Sherrie Rose Movies
While studying engineering at the University of San Francisco, Sherrie Rose noticed how much fun and comraderie the actors in the theater program seemed to be enjoying. Getting in on the fun herself, Rose began studying acting as well and honed her skills on-stage before scoring some small roles on shows like Miami Vice and Married... with Children. She would go on to wrack up a massive list of appearances over the coming years, on everything from Charmed to Sons of Anarchy, in addition to producing and directing the film Me and Will in 1999. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie GuideSo just how far would you go to make out with the dreamboat in high school who would never talk to you? That's the all-important question for the protagonist of this very dark independent comedy. Dale Spitler (Nathan Bexton) is a mild-mannered, slightly nerdy high school student who sometimes works as a babysitter for Darlene Murphy (Sherrie Rose), a single mother raising an annoying but cute eight-year-old daughter, Dustine (Jessica Stone). Darlene makes it very (but very) clear to Dale that she has the hots for him, but Dale is gay, and only has eyes for Raymond Haver (Jason Hall), the hunky but thick-headed (and extremely heterosexual) captain of the wrestling team. One day, while Dale is looking after Dustine (and trying to find Darlene's stash of Playgirl magazines), his best friend Violet Wertsema (Diva Zappa) arrives in a panic -- it seems she was involved in an accident with a pickup truck, which led to the truck bursting into flames. Dale and Violet arrive at the scene of the accident, where Dale discovers that the driver of the ruined truck was none other than Raymond. Raymond has not survived the wreck, but Dale wonders if this might provide the opportunity for a romantic encounter with Raymond that never could have occurred while the wrestler was alive. Play Dead was shown in competition at the 2001 Slamdance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Debbie, who has never had trouble attracting whatever man she wants, sets her sights on Peter Rinaldi (Alex McArthur), a teacher at her high school. However, Peter has both a fiancée and strong scruples, so he repeatedly rejects Debbie's advances. But Hell hath no fury like a Debbie scorned, and before long Peter finds that his life is ruined and bodies are piling up, as an angry Ms. Strand takes her revenge on her would-be suitor. This first theatrical feature spun off from the television series Tales from the Crypt (which was in turn inspired by the infamous EC horror comics of the 1950s) concerns a mysterious man named Brayker (Bill Sadler), who arrives at a church-turned-rooming house in a small town in New Mexico. Hot on his trail is an equally mysterious and very menacing figure known as the Collector (Billy Zane), who arrives with policemen in tow; he claims that Brayker stole some keys from him, and he wants the cops to help him reclaim them. It turns out, however, that the "keys" are actually several amulets that contain drops of the blood of Christ; they can be used to ward off evil in the right hands, but they can lead the world to doom if used improperly. The Collector and his forces lay siege to the house with the other residents caught in the middle between Brayker and the Collector, including alcoholic Uncle Willy (Dick Miller), prostitute Cordelia (Brenda Bakke), sleazy Southerner Roach (Thomas Haden Church), postal employee Wally (Charles Fleischer), sensible Jeryline (Jada Pinkett), and landlady Irene (CCH Pounder). Bordello of Blood, the second Tales from the Crypt feature, hit theaters the following year. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In this erotic thriller (which at the same time parodies many stereotypical elements of the genre), Monica Martel (Sally Kirkland) is a one-time sex symbol whose career has seen better days. Hoping for a comeback, Monica agrees to appear in a steamy murder mystery, but there's a catch: while the script has a number of nude scenes for her character, Monica refuses to appear nude herself. An attractive younger woman named Lisa Shane (Sherrie Rose) is hired to serve as Monica's body double; Monica is less than enthusiastic about this development, especially when her husband and co-star Eric Cline (ndrew Stevens) begins showing a more-than-professional interest in Lisa. Lisa is nearly killed when a bomb causes her car to explode, and many on the film begin to wonder if Monica's jealousy has begun to spin into homicidal madness. Double Threat is available on home video in both R-rated and unrated versions. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
