Writer/director Wayne Kramer offers a glimpse into the aging Las Vegas casino world with the romantic drama The Cooler. Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy) is extremely unlucky at gambling, and he owes the Shangri-La casino over 100,000 dollars. He is so unlucky that he is hired as a "cooler," someone to gamble next to high rollers and give them some of his bad luck to stop them from winning. This arrangement works out for awhile, until Bernie has almost paid off his debt and meets cocktail waitress Natalie Belisario (Maria Bello). The two start to fall in love and Bernie's luck begins to change. However, the old-fashioned mob boss Shelly Kaplow (Alec Baldwin) isn't going to let Bernie go so easily. Meanwhile, Larry Sokolov (Ron Livingston) arrives on the scene to help update the business management of the old mobster-run casino. Also starring Joey Fatone and Paul Sorvino as lounge singers. The Cooler was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in the dramatic competition at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

This erotic thriller (which shares no thematic links to the first Friend of the Family, though they both star Shauna O'Brien) concerns Alex (Paul Michael Robinson), a new father who meets Linda (O'Brien) while on a business trip to New Orleans. When Linda's boyfriend storms out on her in the midst of dinner in a restaurant, Alex offers to front her the money to pay the check; one thing leads to another, and she ends up spending the night with him. Before long, Alex comes to see the error of his ways, and he returns home to his wife Maddy (Jenna Bodnar). However, Linda isn't about to give up on Alex so easily; when Maddy announces that she's hired a nanny to help watch the baby, Alex is shocked to discover that it's Linda, and now he has to figure out how to keep her at arm's length while keeping his secret from his wife. Directed by cult hero Fred Olen Ray, Friend of the Family II was also released under the title Innocence Betrayed. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In this provocative and scary supernatural thriller, a brides happy honeymoon aboard an Acapulco-bound yacht with her husband, two of his buddies from Vietnam and their girl friends, turns to terror when someone or something begins to kill them one by one. In the end, only she lives to tell the grisly tale via flashback.
