Mia Sara Movies
American actress Mia Sara started out in TV commercials and in a brief recurring role on the daytime soaper All My Children. Her first film, lensed in England, was 1985's Legend, in which she played a fairy tale ingenue opposite Tom Cruise. Few of her later films are worthy of mention, though she was effectively cast as Matthew Broderick's girlfriend and prankish co-conspirator in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986). Banking on her slight resemblance to actress Merle Oberon, Sara adequately filled the role of the Oberon counterpart in the 1987 TV movie Queenie. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide- 1988

Thelo (Ned Beatty) is a middle-aged librarian who is fired from his job for drinking too much. He sets out for the woods in hopes that getting back to nature will inspire him to write poetry. There he meets Melanie (Mira Sara), who is the embodiment of everything he finds beautiful in women, and he watches as she is mistreated in the next cabin. Melanie and Thelo meet by the river and make love, but their splendor is interrupted by Melanie's abusive mate. After the thug is shot and falls into the river, the two begin to receive blackmail threats from someone who supposedly witnessed a murder. The two-part TV movie Queenie was adapted from the roman a clef by Michael Korda. This is the story of Queenie Kelly,an English girl (Mia Sara) from the slums of Calcutta who is kept from full knowledge of her Indian heritage by her protective mother (Jean Simmons). As a means of bettering herself, Queenie moves to London, where she works as an exotic dancer. Later on, Queenie, using an assumed name, becomes a famous movie star and marries a powerful producer. At the point, we should observe that "Queenie" was the nickname of Michael Korda's aunt: actress Merle Oberon, who was married to British film mogul Alexander Korda. Any resemblance to actual persons living or dead is purely...well, you know. And any resemblance between awkward newcomer Mia Sara and the ultra-sophisticated Merle Oberon is...well, accidental. Teenaged Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is a legend in his own time thanks to his uncanny skill at cutting classes and getting away with it. Intending to make one last grand duck-out before graduation, Ferris calls in sick, "borrows" a Ferrari, and embarks on a one-day bacchanal through the streets of Chicago. Dogging Ferris' trail at every turn is high-school principal Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), determined to catch Bueller in the act of class-cutting. Writer/director John Hughes once again tries to wed satire, slapstick, and social commentary, as Ferris Bueller's Day Off starts like a house afire and goes on to make "serious" points about status-seeking and casual parental cruelties. It brightens up considerably in the last few moments, when Ferris' tattletale sister (Jennifer Grey) decides to align herself with her merry prankster sibling. This beautifully staged and costumed fantasy is about young Jack (Tom Cruise) and his lady love Princess Lili (Mia Sara), and how Jack battles Darkness (Tim Curry) to save both the Princess and the world. When the peasant Jack takes Princess Lili to see the unicorns, the strongest animals around, he does not know that Darkness, with his cloven hooves, yellow eyes, and red skin plans on using Lili as bait to weaken the unicorns which he does -- and plunge the world into an ice age. Soon after that disaster, Darkness captures Lili and, Jack has to rally his elves and elvettes to rescue her and subdue Darkness at the same time. As one might guess, this fantasy is strong on visual elements but a little shaky on plot. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
