Jim (James Garner) hires on as bodyguard for novelist Anne Louise Clement, whose politically incorrect "perfect-wife" bestseller has incurred the wrath of several militant feminists. When Anne claims that she's been threatened with death, Jim thinks she's pulling a publicity stunt--until her agent Marty Bach (Tasha Martel) turns up murdered. In his efforts to save Anne's life, our hero is stymied by his client's tendency to stretch the truth...and what exactly is Anne's "doting" husband Bud Clement (Arthur Roberts) up to at the moment? ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The cheerleading team at Aloha High are popular with their fellow students (except for a couple of stuck-up rich girls), but they're a major cause of the school's lecherous reputation for underage sex and drug abuse. The fun-loving gals spike the lunchroom spaghetti sauce with a concoction of pot, pills, and powders, hold wild orgies in the boys' locker room, and never bother to attend their classes. The school board considers a merger with Aloha's biggest rivals, the vocational school Lincoln High, but the cheerleaders refuse to mix with the low-class juvenile delinquents that go there. A new principal, ex-Marine Hall Walker (Norman Thomas Marshall), might whip the school into shape, but it'll mean forcing the cheerleaders out of the squad and back into the classroom. Though the girls prove their importance to Aloha spirit at the crucial moment of a big basketball game, it turns out that more sinister forces are at work when the school is blown up and the principal is kidnapped. It's up to the cheerleaders to save the day and unravel a conspiracy to steal Aloha High's land for a shopping mall. Carl Ballantine, David Hasselhoff, and genre vet Rainbeaux Smith appear in this energetic sex comedy. ~ Fred Beldin, All Movie Guide

James Garner first assumed the bethumped mantle of Private Investigator Jim Rockford on March 27, 1974. The original Rockford Files TV movie, like the long running series that followed, starred Garner as an ex-con who only takes cases that the people have been unable to solve. Future Bionic Woman Lindsay Wagner is the person retaining Rockford's service in this first adventure. She wishes Jim to investigate the death of her father, a skid-row derelict whose demise the police have written off as natural causes. Robert Donley plays Jim Rockford's father in the inaugural Rockford Files, a role that was filled by Noah Beery Jr. in the series proper. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A troubled young man named Robert Ceilbleu (Mario Alcaide) hires Paladin (Richard Boone) to protect his father, ill-mannered Indian scout William Ceilbleu (Lon Chaney Jr.) from a deranged Comanche warrior named Hotanian. Before long, Paladin finds that his mission isn't as cut-and-dried as it seems: Robert Ceilbleu and Hotanian turn out to be one and the same! Curiously, this episode makes reference to three other Have Gun--Will Travel installments, including "Gold and Brimstone"--which hadn't even aired when "The Scorched Feather" was first telecast in February of 1959. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This fourth film version of the Mary Roberts Rinehart-Avery Hopwood stage chestnut The Bat is so old-fashioned in its execution that one might suspect it was intended as "camp" (though that phrase wasn't in common usage in 1959). Agnes Moorehead plays mystery novelist Cornelia Van Gorder, whose remote mansion is the scene for all sorts of diabolical goings-on. The "maguffin" is a million dollars' worth of securities, hidden away somewhere in the huge and foreboding estate. Vincent Price is seen committing a murder early on-but he's not the film's principal villain. Others in the cast include Gavin Gordon as an overly diligent detective, and former Our Gang star Darla Hood as a murder victim. The Bat was adapted for the screen by its director Crane Wilbur, himself a prolific "old dark house" scenarist and playright. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
