This made-for-TV drama, produced for the acclaimed anthology series Hallmark Hall of Fame, follows four orphans journeying from New York to the American West during the great migration of the 19th century. En route, the four boys find an abandoned baby, whom they adopt and raise as their own. As the girl, whom they name Mary Rose (Jennifer Garner), grows up, she begins to chafe under the authority of Adam (Jeffrey D. Sams), Douglas (Zak Orth), Travis (Tristan Tait), and Cole (Justin Chambers), who are at once brothers and surrogate parents to her. The conflicts come to a head and Mary decides to go to New York, in hopes of finding the parents who gave her up years before. A single mother and her difficult son find family life isn't necessarily all it's cracked up to be in this drama adapted from writer and professor Tobias Wolff's 1989 memoir of the same name. Nomadic, flaky Caroline (Ellen Barkin) just wants to settle down in one place, find a decent guy, and provide a better home for her handful of a son, Toby (Leonardo DiCaprio). When she moves to Seattle and meets the respectful, respectable Dwight Hansen (Robert DeNiro), she thinks she's got it made. Toby, however, feels differently after spending a few months with Dwight and his children and away from Caroline. The boy's stepfather-to-be seems to want to mold Toby into a better person, but to do so he emotionally, verbally, and physically abuses the kid. The marriage proceeds, and soon Caroline, too, recognizes Dwight's need to dominate everyone around him. She sticks with it, though, convinced it's the best thing for her son, and several years of dysfunction ensue. During this time, Tobias befriends another misfit, the possibly homosexual young Jonah (Arthur Gayle), while continuing to chafe under the yoke of his repressive stepfather. This Boy's Life provided the first lead role for future superstar DiCaprio. Guilty Until Proven Innocent is a TV-movie dramatization of a an actual miscarriage of justice. Young Bobby McLaughlin (Brendan Fraser) is accused of murder when a teenager is killed during a Brooklyn drug deal. The arresting cop knows that Bobby didn't do it, but is so eager for a conviction in this otherwise unsolvable crime that he strongarms an eyewitness into fingering Bobby. The boy's foster father Martin Sheen is assured by the defense attorney that the truth will out in court. When Bobby is convicted, Sheen continues through legal channels to secure the boy's release, confident that someone will be willing to open their eyes to the facts. But despite common knowledge that he is innocent, Bobby languishes for years in prison. Featured in the cast of Guilty Until Proven Innocent is Martin Sheen's daughter Renee Estevez. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The made-for-TV Earth Angel stars Cathy Bodewell as Angela, a prom queen who dies in 1962. Unfortunately, Angela has not always lived up to her name, and her entry into Heaven is held up indefinitely. She is given a chance to redeem herself by returning to earth in 1990, where she is to successfully complete an important mission. Thing of it is, she has no idea what her mission is-though she suspects it has something to do with romance. Clearly intended as a hybrid of Ghost and Peggy Sue Got Married, Earth Angel was first telecast March 4, 1991. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
