Writer/director Julie Delpy follows-up her 2007 comedy 2 Days in Paris with this tale of a happy couple who find their comfortable relationship put to the test during a tumultuous family visit. Marion (Delpy) and Mingus (Chris Rock) both come from failed relationships. But by bringing their children together, they've managed to form a small yet happy family. Tensions in their household soon begin to spike, however, when Marion's jovial father (Albert Delpy -- the director's real-life father) shows up on their doorstep with his randy daughter and her peculiar boyfriend in tow. Tilda Swinton stars in director Erick Zonca's drama about a 40-year-old alcoholic who, in a rare moment of sobriety, sees where her life is headed and makes one last-ditch attempt to steer herself away from the disastrous path that she has been locked on for as far back as she can remember. Julia may be manipulative, notoriously untrustworthy, and completely incapable of uttering any word that isn't an outright lie, but somehow -- perhaps due to sheer charisma -- this statuesque deceiver has always managed to get by. But Julia has been hardened by too many vodkas and too many one-night stands, and lately the lonely life of drifting from job to job in her 1979 Chrysler New Yorker has left her wanting something more. While her old boyfriend Mitch occasionally tries to break through Julia's haze, lately she has surrendered herself to the fact that she is simply one of life's losers. His son kidnapped by the most notorious drug dealer in the city, a shady cop ventures into a posh nightclub on a dangerous rescue mission, and finds himself facing off against ruthless gangsters and fellow policemen alike. Vincent (Tomer Sisley) is a Paris cop who may be just as shady as the criminals he has spent his whole career chasing. Shortly after teaming with another detective to rob a pair of drug couriers in a daring early morning stick-up, Vincent learns that the cocaine in his possession belongs to Jose Marciano (Serge Riaboukine), the owner of a prominent local nightclub, and a drug dealer who will stop at nothing to get his product back. Vincent then finds out that Marciano has kidnapped his son and the only way to get him back is to return the goods, so the devastated cop makes his way to the club fully prepared to make the trade. Just as the deal is about to go down, however, an unexpected complication arises, and the cocaine disappears without a trace. With time running out and his son in mortal danger, Vincent searches frantically for the boy, as well as a means of outrunning the hail of gunfire that's headed their way. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
