Richard Sabine (Godfrey Tearle) at first appears in Wolves of the Underworld as a mysterious sidelines character. He is pressed into service by beautiful Joan Harding (Isla Bevan), who wants to clear her uncle of a murder charge. Another resident of Joan's household is an escaped convict, likewise pleading innocence. It is finally revealed that Sabine is a combination attorney and detective, magnanimously solving everyone's problems and seeing to it that the guilty are punished.
