The title of this episode is something of a misnomer: It's anything but routine for Officers Jim Reed (Kent McCord) and Pete Malloy (Martin Milner) when they pursue four young car thieves. The quartet has stolen a vehicle full of weaponry and ammunition, and now they're taking advantage of this fact by going on a violent crime spree. Other crises facing Jim and Pete tonight include a "dead spouse" report and an outsized bar fight. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In a departure from the usual Adam-12 format, Officer Pete Malloy (Martin Milner) narrates the life story of his former partner Tom Porter (Mark Goddard), who was killed in the line of duty. Malloy recalls his friendship with Porter, which began when both men were rookies at the police academy. Also reflected upon is Porter's home life with his wife Marge (Rachel Roman) and their children. Other than Martin Milner's narration and a few opening comments by series producer Jack Webb, this unique documentary-style drama contains no dialogue. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

O'Rourke (Forrest Tucker) would like to keep Captain Parmenter (Ken Berry) out of his hair so that he can inaugurate a few more crooked business enterprises. Figuring that the Captain would be less of an interference if he were married, O'Rourke decides to play matchmaker between Parmenter and Wrangler Jane (Melody Patterson)--but it is Agarn (Larry Storch) who unwittingly assumes the role of Jane's sweetheart. The highlight of this episode is a short-but-sweet parody of the sexy "eating scene" from the 1963 Oscar winner Tom Jones. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Ron Ormond, the Carolina-based purveyor of bottom-budget "regionals," was producer of The Girl From Tobacco Row. Per its title, the film concerns a young lady from a tobacco-growing community, played by Rachel Romen. Surrounded by a flock of inbred boyfriends who won't take no for an answer, Rachel struggles to rise above her poverty-stricken surroundings. Legendary singing cowboy Tex Ritter, who certainly didn't need the money, is top billed in this inexpensive melodrama. Co-directed by producer Ormond and his wife June, this drama features their son Tim Ormond in the cast. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Shock Corridor represents filmmaker Samuel Fuller at his most excessive, but few would have it otherwise. Peter Breck plays a ruthless journalist who believes that the quickest way to a Pulitzer Prize is to uncover the facts behind a murder at a mental hospital. To glean first-hand information, Breck pretends to go insane and is locked up in the institution. While pursuing his investigation, Breck is sidetracked by the loopy behavior of his fellow inmates. During a hospital riot, Breck is straightjacketed and subjected to shock treatment. By now almost as crazy as he's previously pretended to be, Breck begins imagining that his exotic-dancer girlfriend Constance Towers (a Samuel Fuller "regular") is actually his sister! Typical of the Fuller ouevre, the characters in Shock Corridor are either saved or destroyed by their individual obsessions. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
