Disney's Greyfriars Bobby is a remake of A Challenge to Lassie; both are based on the same novel by Eleanor Atkinson, and both feature Donald Crisp in a major role. A true story, set in Edinburgh around 1875, the Disney version stars Alex McKenzie as the shepherd Old Jock, the owner of a loyal Skye terrier named Bobby. When Jock dies of "old age, exposure, and starvation," and is buried in the Edinburgh cemetery known as Greyfriars Kirk, Bobby spends his days playing with street children, begging for scraps, and evading the police constables, but by night he sleeps on his late master's gravesite and refuses to leave, despite graveyard caretaker John Brown's (Crisp) efforts to chase Bobby away. Slowly but surely, the taciturn Brown comes to love the steadfast dog, which brings him into conflict with stiff-necked Constable MacLean (Donald MacRae), who intends to "arrest" Bobby if Brown doesn't pay the minimal license fee. Standing on principle, Brown refuses, but a group of local children raise the necessary funds, setting the stage for a heartwarmingly Disneyesque finale. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Gorgo is an attempt to make a Japanese-style "giant reptile" flick in an English setting. The story begins when underwater volcanic activity in the Irish Sea brings forth a 65-foot monster called Gorgo. Enterprising Joe (Bill Travers) and Sam (William Sylvester) capture the beast and transport it to London, where Gorgo is put on display as a seaside carnival attraction. This proves to be a major mistake when Gorgo's even larger mother lumbers to the surface in search of her cute li'l baby. In short order, London is trampled and trashed. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Joe is played by Leslie Randall in this lean British programmer. Working at a detergent company, Joe is ignored by his bosses and co-workers alike. But when the opportunity arises for Joe to become a hero, well, watch out! Motivating the plot is a bit of industrial espionage involving the theft of a secret detergent formula. A talented director (Charles Saunders) and cast cannot do very much with this weak story about an odd double deception. Two con-men, former Commander Binham-Ryley (Richard Murdoch) and former Major Rory McQuarry (William Kendall), are just out of prison for their dubious money-making schemes. They decide to hook up together to see how to bilk the next mark, when they meet a wealthy widow who obviously cannot see through them, and she hires them to run a factory for her. What the two men do not realize is that the widow needs two fall guys in her own shady, profit-making scheme. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Escaping from an insane asylum, Ellen Summers (Lana Morris) calls upon "Invisible Man" Peter Brady, claiming that she being held against her will by sinister forces. She further explains that her fiance George Wilson has been falsely convicted of murder and condemned to death. With only a few hours before the execution, Peter must deploy his invisibility to round up the miscreants who have misused Ellen and rescue Wilson from the hangman's noose--assuming, of course, that the girl is telling the truth. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A persuasive ad man cons a British TV makeup artist to slip in a promotion for Bonko Detergent during a show in this comedy. The ploy is a success until the makeup man is fired. He and the ad man team up and create a pirate station that broadcasts their commercials into other shows. They soon find themselves in trouble when thieves, believing their roving broadcast van is filled with gold, steal the vehicle. The adman radios the police and the robbers are captured. This leads him to get a new job with the television network. The makeup man then interrupts the man's first show with his commercials. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

In this drama, a man becomes fixated on a doll belonging to his illegitimate son. The obsession begins after his lover gives the infant up for adoption. The man is angered by this and kills the mother. More trouble ensues when he loses the doll. He attempts to get it back and this eventually causes him to confess his crime. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

While running an experiment in his lab, young British scientist Peter Brady is exposed to a radition leak--and rendered invisible. At first he is excited about the phenomenon, believing he has stumbled upon a process that will benefit mankind. After a while, however, invisibility proves to be something of a "downer", especially since it appears that the process is irreversible. Brady's one chance to become visible again may rest with his old and trusted colleague Dr. Crompton (Michael Goodliffe)...who, unfortunately, has other ideas. In the original 1958 TV Guide listing for this debut episode of The Invisible Man, it is noted that "Also invisible on this series will be the name of the actor playing the title role--the producers won't release it." Well, the secret is out: Tim Turner provides the voice of Brady, while Johnny Scripps is behind the bandages as Brady's body. Kay Callard plays Joan Foster, the title role, in the British quickie Undercover Girl. She works in a nightclub that serves as the front for a dope ring. When a reporter is murdered, Joan agrees to help the reporter's brother (Paul Carter) bust up the criminal gang. Naturally, this means putting her own life on the line, but you knew that when you saw the title.
