True love for science fiction knows no borders, and now the people who brought us Trekkies return to travel the globe in hopes of finding the world's most dedicated Star Trek fan in this belated sequel to the 1997 cult documentary. Once again hosted by Star Trek: The Next Generation's Denise Crosby, Trekkies 2 features interviews with such dedicated fans as the English Trekkie who reconstructed his Leicestershire apartment to resemble the interior of the Starship Enterprise, numerous Filk (science fiction-oriented folk music) singers and Star Trek tribute bands, and also offers coverage of the first-ever Serbian Star Trek convention. Of course, a sequel wouldn't be a sequel without the return of a few fans from the original hit, and Trekkies 2 offers follow-up interviews with such memorable devotees as Gabriel Köerner and Whitewater juror Barbara Adams. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Writer-director Esther Bell spins this semi-autobiographical drama about a young punk learning to come to terms with her gay father. Set in 1988, South Carolinian teen Teri (Nika Feldman) plans a road trip to the Big Apple to sell her zine "Skid Marks," bringing her skate punk boyfriend Kevin (Arik Roper) and his buddy Skank (Preston Miller) along for the ride. Once in the city, their car gets swiped, forcing them to track down Teri's biological father Henry (George Crowley) -- who is recovering from both a gay bashing incident and the separation from his longtime lover (Fred Schneider of B-52s fame) who dumped him because of his closeted ways. Believing that her father abandoned her long ago, Teri harbors much resentment toward her dad and is loath to look him up. As the film progresses, she learns that the truth is much more complex. The good (if not fully evolved) citizens of Bedrock make their way to the big screen in this live-action adaptation of the popular animated series of the 1960s. Fred Flintstone (John Goodman) and his best friend Barney Rubble (Rick Moranis) work together at the Slate and Company Rock Quarry. When Fred loans Barney some money that allows him and his wife Betty (Rosie O'Donnell) to adopt a child, Barney is looking for a way to show his gratitude. Barney thinks he's found one when the executives at Slate and Company announce that they're giving all their employees intelligence tests to help determine future promotions. When Barney switches his high-scoring test with Fred's, his plan works -- but not quite the way he had hoped: Fred is deemed executive material and given a big promotion, complete with a sexy secretary (Halle Berry) who makes his wife Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins) jealous, while Barney is soon out of a job and can't pay his bills. Bill Hanna and Joseph Barbara, who created the original television series, make cameo appearances here; Elizabeth Taylor gives a fine comic performance as Wilma's nagging mother, and Harvey Korman provides the voice of the Dictabird. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

This Peter Maris action begins at New Mexico State Penitentiary, where a spew of toxic gas from the crash of a tanker truck leads to the evacuation of the prison by the warden (George Kennedy). In the ensuing confusion, anti-social cons Kuttner (Lee De Broux) and Patch (James Tolkan) kidnap prison psychologist Maria Slayton (Kim Delaney) and hit the road with a bus full of prisoners. The group first heads for Mexico but decides instead to take over the town of Sonora and hold its citizens as hostages. The National Guard sends in a state police lieutenant (Yaphet Kotto) and his tough-as-nails Lieutenant Colonel Johnson (Jan-Michael Vincent) to handle the situation. But the National Guard's ineffectual methods leave the situation more volatile than it was before. It is left to two citizens of Sonora -- sheriff Ike Slayton (Brad Davis) and his army pal Bill (Ken Foree) -- to take matters into their own hands and save the town from the kill-crazy prisoners. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide
