In Bob's absence, Emily agrees to pose as Mr. Carlin's wife at a class reunion. If Emily feels at all flattered by Carlin's request, she certainly changes her mind at the reunion itself: Carlin has taken a "wife" solely to arouse the jealousy of a former classmate named Peggy Ann (Karen Ericson), who didn't even know he was alive during their school years. Also in the cast are Michael Alldredge as Burt, Carole Shelyne Barry as Bonnie, and Woody Skaggs as Jack. Written by Laura Levine, "Emily Carlin, Emily Carlin" was one of several sixth-season episodes in which Bob Newhart was conspicuous by his absence; the program first aired on February 4, 1978. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This low-key (and low-budget) occult tale begins in upstate New York, where a young girl is accidentally run down by a jeep driven by an aloof, careless city slicker (J.J. Barry). This careless injustice provokes the girl's grandfather to summon his mystical powers and place a death curse on the young man. Desperate to stave off the dire consequences of the hex, Barry seeks the counsel of a local psychic medium, (Kim Hunter), but her powers are no match for the hand of fate. This rather sluggish supernatural drama plays like a standard movie-of-the-week, and might have benefited from a touch more atmosphere. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

This episode was originally scheduled to air on November 16, 1971. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
In a variation of Evan Hunter's famous novel King's Ransom (previously filmed by no less than Akira Kurosawa), outlaws Thorn and Bryan Hazard (Tom Skerritt, Fabian Forte) kidnap a girl whom they believe to be wealthy young Laura Singer (Susannah Darrow). Instead, they have abducted Karen Oliver (Sherry Boucher), the daughter of poverty-stricken Harry Oliver (Woodrow Parfrey). Will Oliver lose everything he owns trying to raise the $100,000 ransom, or will Laura's millionaire father Owen Singer (John Lasell) come through in a pinch? ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
A false summons leads the Enterprise into an ambush in this episode of the original Star Trek television series. When Captain Kirk discovers the ambush, he orders a pursuit of the hostile alien battleship; during the ensuing battle, both ships cross the borders of the Metrons, an extremely powerful alien race. The Metrons take control of both vessels, and order the commanders of each ship to meet in physical, hand-to-hand combat. Soon, Kirk finds himself at the center of the Metrons' arena, facing his adversary, a Gorn -- an immensely strong, reptilian creature. The commanders are forced to do battle, with the prize being the destruction of the loser's starship. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide
