Doug Savant Movies
No stranger to emotionally and psychologically challenging roles, Doug Savant broke through the fear barrier that separates many actors from achieving their full onscreen potential. In the process, he tackled many characterizations somewhat removed from himself. These included a sociopathic rapist (in the 1995 TV movie Fight for Justice: The Nancy Cohn Story), a gay social worker (Matt Fielding on the prime-time soap opera Melrose Place), and -- most prominently -- a businessman-turned-stay at home dad (Tom Scavo, on the domestic black comedy Desperate Housewives). The latter, of course, required less of a stretch for Savant; it was perhaps ironic, then, that the Scavo characterization (opposite actress Felicity Huffman) reeled in Savant's largest audience and virtually turned him into a household name. Savant's resumé also includes brief appearances in such features as Secret Admirer (1985), Teen Wolf (1985), The Hanoi Hilton (1987), and Godzilla (1998). His second wife is actress Laura Leighton, whom he met on the set of Melrose. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie GuideNina's dead, and some are questioning the necessity of Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) shooting her. Chappelle (Paul Schulze), in particular, is worried about covering himself, as she was their only lead, but then Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) catches a financial transaction that eventually enables CTU to get a location for Amador (Greg Ellis). When an undercover officer on the scene is shot, Jack and Chase (James Badge Dale) barge into the club and capture Amador. Amador is too afraid of his client to talk, but he does mention that the man seems to know Jack. While Tony (Carlos Bernard) does some cross-referencing to come up with potential suspects, the team finds blueprints for the Chandler Plaza Hotel on Amador's laptop. Against Tony's wishes, Chappelle assigns Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) to lead a squad, including Gael (Jesse Borrego), to the hotel. While hotel security attempts to lock things down, Tony orders Michelle to wait outside until the HAZMAT suits arrive, but when she discovers that Alvers (Lothaire Bluteau) is inside, she goes in after him, and her team follows. Meanwhile, Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) deals with the aftermath of Milliken's death. The police don't buy Julia's (Gina Torres) cover story, and they don't believe Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) either, when she claims she was never at Milliken's house. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide
Having shot one guest who insisted upon leaving the hotel, Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) demands "absolute quiet and absolute cooperation" from the rest. She tells them that medical assistance is on the way, and orders them back to their rooms. The NHS team arrives in their HAZMAT suits and begins testing everyone for the virus. She gets Alvers (Lothaire Bluteau) to describe his employer, and after cross-referencing that description with a list of Jack's (Kiefer Sutherland) contacts, they determine that the mastermind behind the virus plot is Stephen Saunders (Paul Blackthorne), a British Secret Service agent whom Jack believed was killed in Kosovo. Gael (Jesse Borrego) is suffering horribly. Michelle offers him the chance to end his life quickly. She also convinces Tony (Carlos Bernard) to send a package of suicide capsules to the hotel. Chappelle (Paul Schulze), who is following the money trail to find Saunders, suggests to a distraught Tony that he proceed as though Michelle was already dead, and "make it about revenge." Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), struggling with whether or not to raise the threat level and close the airports, receives a package from Saunders, containing an untraceable cell phone. Saunders calls him and demands that he immediately call a press conference, during which he is to use the phrase "the sky is falling." In the interest of buying time, Palmer does as he's told. With help of Trevor (Simon Templeman) from MI6, Jack tracks down Diana White (Gabrielle Fitzpatrick), an associate of Saunders, but Jack's interrogation is interrupted when the MI6 offices are assaulted. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide
Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) has been given his next command by Saunders (Paul Blackthorne). Saunders wants Ryan Chappelle (Paul Schulze) dead. Palmer tells Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) the bad news, and then it's a race against the clock to find Saunders before the deadline for delivering Chappelle's body, at 7:00 a.m. Jack tells Tony (Carlos Bernard), who realizes that they need to change Chappelle's security clearance. Jack then takes Chappelle aside and tells him the shocking news. Since Chappelle has no past connection to Saunders, Jack realizes that the demand must be due to Chappelle's work on the money trail. He has Chappelle transfer those files to Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub), who finds an encrypted bank account. Chappelle tries to leave CTU, and when Jack stops him, he claims he was just going outside to smoke. As Chloe cracks the code and finds a Los Angeles address for Saunders, Jack takes Chappelle to the trainyard where his body is to be delivered, just in case the CTU team, led by Chase (James Badge Dale) and Tom Baker (Daniel Dae Kim), doesn't get to Saunders in time. Back at the Chandler Plaza Hotel, Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) has an emotional phone conversation with Tony. She then offers the suicide capsules to the infected guests. One guest, Kathy McCartney (Brigid Brannagh), comes forward to tell Michelle that the man she spent last night with is no longer in the hotel, and Michelle realizes that he must have left after the virus was released, but before CTU arrived to seal off the building. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Aftermath: A Test of Love begins where most TV movies end. Based on fact (as recorded in Gary Kinder's book Victim), the story revolves around the family of Richard Chamberlain, an aloof obstetrician. The family falls victim to a violent, random crime, depicted in gruesome detail. Chamberlain's wife is murdered, and one of his sons is seriously wounded. Surviving this ordeal, Chamberlain must now try to hold his remaining loved ones together emotionally and attempt to reassemble his own battered psyche. The true events which inspired Aftermath: A Test of Love occurred in the 1970s in Ogden, Utah, where this TV movie was partially filmed. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

An awful lot of awful things happen in the outwardly respectable neighborhood surrounding Wisteria Lane during the first season of Desperate Housewives, beginning with the suicide of Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) -- who still manages to stick around in spectral form to serve as the series' narrator. Why did she do it -- and what exactly is her husband, Paul (Mark Moses), trying to cover up by throwing that old box he'd dug up from the backyard swimming pool into the river? Then there are Mary Alice's housewife friends Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross), and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria). Divorcée Susan starts dating handsome plumber Mike (James Denton), only to be undercut by the neighborhood's resident vamp, the much-married Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan). Lynette has given up a high-paying business career to take care of her family, only to be rewarded with the cutthroat competitiveness of husband Tom (Doug Savant), the miserable behavior of her children, and the open scorn of such obnoxious neighbors as Maisy Gibbons (Sharon Lawrence). Control freak Bree, described by the ABC publicity folks as "Martha Stewart on steroids," finds her life spiralling out of control when her husband, Rex (Steven Culp), divorces her and her sociopathic son, Andrew (Shawn Pyfrom), adopts a "so what" attitude after striking down an old woman with his car. And sexy ex-model Gabrielle is cheating on her moonstruck millionaire husband, Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira), with hunky 17-year-old gardener John (Jesse Metcalfe). And that's only a sample of what season one has to offer. Want more? Well, you asked for it! Susan accidentally burns down Edie's house and is blackmailed on that account by a Mrs. Martha Huber (Christine Estabrook) -- who is later killed by Paul Young, but it is Mike who is arrested for her murder. Later still, Susan is descended upon by her ex-husband, Karl (Richard Burgi), and her intrusive mother, Sophie Bremmer (Lesley Ann Warren). As for Lynette, she finds out that her husband's sainted father (Ryan O'Neal) is a serial philanderer. Also, after painfully adjusting to the breakup of her marriage, Bree starts going out with pharmacist George Williams (Roger Bart); Paul Young's son, Zach (Cody Kasch), inexplicably drops out of sight; and it is revealed that the oh-so-judgmental Maisy Gibbons has been sleeping with practically every man in the neighborhood -- including Bree's ex Rex! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
