When a troupe of sexy gymnasts are kidnapped and taken to the title island by a vengeful drug cartel, it's up to commando leader Mike McBride (Hulk Hogan) to rescue them. The excitement in this fast-paced actioner begins when McBride and the Navy SEALS he commands are assigned to capture a drug lord in his country. During the operation, one of McBride's men betrays him and McBride is nearly killed. Still, he, fellow SEAL Leroy (Carl Weathers) and buxom drug-enforcement officer Ashley (Shannon Tweed) manage to complete their mission. McBride and company then set off for vengeance against the traitor, who in turn retaliates by kidnapping a team of gymnasts and taking them to his impregnable lair on a remote Caribbean island. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

This thriller is adapted from the 1995 novel by James Patterson about a serial killer prowling a Southern university. Washington, D.C., forensic psychologist Dr. Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) is also a best-selling author. After his niece Naomi (Gina Ravera) is reported missing, he heads his Porsche for Durham, North Carolina, where eight young women have been reported missing. Bodies are found by local policemen (Cary Elwes and Alex McArthur), along with the killer's signature, "Casanova." Casanova is a "collector" of strong-willed women who are forced to submit to his demands. Soon, local doctor Kate McTiernan (Ashley Judd) is abducted from her home and taken to a dungeon -- where other women are imprisoned in underground chambers. After McTiernan succeeds in escaping, she joins Cross and other detectives in the search for Casanova -- a trail that leads to Los Angeles, where similar crimes are being committed by someone known as "The Gentleman Caller." In this martial arts actioner, a karate teacher who has committed his life to improving the lives and futures of inner-city kids by using martial arts to teach self-discipline and respect finds his world torn apart when Hatsushita (Denis Agana), a powerful local crime lord, begins trying to recruit him to get involved in his crooked fight. When Niko, the teacher, does not respond to Hatsushita's first request, the gangster resorts to a terrible act of violence against the instructor's favorite student. Thus persuaded, Niko goes to work for Hatsushita. Though a gifted teacher, Niko is at first outmatched by the gangster's more experienced thugs, especially Takamura, the one who murdered Niko's student. Wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper is Back in Action in this likeable testosterone-driven adventure. Piper plays a hard-bitten L.A. detective, whose partner is murdered by drug dealers. To bring the villains to heel, the detective teams up with a martial-arts whiz (Billy Blanks), whose sister has fallen in with the drug lords. After the usual "I don't like you and you don't like me" palaver, Piper and Blanks combine their considerable self-defense skills to kick a lot of LaLa-land butt. This sci-fi actioner tells a martial artsy version of a split society during the 21st century. The upperclasses dwell in extravagant shelters below the surface of the earth--which was destroyed by a damaged ozone layer. The surface, of course, is where the poor have been left to fend for themselves. To ensure the safety of those underground, the Controller employs a department of Tracker/Communicators (or T.C.s) to function as security guards/cops. Now that the earth has finally repaired itself, the "bosses" of the shelters plan to get rid of inhabitants on the surface with a doomsday weapon so they can return to the coveted domain. After his partner Zoey (TC200X) is killed and cyberly resurrected as an android, Jason Storm (TC2000) must use his karate expertise to battle the Controller's gangs, both from the surface and the shelters, while he attempts to save the world from nuclear disaster. ~ Kristie Hassen, All Movie Guide
In this Canadian martial-arts actioner, the DEA becomes desperate to bring dreaded druglord Mr. Li to justice and so teams up vice-detective Michael Reed with master-martial-artist Tyler Wilson to stop the crook. Before they can, they are taught the deadly "Eagle Claw" technique from Master Pan. The duo then enter Mr. Li's kickboxing contest which features Li's gigantic bodyguard Khan. Later the crooks and the heroes converge at Li's glittering nightclub, which is managed by his blonde-bombshell girl friend who is actually an undercover agent who ends up falling in love with Reed. Producer Joel Silver, director Tony Scott, and screenwriters Shane Black and Greg Hicks team up for this gridiron-set action thriller. Bruce Willis stars as Joe Hallenbeck, who was once a top-of-the-line Secret Service agent but has since become an alcoholic, flea-bag detective. While performing the chores of a two-bit shamus, he discovers his wife Sarah (Chelsea Field) is having an affair with his best friend. Joe is hired to protect Cory (Halle Berry), a stripper who has been getting death threats; Joe begins to sober up when Cory is blown to smithereens. Cory's boyfriend, Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans), was at one time a NFL football quarterback, but was thrown out of the game for gambling and addiction to Demerol. Smelling something fishy, Joe and Jimmy begin to investigate further and discover layers of corruption in professional football circles, leading up to Sheldon Marcone (Noble Willingham), a corrupt team owner who wants to pay off legislators to legalize gambling on pro football games. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

This is a dull, by-the-book actioner whose only merit is a good performance by actress Akosua Busia, later nominated for an Academy Award for her work in The Color Purple. When Karen, the daughter of a well-heeled businessman (Troy Donahue) has been swallowed up by a religious cult, her father hires ex-cop Joe Wong (Leo Fong) to bring her back safe and sound. Before tackling this assignment, Wong spends a lot of time in a Darwinian process of natural selection, weeding out the tough guys who will go in with him to rescue Karen.
