Dig! director Ondi Timoner takes the helm for this cinéma vérité-style documentary concerning the flight of four families from a tyrannical, pseudo-Christian pastor and their subsequent attempt to seek justice for the role he played in destroying their lives. After safely escaping the South Carolina compound of the religious zealot who calls himself the most perfect representation of humankind alive, the families all check into Wellspring -- a respected cult-victim treatment facility. As the deprogramming of the former cult members commences, councilors gradually discover just what it was that prompted the escapees to sacrifice their entire lives for the benefit of a church that used religion to dominate them in every possible way imaginable. This drama about a family of Italian-American apple farmers sees New York entertainment publicist Bob Tredici (Marc Grapey) return to the family farm in Indiana after learning that his father, Franco (Robert Breuler), has been in an accident. Since Bob rejected farming duties long ago to pursue a career in showbusiness, his cousin Greg (Jeff Puckett) assumes that he will take over the farm when Franco dies. Bob, however, discovers that he likes farming, and he convinces his secretary Happy (Rebecca Harrell) to come to the farm and pose as his wife to help him win back his father's trust. Produced in Canada for a Canadian and U.S. viewership, the weekly, hour-long drama series Fast Track starred Keith Carradine as Richard Beckett. A former racecar driver, Beckett had become a doctor, working almost exclusively along the speedway circuit and tending to the injuries of his fellow motorists. Naturally, Beckett also got involved with various domestic crises, and occasionally put in time as an amateur detective. The impressive supporting cast included Duncan Regehr as Christian Chandler Jr., Tristan Rogers as Harry, Fred Williamson as Lowell Carter, and Sebastian Spence as Stevie Servine. In Tanzania, Quest team members Jonny, Jessie, and Hadji receive a summons from "beyond" to protect a pachyderm named Ndovu as it makes its final journey to the elephant's graveyard. En route, our heroes run afoul of poachers who intend to rob the sacred burial site of its rich ivory deposits. Susan discovers that her ex-lover Malcolm Biggs (Tristan Rogers) is a member of the Homeguard, a radical pro-Earth terrorist group. The Homeguard intends to rekindle old prejudices by assassinating Minbari poet/ambassador Shaal Mayan (Nancy Lee Grahn). Meanwhile, a young Centauri (Rodney Eastman) balks at the prospect of a tradtional arranged marriage. Written by Star Trek fixture D.C. Bernard (voice of Bob Newhart) and Miss Bianca (voice of Eva Gabor), the intrepid mouse squad from the International Rescue Society of The Rescuers, return to help a little boy from the Australian outback named Cody ({voice of Adam Ryen), who has been kidnapped by an evil poacher named McLeach (voice of George C. Scott). Enlisting the air services of Wilbur the Albatross (voice of John Candy), the two mice travel to the wasteland of Australia. McLeach is a dark complexioned exploiter who scours the Outback in a giant hovercraft, intent on capturing endangered species and selling them for a hefty profit. Bernard and Miss Bianca befriend a Paul Hogan-type mouse named Jake (Tristan Rogers), but to battle against the evil McLeach, Bernard's wisdom is required in order to save the day. This sick little horror film from British gore/exploitation director Pete Walker finds a group of actors summoned by an anonymous producer to take part in a gruesome Grand Guignol play being staged at an isolated resort, only to find that their characters' elaborately staged theatrical deaths are designed to do them in for real. It is revealed that their unseen benefactor is a former stage performer, driven psychotic after catching another actor in bed with his wife, who now seeks symbolic retribution against all actors for their immoral behavior. Though not quite as sleazy as some of Walker's later work, this is still fairly gruesome stuff. The same theme gets vastly superior treatment in the following year's Theatre of Blood, featuring a tour-de-force performance from Vincent Price. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide
