UPA alumnus Abe Levitow was one of the executive producers for this captivating animated holiday special, based on Johnny Hart's comic strip B.C.. While making a tasty tureen of rock soup for her caveman companions, Fat Broad declares that there's only one way to flavor the soup--and that's to catch a turkey. Well and good, but no one's ever seen a turkey--except the turkey himself, a neurotic but clever critter. As cave dwellers Wiley, Peter, Thor and the rest drive themselves crazy hunting for the elusive bird, B.C. phlegmatically narrates the tale in a voice reminiscent of Jack Benny (courtesy of veteran voiceover specialist Daws Butler. In this remake of Johnny Dark (1954) an ex-GI and college dropout would rather play with cars than anything else until he meets the lovely Eady with whom he falls passionately in love. They get engaged and go to San Francisco where he begins working on building a prototype car for a millionaire. When the arrogant young man ignores the millionaire's advice and destroys the car, he is immediately fired. The young man, determined to make his engine work, manages to scare up enough cash to get his engine back from the millionaire. He then goes on to enter the Tri-State Endurance Race. After it is all over, the young fellow finds that he has become a serious young man. He then marries his girl, and goes back to college. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

This fantasy-comedy is directed by Don Taylor whose specialty is horror and action flics, and clearly not talking ducks and children's tales. Beetle McKay (Mickey Rooney) and Admiral John Paul Jones (Buddy Hackett) are two wacky sailors who make friends with a talking duck, a verbose avian that possesses a secret formula. It seems the formula is needed by the Navy satellite program and so the talky mallard is worth quite a bit. But in the meantime, the duck is hooked on booze and is a failure at taking to the water or even sounding like a normal duck. So the sailors have their work cut out for them as the deadline for launching the satellite approaches. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
