A small gathering on the Pyrenees turns into a terrifying ordeal as a group of old friends convene for a long-overdue reunion, and the entire world begins disappearing all around them in director Jorge Torregrossa's meditative apocalyptic thriller. As the group enjoys a hearty dinner and reflects on old times by the light of the campfire, the topic turns to their old friend, nicknamed The Prophet, and the air grows thick with tension. Later, when the power goes out and the cars won't start, he friends begin to fear that The Prophet may be taking his revenge for a youthful joke that yielded devastating repercussions. When the dawn comes and the one of the group vanishes without a trace, however, the mood among the group turns decidedly grim. With their cell phones dead and contact the outside world completely cut off, they set out to seek help and make a series of disturbing discoveries that seem to indicate the world, as they once knew it, has ended. ~ Rovi

A mysterious beast stalks innocent children in this thriller from Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. In the 1980s, Juan (Izan Corchero) is a young boy with an active imagination and a talent for writing stories. However, he is being terrorized by a strange creature that lurks in his room late at night and doesn't seem to have a face. Juan's mother Luisa (Pilar Lopez de Ayala) is skeptical at first, but comes to believe demonic forces are at work and asks a local priest (Daniel Bruehl) to chase the spirits out. However, it soon becomes obvious Satan is not the one to blame for the horrible visits. Three decades later, John (Clive Owen) and Susanna (Carice van Houten) are the parents of Mia (Ella Purnell), a 13-year-old girl. John is fiercely protective of his daughter, and when she's attacked in her room late one night, he's determined to find whoever or whatever is responsible. As it happens, Mia is being visited by Hollowface, a monster similar to the one who was stalking Juan, and he's just as difficult to frighten away. A woman is trying to unravel a mystery that she literally can no longer see in this thriller from Spanish filmmaker Guillem Morales. Julia (Belén Rueda) and her sister, Sara, have both inherited a medical condition that is slowly robbing them of their eyesight, with stress severely aggravating the condition. When Julia gets the news that Sara has died, she has a hard time believing the police report that she committed suicide, and she and her husband, Isaac (Lluís Homar), begin looking into the matter. As Julia examines the particulars of Sara's death, she begins to suspect the actions of Sara's neighbor Blasco (Boris Ruiz), his daughter, Lia (Andrea Hermosa), and an aged woman named Soledad (Julia Gutiérrez Caba). As Julia becomes more convinced that Sara's neighbors were involved in her death, unpleasant events begin happening all around her, and as she comes closer to unraveling the knots that have tied up Sara's death, Julia inches closer to total blindness. A hopelessly lovesick young man finds himself repeatedly cast into a platonic role vis-à-vis the girl of his dreams, in this contemporary romantic comedy from Spain. Lanky and awkward teen Chema (Gorka Otxoa) still struggles to come to terms with a recent break-up from Elisa (Barbara Santa Cruz). Evenings now consist of systematically combing the town with best pal Ruben (Julian Lopez) to try to find an adequate replacement. She arrives -- or so Chema thinks -- in the form of the gorgeous Argentine waif Claudia (Sabrina Garciarena), an aspiring hairstylist who asks Chema to let her try out her craft on him (when she suggests that they re-do his hair in the style of Enrique Bunbury -- a singer whom he detests -- he unflinchingly agrees). Unfortunately, viewing Chema as a boyfriend or a lover is the furthest thing from Claudia's mind, and she perpetually refers to him as a friend, treating him with tremendous insensitivity. Meanwhile, at Chema's house, his paternal uncle Jaime (Oscar Ladoire) repeatedly turns up, nurturing feelings for Chema's single mother, Gloria (Kiti Manver), and determines to win the woman's heart. Director and co-screenwriter Borja Cobeaga packs the film with dozens of gags from first frame to last, and renders his film unique by resisting crude and raunchy humor throughout, and instead opting for family-friendly wit. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
