Randy Savage Movies
Born
Randy Poffo in Sarasota, FL, professional wrestler
Randy "Macho Man" Savage actually began his athletic life as a minor league baseball player on teams including the Cardinals and the White Sox, then moved into wrestling alongside his brother Larry. He spent successive years working his way up through the ranks of various wrestling federations; Larry and
Randy occasionally worked as a tag team, but also went head-to-head against one another from time to time, and indeed,
Randy's first two big breaks materialized in the form of an ICW Title victory against Larry and a defeat of
Jerry Lawler in the ring, which granted
Savage the title of Southern Heavyweight Champion.
Savage attained greatest leverage, however, via his involvement in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) under the management of his late wife, "Miss" Elizabeth Hulette; in that venue, the wrestler racked up a series of defeats against opponents including
Tito Santana,
Lex Luger,
Dusty Rhodes,
Brutus Beefcake, and others. After netting the WWF heavyweight title, he eventually left for the WCW amid a contractual dispute and won the heavyweight bout there as well. In that venue,
Savage was particularly successful in the creation of the nWo (or New World Order in professional wrestling).
Savage's various WCW opponents included
Sting,
Diamond Dallas Page,
Bret Hart, and
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper. One particularly memorable and colorful series of events involved
Savage's ongoing battle-of-wills with
Kevin Nash.
Unlike fellow wrestler
Hulk Hogan (with whom he often jostled),
Savage kept his distance from Hollywood for many years, but by the mid- to late 2000s moved into acting roles. These included a performance as Bone Saw McGraw in
Sam Raimi's
Spider-Man (2002), guest participation in the series
Mad About You and
Family Guy, and participation in season seven of VH1's reality series
The Surreal Life, opposite
Dabney Coleman,
Carrot Top, and others. In 2008,
Savage provided a voice for the family-friendly animated feature
Bolt, alongside
John Travolta,
Miley Cyrus, and others. Savage died in a car accident in 2011. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Bolt, the tale of a superstar TV pup (voiced by John Travolta) who gets plopped in the middle of America with seemingly no way back to the glam and glitz of Hollywood. Thanks to his starring role on a hit television show, Bolt the pooch has become a household name. But Bolt has bought into his own heroic image, now believing that he really possesses the super-canine powers of his fictional television series. When he's accidentally shipped from Hollywood to New York City, he must rely on the help from his two newfound friends -- an abandoned house cat named Mittens (voiced by Susie Essman) and a television-addicted hamster named Rhino (voice of Mark Walton) -- as he embarks on a cross-country quest to get back to his owner (and co-star), Penny (voice of Miley Cyrus). ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

The strange career of one of the wrestling world's most controversial figures is explored in this WWE Home Video release focusing on eccentric brawler The Ultimate Warrior. When The Ultimate Warrior thundered into the arena with his signature arm bands in place and face paint indicating he was ready for battle, the roar of the crowd would turn almost deafening. In his victory against wrestling mega-star Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VI, it seemed as if Ultimate Warrior mania was set to sweep the globe. Though memorable matches against Randy "Macho Man" Savage and Ravishing Rick Rude hinted at a bright future, The Ultimate Warrior's career in the ring began to fade following his strange spectacle at Summerslam 1991. Now through interviews with Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, and others who worked with The Ultimate Warrior in the WWE and WCW, the truth about America's strangest athlete comes to life as never before. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Its title notwithstanding, the half-hour animated series The X's was not a ripoff of X-Men but rather a derivation of the live-action Spy Kids theatrical films. Mr. and Mrs. X (voiced by veteran comic actors Patrick Warburton and Wendie Malick) were the parents of a family of highly skilled "special ops" secret agents for the covert organization SUPERIOR. Headquartered in Cleveland, the X Family, which also included daughter Tuesday and son Truman, used their peculiar talents to save the world from the evil spy aggregation SNAFU, whose members included Glowface, Lorenzo Suave, Sasquatch and the Scream Queens). The "good guys" took their orders from the talking computer Home Base, voiced by Stephen Root (NewsRadio, Office Space). Although they seemed to be a class apart from the rest of Cleveland, the X's were pretty much like any other family during their off-hours: Constantly bickering, complaining, and teasing and tormenting one another. Created by Carlos Ramos, whose other credits included the popular cartoon weekly ChalkZone, The X's was first seen over cable's Cartoon Network on November 25, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The sex-obsessed Quagmire thinks he'd died and gone to heaven when he is propositioned by Loretta, the bored wife of neighbor Cleveland. As for Loretta's husband, he has precisely no idea what's going on--no surprise, since he never has any idea of what's going on. Alerted by Peter and Brian, Cleveland finds out about his wife's indiscretion and plots a unique revenge--once the smoke stops spouting from his ears. This episode offers pop-cultural references to four of the Rocky films, as well as the extremely obscure series Kicked in the Nuts! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

After incorporating elements of comic book style and design into many of his films, director Sam Raimi helms this straight-ahead, big-budget comic book adaptation, which also marks acclaimed young actor Tobey Maguire's first dip into live-action blockbuster filmmaking. Spider-Man follows the template of the original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko source material, with hero Peter Parker an orphaned, intellectual teen loner living in Queens with his aunt (Rosemary Harris) and uncle (Cliff Robertson), and dreaming of the girl next door, Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). On a field trip to a Columbia University lab, Peter is bitten by a genetically altered spider and overnight he gains superhuman strength, agility, and perception. At first, Peter uses his powers for material gain, winning a wrestling match with a purportedly lucrative prize. But when Peter apathetically fails to stop a burglar from robbing the wrestling arena, a tragedy follows that compels him to devote his powers to fighting crime -- as the superhero Spider-Man. When he's not busy fighting crime in a spider suit, Peter moves into an apartment with his best friend, Harry (James Franco), and begins work as a photographer at the Daily Bugle. Meanwhile, his do-gooder alter ego finds a nemesis in the form of the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), a super-powered, megalomaniacal villain who happens to be the alter ego of Harry's father, weapons-manufacturing mogul Norman Osborn. Spider-Man was written by the prolific blockbuster scribe David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Panic Room). ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi
