Director Tim Hunter and co-screenwriter James Crumley go back to the basics for this rough and tumble western that proves the ladies can shoot just as straight as the men. The deadliest gang in the west has been captured and strung up. Now the law is desperate to find out where the recently departed had hidden their substantial plunder, and they're dead sure that the men's widows have the answer to that question. With the corrupt sheriff (Patrick Bergin) closing in on one side, a homicidal preacher (James Gammon) fast gaining ground on the other, and scores of hostile Indians, Pinkerton agents, and even a few gruff ghosts to contend with in between, these three desperate women (Judith Bernett, Suzanne Andrews, and Lissa Negrin) will have to keep on their toes if they have any hope of living to find the treasure and escape to freedom. The Indians are anxious to have the boy among them because he fulfills the prescient dreams of one of the elders, Anuba (Patricia Van Ingen); Nick is just happy to have the adventure. In this retelling of Nathaniel Hawthorne's tale, Young Goodman Brown (Tom Shell) is out in the woods one day when he encounters the Devil (John P. Ryan) himself, along with some members of his retinue, who offers him a lot of attractive powers over the dullards of his Puritan town. Except for having lots of stilted language in the dialog, reviewers found it difficult to believe that this film's story had anything to do with the one it is allegedly based on. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

No sooner did Jurassic Park score at the box office than the imitations began turning up like bad pennies. The redoubtable Fred Olen Ray, once more delivering a bankable project at the least possible cost, was responsible for Dinosaur Island. Typical of the Ray ouevre is the presence of several top-heavy young ladies, whose costumes can be mercifully described as immodest. The dinosaurs are rubber novelty-shop creations that wouldn't convince a dim-witted duck, but they serve their purpose in forcing the females in the cast to jiggle past the camera in abject horror. Ross Hagen, a veteran of this sort of fare, heads the cast of Dinosaur Island, doing an excellent job of convincing us that the dialogue he's been given is actually worth reciting. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

"B"-sleaze auteur Fred Olen Ray pounded out this vampire parody, which stars career nerd Eddie Deezen as an affable dork and wannabe Hollywood hot-shot who discovers that a high-market bordello -- overseen by slinky Madam Cassandra (Britt Ekland) -- is actually a den of lascivious vampire bimbos from hell. Though his companions are easily lured by the ladies' deadly charms, Deezen takes a definite liking to his self-proclaimed title of Vampire Hunter, even going as far as to sew a crucifix into his skivvies. Laughing yet? This is actually one of Ray's more witty efforts -- with a manic pace, some clever in-jokes, copious amounts of skin, and a throwaway attitude that makes the relentless silliness a bit more palatable... although Deezen's hyperkinetic mugging may be more than some viewers can endure. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

A group of crazed young neo-Nazi vigilantes try to take over California's beaches in a campy apocalyptic saga that takes place after a devastating earthquake wipes out half of the Golden State's population. A rival gang of surfers is challenging the Surf Nazis' turf, and the beaches turn into battlefields. One of the Nazi's leaders is named Adolph, and he tries to make love to his girlfriend on the sands but is rebuffed. The anti-Nazi fighters are led by an overweight surf gangster named Leroy's Mama who uses hand grenades to dispatch the Surf Nazis one at a time. The film is a cult classic of bad acting and poorly staged special effects. It's a product of Troma Studios, which specializes in such intentionally tasteless and cheap low-budget films aimed at the collegiate market. ~ Michael Betzold, All Movie Guide
