A small-time athlete is suddenly confronted by the real world in this thoughtful comedy drama from Canada. Rick (Keir Dullea) is the star player on a semi-pro hockey team in a small town on the Canadian prairie. While Rick has to hold down a job in a hardware store to pay his rent, his skills on the ice make him a local hero; he never has to pay for a beer or a meal if he doesn't want to, and he makes as much time as he wants with a number of women, though his loyal girlfriend Loretta (Elizabeth Ashley) is still convinced he'll settle down and marry her one day. To go along with his minor celebrity, Rick has constructed an outsized persona for himself, wearing a cowboy hat, carrying a pistol, and grooming himself in the model of Sheriff Matt Dillon from Gunsmoke. But Rick's world begins to fall apart when he first loses his job and then gets word that his team's owners can't afford to keep the franchise going. After the team's final game turns into an angry brawl and Rick is rejected by Joanna (Dayle Haddon), the college-age daughter of the team's manager, Rick takes a final stand in a foolish bid to prove himself. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Sandra talks the writer into helping her stop her husband from kidnapping a nuclear scientist and delivering him to the Chinese. Bernard Blier directs and stars in this routine spy saga. A vacationing doctor is caught in a web of international espionage after his chance meeting with a medical patient in Poland. He is soon followed by a concerned secret service agent (Bruno Cremer) who warns the unsuspecting doctor that his daughter could be in danger. The first season of I Dream of Jeannie kicks off with the now-famous episode (originally filmed in black and white) wherein the space capsule carrying astronaut Tony Nelson (Larry Hagman) crash-lands on a deserted island. As Tony surveys the surrounding area, he stumbles upon an ancient-looking bottle--out of which pops a gorgeous, harem-clad genie (Barbara Eden), who has been trapped inside the bottle for 2000 years (or 2500 years, who's counting). Gratefully, the beautiful "Jeannie" conjures up a navy helicopter to rescue Tony and deliver him back to his base in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Tony of course is certain that the entire incident was the result of his imagination--until he finds out that Jeannie has loyally followed him to his home, hoping to remain there permanently! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

He gives the idea his backing and support and winds up holding the bag for the crime as the others escape.
