Dubbed "the Queen of B-movies," Julie Strain has established herself as the reigning monarch of a rarefied kingdom whose subjects include chainsaw-wielding lesbian hookers, virgin-sacrificing sorceresses, 6'7" dominatrixes, Satanic cops, and horny vampires. Standing a proud 6'1" and packing more silicon than the Dupont plant, Strain has starred in over 80 films, most of which have gone straight to video and into the hearts and hormones of remote control-toting men everywhere.Hailing from Concord, California, where she was born February 18, 1962, Strain had a lower-income, middle-American upbringing. Her life changed drastically when, at the age of 11, she was kicked in the head by a horse and suffered total amnesia as a result. After spending many years reconstructing her identity from scratch and enduring an unsatisfying marriage, Strain decided to head for Hollywood at the ripe old age of 28. Although she initially encountered extreme poverty, perseverance and a willingness to do just about anything allowed the aspiring actress to prevail, and five years later she had starred in a dizzying number of films and videos with names like Witchcraft 4: Virgin Heart and Bimbo Movie Bash, had been named Penthouse magazine's 1993 "Pet of the Year," and had seen her likeness reproduced on everything from calendars to coffee mugs.
Although Strain has stuck largely to the B-movie realm, she has made the occasional foray into mainstream film, appearing in such features as Kuffs (1992), Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994), and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), the last of which billed her simply as "Annihilator Girl." ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, All Movie Guide
Chuck Cirino, who served as score composer on such B-movies as Bikini Hoe-Down and The Bare Wench Project, made his feature directorial debut with this softcore sci-fi flick starring former Penthouse Pet Shauna O'Brien. The film tells the story of an evil alien who deprives earthlings of their libidos and plans to destroy the entire planet, all for an intergalactic reality show. Lenny (Tom Sizemore) is the kind of man who simply cannot get through the day without messing up, or suffering some amazing piece of bad luck. As a consequence, he has lost every one of the jobs his uncle has set him up with. That's how he loses his job as a gas station attendant: he leaves the place to ferry Eloise, a particularly good-looking girl, to a job interview. She looks like a good thing for him though, and they move in together, despite a lack of funds. Soon, he even loses his job at a porno flick, when that gets raided by the police. Oddly, he is almost insanely jealous of Eloise's former boyfriends. The third entry in the popular Beverly Hills Cop series finds Detroit cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) returning yet again to Southern California, this time on the trail of two car thieves turned murderers. As he teams up again with L.A. cop Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), Foley's investigation leads him to Wonder World, a theme park that is also the front for a major counterfeiting ring. More action and less wit are the trademarks of this film, which features Murphy dishing out his usual wisecracks, but with less flair and freshness than in the original film. A popular television lifeguard show faces cancellation when the crew is forced to find a new director on short notice in this sexy satire filled with skimpy bikinis and lots of fun in the sun. Thanks to a healthy display of skin and a cast that includes some chiseled hunks and lovely lifeguards, "Bikini Squad" draws some of the highest ratings on television. After the original director walks and a female is brought in to finish the season, she finds that sticking to the shooting schedule is harder than it appears when you're dealing with a crew whose collective IQ is that of a bag of beach balls. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Jean-Claude Van Damme proves that two cracked heads are better than one in Double Impact. Van Damme plays twins Chad and Alex, who were separated at birth when their parents were brutally murdered by members of a Hong Kong criminal cartel. Incredibly both Chad and Alex have grown up to become world-class martial arts experts. Chad is a snobbish Californian karate instructor, while Alex is a cigar-smoking smuggler in Hong Kong. The two are brought back together by the family bodyguard Frank Avery (Geoffrey Lewis) to team up to avenge their parents' murder. This futuristic animated adventure is based on the graphic novel The Melting Pot, created by noted comic artists Kevin Eastman, Simon Brisley, and Eric Talbot and published by the creators of the well-known graphics magazine Heavy Metal. In a distant universe, the acronym F.A.K.K. (Federation Assigned Ketogenic Killzone) is used to designate places of extreme danger to all life forms. In a bid to keep out unwelcome visitors, the quiet civilization of Eden has designated itself as F.A.K.K., level two. However, a lunatic named Tyler (voice of Michael Ironside) invades Eden, and when he discovers Eden's secrets -- life-preserving if respected, deadly when abused -- he lays waste to the civilization, leaving behind only a female warrior named Julie (voice of Julie Strain). Julie sets out to find Tyler, determined to see the secrets of Eden returned to safety and eager to take her revenge for the slaughter of her people. Unlike the 1981 film Heavy Metal, Heavy Metal 2000 tells one long story rather than several shorter ones; in keeping with the first movie, it does features a soundtrack by a number of noted rock bands, including Monster Magnet, Pantera, Days of the New, Insane Clown Posse, System of a Down, Coal Chamber, and others. Another made-for-cable horror story from the "Creature Features" series of in-name-only remakes of classic American International Pictures scare flicks, How to Make a Monster concerns a new video game, "Evil-ution," which is being designed by a top virtual reality firm headed by Faye Clayton (Colleen Camp). Clayton is determined "Evil-ution" will be the most terrifying video game ever, and so far her programmers are right on track, except for one thing -- the bad-guy character in the game looks simply ridiculous. Drummond (Steven Culp) is ordered to come up with a better monster for the game, so he adds Laura Wheeler (Clea Duvall), a promising new programmer, to the staff to work alongside veteran designers Bug (Jason Marsden), Hardcore (Tyler Mane), and Sol (Karim Prince). The foursome are given a special incentive program: whoever thinks up the right scary monster for the game will get a bonus of one million dollars. However, a power surge during a powerful lightning storm has an unexpected effect on the group's work and a motion-capture suit that was hooked into the computer network suddenly comes to life, becoming the dangerous and bloodthirsty monster the designers were trying to conjure. Steven Seagal plays a good if troubled man living in a corrupt world (sound familiar yet?) in this action drama. Gino Felino (Seagal) is a cop who grew up in a tough Brooklyn neighborhood, and while many of his old friends now live on the other side of the law, he retains a fierce loyalty to the community. When his partner, a friend since childhood, is murdered -- in broad daylight, and in clear view of his wife and children -- Gino is assigned to investigate, and he soon learns that the shooter was Richie Madano (William Forsythe), his life-long nemesis and now a low-level wise guy with an addiction to crack. Gino swings into action to bring Richie to justice, though he discovers that he's not the first in line -- the Don who oversees Richie's crew is appalled by this crime, and Gino has to bring Richie in before the Mafia can put a bullet in his head. A commendably gruesome title sequence gets this slasher sequel off on the right foot, and Bobby Ray Shafer returns as Satanist killer-cop Joe Vickers, this time chasing strippers and businessmen through an office building during an after-work bachelor party. Director Adam Rifkin (under the pseudonym "Rif Coogan") keeps the tension level high and sets up some nicely-staged sequences, making up for the less-than-stellar acting.
