The nurses go on strike, forcing the doctors and interns (with the exception of George [T.R. Knight], who refuses to cross the picket line) to soldier on all by themselves. With Bailey on pregnancy leave, her replacement is Dr. Sydney Aaron (Kali Rocha), the polar opposite of Seattle Grace's infamous "Nazi". Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) makes a mistake while treating a patient, and the error does not go unnoticed by the patient's gossipy friends (played by veteran actresses Betty Garrett, June Lockhart and Rae Allen). And elsewhere, the beleagured doctors must cope with a sullen pregnant teenager and a mysterious skin ailment. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
After a round of lies between Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) about their love lives (or lack of same), the story proper gets under way with Cristina having second thoughts about moving in with Burke (Isaiah Washington), and George (T.R. Knight) threatening to move out of Meredith's house unless she meets his demands. Back at work, the staff deals with such patients as a competitive hot dog eater (Natalie N. Okamoto) suffering from what may be a terminal case of hiccups; a rock guitarist (Donovan Leitch) who loses several fingers; a woman (Jill Holden) whose drug treatment makes her abnormally cheerful; and an elderly lady (Carole Cook) who stubbornly refuses to leave after being discharged (as usual, George is stuck with this one!) And in another development, Alex (Justin Chambers) gets the results of his board exams. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
As Season Three of Grey's Anatomy gets under way, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) has only a few fleeting moments to ponder her romantic rendezvous with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) at the end of Season Two before Derek and George (T.R. Knight) are quarantined in the same room by a flu epidemic. In another unresolved issue from the previous season, Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is so devastated by the death of heart patient Denny Duquette that she decides to give up her medical career completely. Elsewhere, the wife (Loretta Devine) of surgery chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) forces him to choose between the hospital and her; and two of the surgeons look after an infant found in a most unexpected place. This episode is highlighted by an extensive flashback to that wonderful night in 2005 just before the series' regulars began their "tour of duty" at Seattle Grace Hospital. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
After considering several candidates, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) decides who will be her roommates during her first-year internship. Back on the job, she butts heads with a pediatric intern to save the life of a newborn child, and also claims temporary possession of a gruesome "souvenir" left behind by the man who raped her patient Allison (Alex Thayer). Meanwhile, Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Alex (Justin Chambers) get their act together, so to speak; George (T.R. Knight) spends a few disheartening hours with the Seattle Grace code team; and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) copes with a patient who speaks no English. In other developments, Burke (Isaiah Washington) finds out why Derek (Patrick Dempsey) may be chosen as chief of surgery over hm; and Webber (James Pickens Jr.) remains close-mouthed over how well he knew Meredith's mom. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Worried about his failing eyesight, Webber (James Pickens Jr.) confides his fears to Derek (Patrick Dempsey), who makes a startling suggestion. After a night of passion with one of the nurses, George (T.R. Knight) becomes the latest victim of a sexually transmitted disease that has inflicted several other members of the hospital staff. Burke (Isaiah Washington) discovers that his best friend Bill (Wayne Wilderson) is a patient at Seattle Grace, a fact that casts unpleasant aspersions upon Bill's wife. And Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) are caught in the crossfire as the family of an alcoholic bickers over the man's medical treatment. But the big "money scene" in this final episode of Grey's Anatomy's first season occurs at the very end, when Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). discovers to her chagrin that she is definitely NOT the only woman is Derek's life. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The hospital staff anxiously prepares for the birth of quintuplets, but the delivery is a extremely difficult one and the outlook isn't promising for the undersized infants. Somehow or other Burke (Isaiah Washington) finds time to slip Cristina (Sandra Oh) his apartment key, which temporarily throws her off balance. Elsewhere, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is shocked and embarrassed when a guy she'd picked up at Joe's bar the night before shows up at the hospital with a painful priapism--and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) is the consulting physician! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Everyone seems to be having a Merry Christmas except the people at Seattle Grace. Izzie (Katherine Heigl) can't get into the holiday spirit because she's still p.o.'ed at Alex (Justin Chambers), who for his part is convinced that he'll fail again when he takes his board exams for the second time. Back at the hospital, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) maintains her backbreaking schedule despite her pregnancy; George (T.R. Knight) can't help but feel that his patient's obnoxious relatives are the root cause for her gastric ulcer; and Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Burke (Isaiah Washington) have a theological argument while trying to persuade a 10-year-old to undergo a heart transplant. Finally, though Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Addison (Kate Walsh) have reconciled for the umpteenth time, it doesn't last long--a fact that doesn't make Addison happy, but which may turn out to be the best Christmas present that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) ever had. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The OR staff has its hands full with the victims of a spectacular car crash caused by flagrantly careless driver Bob Seibert. In the course of events, it is revealed that Seibert is a drug abuser, wife beater and all-around louse--and he is also in desperate need of a liver transplant. Ironically, the perfect donor turns out to be the very man whom Seibert killed on the road, placing the surgical interns smack in the middle of a major ethical dilemma. Elsewhere, George (T.R. Knight) is forced to work side by side with the same nurse who gave him syphillis; Webber (James Pickens Jr.) gets what-for from his wife (Loretta Devine) for having brain surgery without her knowledge; Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) do their best to lose themselves in their work and forget their romantic travails; and we finally find out the reason for the rift between Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Addison (Kate Walsh). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Season Two of Grey's Anatomy picks up exactly where Season One left off, with the unexpected arrival at Seattle Grace Hospital of brilliant surgeon Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh)--much to the dismay of Addison's estranged husband Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), to say nothing of Derek's current amour, surgical intern Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). Naturally, Meredith feels betrayed by Derek, and keeps on feeling that way throughout the rest of the episode. Meanwhile, chief of surgery Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) recovers from his operation with the special help of intern George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), who has been appointed official bearer of gossip from the hospital; and Meredith's friend and coworker Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) has big news for her boss Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington)--and vice versa. Finally, arrogant intern Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) displays a hitherto untapped streak of compassion when the team's favorite bartender Joe suffers a heart attack. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
A planned romantic rendezvous for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) is interrupted by a train wreck which brings dozens of victims into Seattle Grace. Among these are a twentyish woman named Bonnie (Monica Keena) and a middle-aged man named Tom (Bruce A. Young), who form an unusual bond while impaled together on a pole. Meanwhile, a critical operation is put on hold while Cristina (Sandra Oh) searches for the patient's missing leg; Addison (Kate Walsh) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) struggle to save the life of a burn victim's unborn child; and Alex (Justin Chambers) tries to care for his patient Mary (Juliette Jeffers), despite the obnoxious interpolations of Mary's friend Yvonne (Kym Whitley)--whose ceaseless carping about Alex's medical skills and bedside manner cause him to wonder if he has chosen the right profession after all. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
In keeping with the light and slick tones of her earlier film What Women Want, Nancy Meyers writes and directs the romantic comedy Something's Gotta Give. Jack Nicholson plays Harry Langer, a swinging sixtysomething entertainment executive surrounded by plenty of young girlfriends. His latest romance is young petite sophisticate Marin (Amanda Peet), who takes him to her mother's beach house in the Hamptons for a weekend fling. However, Marin's successful Broadway playwright mother Erica Barry (Diane Keaton) is already vacationing at the house with her sister Zoe (Frances McDormand). Marin and Harry stay anyway, and Harry ends up having a heart attack. He goes to the hospital and is looked after by thirtysomething doctor Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves). Impressed by her writing, Dr. Mercer finds himself pursuing a romance with Erica. Because of his serious health condition, he orders Harry to stay near the hospital. While Marin returns to Manhattan, Erica agrees to stay on and look after Harry. Of course they are repulsed by each other at first, but they end up falling in love throughout the recovery process. Also starring Jon Favreau as Harry's assistant. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

A mix of political satire and a modern take on 1930's-style screwball comedy, this romance from director Ron Underwood was assumed by many to be based on the real-life relationship between liberal political consultant James Carville and conservative commentator Mary Matalin. Michael Keaton stars as Kevin, an insomniac who meets Julia (Geena Davis) in a store late one night as they haggle over the last bottle of sleeping pills. After spending a romantic evening together, Kevin and Julia each discover to their chagrin that the other is a rival speechwriter in a nasty New Mexico senatorial campaign. As the senate race heats up, the bickering pair tries to keep the relationship alive, but then Julia's ex-fiance Baghdad Bob Freed (Christopher Reeve), a network news foreign correspondent, shows up with the intention of renewing their relationship. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Real-life father and son Lloyd and Beau Bridges star in the tense modern melodrama Secret Sins of the Father. Nebraska farmer Louis Thielman (Lloyd) is charged with murder of his wife. Making the charge is Louis's son Tom (Beau), the town sheriff. Though the evidence points to Louis, there are those who believe that Tom is pursuing a vendetta rather than justice. For starters, Louis has been carrying on an affair with Lisa Carson, Tom's ex-lover. Despite the film's docudrama approach, this one isn't based on a true story. Beau Bridges doubled as director for this made-for-TV drama, which debuted January 9, 1994. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This interesting action-horror film stars Mario Van Peebles as a tough cop who becomes the latest recruit in a secret faction of the police which not only operates on the fringes of the law, but is also composed entirely of werewolves. Horror fans who choose to embrace the fundamental goofiness of this premise will find an interesting blend of hyperkinetic John Woo-style action, comic-book fantasy, and good old-fashioned monster mayhem. Inducted into the league of lycanthropic lawmen by one of its more aesthetically pleasing members (Patsy Kensit), Van Peebles partakes of a drug which, like the others on the squad, brings out his animal instincts and endows him with superhuman strength and agility (as well as some unsightly body hair). Despite some touches of black comedy, director Anthony Hickox plays the material fairly straight, with a strong emphasis on slick, tightly edited action sequences. Originally produced for HBO, this was later released on video with some of the gorier footage restored. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

One of few survivors of a fatal plane crash, Klein remains calm and assists other survivors out of the burning debris, earning praise as a hero by the media. After stoically departing the tragedy without a word to emergency officials, Max returns home with detached feelings towards his wife (Isabella Rossellini) and son, along with a bizarre, seemingly authentic belief that he is now impervious to harm. Bill Perlman (John Turturro), a psychiatrist for the airline, fails to reach Max about his newfound fearlessness, but asks for his help in aiding Carla (Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee Rosie Perez), a fellow crash survivor filled with grief and guilt over the loss of her baby. In the Best Interest of the Child was not based on a true story. That's the official line adopted by producer Robert A. Papazian, even though the plot of this made-for-TV movie would seem to be inspired by the exploits of the real-life Dr. Elizabeth Morgan. True or no, there's plenty of conviction in this story of a young woman (Meg Tilly) who risks imprisonment for the sake of her daughter. Having learned that her ex-husband is molesting the child, Ms. Tilly "kidnaps" the girl and heads off to parts unknown. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
