From the twisted comic mind of Doug TenNapel (Earthworm Jim) sprang this weekly, half-hour animated series about three zany cats. Feline siblings Mr. Blik (the bossy one), Gordon (the messy one) and Waffle (the goofy one) were owned by elderly and very wealthy eccentric Mrs. Edna Cramdilly. Upon the old lady's death, the three cats inherited her vast fortune and her magnificent mansion. The comedy was precipitated by the protagonists' silly behavior upon finding themselves filthy rich, and by the efforts of faithful family butler Hovis to curb their enthusiasm. Other characters included next-door-neighbor Kimberly, an 8-year-old human girl for whom Waffle carried a torch; and a growling "monster truck" named Gear. Boasting two short segments per episode, Catscratch premiered July 9, 2005, on Nickelodeon. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Three preteen boys find themselves playing cat-and-mouse with a group of gangsters in this lightweight thriller for the family. It's a hot summer day, and three kids (Nick Whitaker, James Laub, and Robbi Merrill) are having fun at a hotel swimming pool when they hear the ring of a cellular phone. No one is picking it up, so one of the boys decides to answer it. The voice on the other end says he's a guest at the hotel who left his phone by the pool, and he'll give the boy five dollars to bring it to his room. The boy arrives at the room and before he can knock on the door, he hears a gunshot from inside the suite and runs away. The boy and his pals soon discover that there's an incriminating message stored inside the cell phone's voice mail system, and that a number of ne'er-do-wells will stop at anything to get it. The boys then set out to crack the code while trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Music and comedy share the stage in this performance film, which records a four-night variety show presented in 1987 as a benefit for the human rights organization Amnesty International. A handful of top British comedians were on hand for the revue, including Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie, Lenny Henry, Ben Elton and Phil Cool, with special appearances by John Cleese of Monty Python and the puppet troupe Spitting Image. (American comic Emo Phillips also performs his standup act.) Several leading musical stars of the day also contributed their talents to the event, including Peter Gabriel, Duran Duran, Kate Bush with David Gilmour, Lou Reed, Jackson Browne with Paul Brady, Mark Knopfler with Chet Atkins, Bob Geldoff, Youssou N'Dour and Nik Kershaw. As the title suggests, The Secret Policeman's Third Ball was preceded by two other Amnesty International benefit shows coordinated by John Cleese, with several more to follow. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Would you like some blood on that popcorn? Actually there is probably enough blood flowing through this low-budget direct to video horror outing to satisfy any cravings. The tale centers on an abandoned theater that is said to be haunted by the mad spirit of its former manager. According to local legend, the manager lost his mind one night, killed an employee and then started a fire. It remained empty until a theater chain purchased it. As an added bonus, unknown sponsors have offered a small fortune to be paid to anyone who is brave enough to open a business there. The new owner hires local kids to clean up the joint in time for the grand opening. Unfortunately, whatever evil took over the theater still remains and many people begin to die. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Al Pacino stars as Tony Montana, an exiled Cuban criminal who goes to work for Miami drug lord Robert Loggia. Montana rises to the top of Florida's crime chain, appropriating Loggia's cokehead mistress (Michelle Pfeiffer) in the process. Howard Hawks' "X Marks the Spot" motif in depicting the story line's many murders is dispensed with in the 1983 Scarface; instead, we are inundated with blood by the bucketful, especially in the now-infamous buzz saw scene. One carry-over from the original Scarface is Tony Montana's incestuous yearnings for his sister Gina (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio). The screenplay for the 1983 Scarface was written by Oliver Stone. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Escaping from her childhood life of poverty and abuse on the farm, in the 1930s, Polly Franklin (Pamela Sue Martin) sets her sights on Hollywood as the promised land and leaves home. However, she doesn't get that far - she lands in Chicago instead. Taking the low-paying jobs which are available to her, she quickly finds herself in a situation which is as oppressive as anything she knew at home. Despite her best efforts to keep her head above water, she soon winds up in prison. The best situation in her life comes afterwards, when she becomes a prostitute in a whorehouse run by Anna Sage (Louise Fletcher). However, even this doesn't last, as the police close down the house during a "decency crusade." Back on the streets once again, she meets a wonderful man (Robert Conrad) who claims to be working for the Board of Trade. She tells Anna (who is still her friend) about this new love in her life, and Anna realizes that he must be America's Most Wanted Man, the bank robber John Dillinger. Anna, in danger of being deported, arranges for the police to corner Dillinger and kill him while in Anna and Polly's company. In the ensuing publicity, everyone makes it look as though Polly was Dillinger's betrayer, and her life becomes even more miserable than it was before. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
