate look at the youth culture of a bygone era. While Lucas took aim at the conservative 1950's, Linklater jumps ahead a generation to the bicentennial year of 1976 to celebrate the joys of beer blasts, pot smoking and Frampton Comes Alive. Set on the last day of the academic year, the film follows the random activities of a sprawling group of Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlor and finally at a keg party. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Movie Guide

Astronauts Charles Brubaker, John Walker, and Peter Willis (James Brolin, O.J. Simpson, and Sam Waterston, respectively) are hailed as heroes when they become the first men to be rocketed to Mars. Actually the space travelers are as phony as their mission controller, Dr. James Kelloway (Hal Holbrook); to avert a failure that might cost the space program its funding, the Mars-bound vessel has been sent up without a crew, while the helmeted astronauts sit on a movie soundstage, pretending to be in outer space for the benefit of the TV cameras. Unfortunately the Mars ship crashes on arrival, making the astronaut trio thoroughly expendable. Investigative reporter Robert Caulfield (Elliott Gould), who's smelled a rat all along, races against time to prevent NASA from "terminating" the hapless astronauts in order to cover up the conspiracy. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Slated to testify against her husband's criminal bosses, Maggie is forced to adopt several alias and move from one "safe house" to another to avoid being murdered. Placed in charge of Maggie's safety is detective Mike Stone (Karl Malden), who in so doing becomes a marked man himself! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Surrounded by the authorities after a bungled attempt to break through a police checkpoint, five terrorists take several people hostage. Unless they are given safe passage out of San Francisco, the terrorists will detonate a bomb, killing themselves and their prisoners. Making the situation personal for investigating detective Mike Stone (Karl Malden) is that one of the hostages is his own partner Steve Keller (Michael Douglas). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
This crime drama is the fourth in Roger Corman's series of sexy "nurseploitation" films. Three curvaceous health care workers in a big city hospital expose a drug ring that is operating from inside the facility. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
An explosion in Rampart's hospital lab not only endangers the workers, but also some valuable documents. A young woman who is trying to impress her boyfriend and his mother with a homecooked meal falls victim to one kitchen accident after another, ultimately resulting in a call to Squad 51. Dr. Early (Bobby Troup) tries to convince a man that he hasn't been placed under a hex. A sports car, and its driver, are pinned under a gas truck that is on the verge of blowing up. And station mascot Boots confuses one and all with his uncharacteristically lethargic behavior. This episode was originally scheduled to air on January 27, 1973. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Victoria Vetri, who has also acted under the name of Ahna Capri, stars in Group Marriage. The plot is inherent in the title of this combination sex farce and social satire. Six affluent young couples decide to live together for economy's sake. They also decide to exchange mates now and then, just to remain up-to-date with contemporary mores. Soon, however, all 12 participants realize that monogamy has its charms, too. Featured in the cast of Group Marriage is the late, great Claudia Jennings, whose ample physical attributes are shown to excellent advantage. The film also stars comedian Milt Kamen, who evidently had a few extra bills to pay that week. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
