When the director goes on a murderous rampage and begins using real body parts as props for his latest flick, intrepid reporter April Carson (Sasha Grey) teams with seasoned detective Isaac Beaumonde (Jesse Buck) to stop the slaughter before the film is finished. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The HBO series Tell Me You Love Me was the premiere "water cooler" show of the 2007-2008 season; love it or hate, people simply couldn't stop talking about it. Filmed in cinema-verite fashion, this was the saga of three couples, ranging in age from the 20s to the 40s, who shared the same sex therapist. Eldest couple Dave (Tim McKay) and Katie (Ally Walker) were married with children, but hadn't had sex in over a year. Thirtysomethings Carolyn (Sonya Walger) and Palek (Adam Scott) desperately wanted a baby, but Palek didn't like being pressured into sex at his wife's command. And though youngest couple Jamie (Michelle Borth) and Hugo (Luke Farrell Kirby) couldn't keep their hands off each other, not even in public, Jamie worried that Hugo would end up being unfaithful. While therapist May Foster (Jane Alexander) was able to help her patients with the most delicate and potentially embarrassing of issues, she herself occasionally had problems with her significant other Arthur (David Selby). The series was verbally and visually explicit even by HBO standards, with one scene of simulated oral sex between sixtyish actors Jane Alexander and David Selby all but setting the screen ablaze. Tell Me You Love Me debuted September 9, 2007. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

He agrees to one more murder, only to find that the people he's dealing with are far more morally bankrupt than he. The intended victim is a nasty businessman who is cuckolding not only his partner, but also Cahill's contact. A young man who fantasizes about an older woman discovers his daydreams may be turning into realities in this coming-of-age comedy-drama. Eric (Corey Haim) and Donald (Andrew Miller) are two teenage boys growing up in a small farming community in Canada in the mid-1950's. Eric and Donald are at the uncomfortable age where their interest in women far outstrips their knowledge of how to get women interested in them. Eric is also still recovering from the death of his mother, while he struggles to come to terms with the remarriage of his father, Thorvald (Kier Dullea), to Eva (Genevieve Bujold). As local gas jockey Mr. Todd (Robbie Coltrane) offers Eric and Donald advice on courting the fairer sex, Eric discovers Vera (Barbara Williams), the attractive wife of the farmer living next door, enjoys skinny-dipping with her daughters, and Eric digs a makeshift "hideout" where he can watch her undetected. Eric begins to strike up a friendship with Vera, while unknown to him, Vera becomes increasingly unhappy in her marriage. One day, Vera catches Eric as he watches her swimming, but rather than reacting with anger, she reaches out to the inexperienced youth. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Cold Comfort is an award-winning Canadian-made psychodrama about a psychotic father who kidnaps a man to keep his teen-aged daughter company. Stephen (Paul Gross), a handsome traveling salesman, is Floyd's (Maury Chaykin) birthday gift to his daughter Dolores (Margaret Langrick). Dolores and Stephen become increasingly attached and Stephen agrees to help Dolores escape from her father, to whom she is emotionally bound. When Dolores and Stephen try to escape, Floyd catches them and chains Stephen to a wall. Only Dolores can rescue him. Cold Comfort is grim, slow, and certainly not for everyone, but for those who appreciate intricate psychodrama, Cold Comfort is well worth viewing. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

Though not a true sequel to Paul Lynch's derivative slasher-dud Prom Night, this Carrie-flavored horror film begins in 1957 with the fiery death of bitchy prom queen Mary Lou Maloney (Lisa Schrage) courtesy of a backfired stinkbomb stunt pulled by her jealous ex-boyfriend. Thirty years later, her killer has become the school principal (Michael Ironside), and sweet, innocent Vicki (Wendy Lyon) is a contender for the prom-queen title. Mary Lou's vengeful spirit spies the perfect opportunity to reclaim her crown once and for all. The rest of the film involves Vicki adopting Mary Lou's less-than-reputable habits and messily destroying anyone who stands between her and the coveted title. High points include a telekinetic "Tutti Frutti" locker-room squashing and a swirling demonic blackboard, all courtesy of FX wizard Jim Doyle, who worked previously on A Nightmare on Elm Street, to which this film bears some stylistic similarities. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

The sublimely derivative Blindside stirs up a modicum of tension. The principal character is a onetime surveillance expert, who after purchasing a motel can't resist the temptation of spying on his guests. No, there's no shower stabbing here, but there isa brutal murder. Before long, our peeping-tom protagonist is up to his chin in drug-traffic intrigue. As the voyeuristic hero, Harvey Keitel is the most recognizable performer in Blindside; with the exception of the always welcome Lolita Davidovich, the rest of the cast is unremarkable. Filmed in 1986, Blindside was released in the US in 1988. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

It's Valentine's Day in the tiny mining town of Valentine's Bluff, Nova Scotia, and for the first time in two decades the residents are planning a holiday dance. The long hiatus is due to the tragic events of 20 years earlier, when a pair of mining supervisors were too busy enjoying themselves at the dance to prevent an accident from killing a large contingent of their workers. The lone survivor, Harry Warden, took his revenge the next year by removing the hearts of his bosses and promising similar carnage if ever another Valentine's dance were held. Unfortunately, the town's horny early-'80s youngsters aren't big on tradition, especially since Warden is locked up in an insane asylum. They go ahead with plans to celebrate the holiday -- even after a heart in a candy box shows up and beloved biddy Mabel (Patricia Hamilton) ends up enduring an involuntary tumble dry. Soon, bodies begin piling up, setting the stage for a climactic trawl through the mines and surprise revelations about the fate of Harry Warden. Shortly after the death of John Lennon, the MPAA made an example of this Canadian slasher film, forcing much of its gore to be excised. Nevertheless, My Bloody Valentine provided inspiration for Kevin Shields' influential band of the same name, which helped establish England's late-'80s shoegazer sound and paved the way for the post-rock of the 1990s. ~ Brian J. Riding the coattails of the resurgent boom in horror films after the success of Halloween, Terror Train features teeth-chattering direction by Roger Spottiswoode and pristine cinematography from John Alcott. The story is the basic slasher film premise, remounted on a moving train. A college fraternity decides to hold a New Year's Eve party on a train. But an uninvited guest, a disturbed ex-fraternity member, decides to take revenge on the partying students by killing them off one by one in increasingly grisly fashion. On board the terror train is horror film perennial Jamie Lee Curtis, along with David Copperfield, and Ben Johnson as Carne the conductor, who tries to calm the women students by saying things like, "Now you young ladies stay up here --it's too dangerous down in that other car." ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Infamous exploitation icon Herschell Gordon Lewis wrapped up his lengthy foray into low-budget gore epics with this coda, which not only sports Lewis' most creative title, but revels in an amazing barrage of outrageous (and patently fake-looking) makeup effects. The nominal plot involves a masked psychopath stalking, torturing, and murdering the strippers at a Miami nightclub owned by standup veteran Henny Youngman. But enough of that -- it's merely a loose linking device for a multitude of sleazy murder scenes, all of which involve some kind of sick visual gag. The murders range from simple throat-slashings to the popping of eyeballs to the protracted french-frying of one poor girl's head. Essentially a retread of Blood Feast (and perhaps an attempt to outdo some), this flick was re-released later under the title Blood Orgy. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

The final installment in cult filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis' loosely knit hillbilly trilogy (Moonshine Mountain and This Stuff'll Kill Ya! are the other two) stars country & western singer Claude King as (of all things) a country & western singer. Some stereotypical scuzzballs from Washington con him into running for senator, but find that Southerners are not so easily fooled. Although it's typically vulgar Lewis fare, it makes an interesting comparison with the same year's The Candidate and the 1992 satire Bob Roberts, both of which bear more than a passing similarity to this one. Lewis regulars Ray Sager, Jeffrey Allen, and Dan Krogh are also on hand. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

A renegade backwoods reverend practices what he preaches and gets into all sorts of trouble with the FBI and some of his more upstanding parishioners in this lurid crime drama that was originally made to be shown on the Southern drive-in exploitation film circuit. The preacher's problems begin when he continues to expound the glories of moonshine and fast women on his pulpit. It is the former (the preacher makes illegal corn squeezin's on the side) that gets him into trouble. The story's mandatory violence and bloodshed comes in when one of the rev's most ardent supporters begins to graphically slaughter those who oppose him. Unfortunately, this is not the sort of support the minister wants and in the end, he and his psycho fan get into a bloody final conflict. This film is the swan song of heretofore distinguished actor Tim Holt. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
