Jorge Rivero Movies
Mexican movie leading man Jorge Rivero has occasionally essayed character roles in North-of-the-Border productions. Rivero is best known to Howard Hawks buffs as Captain Pierre Cordona in Hawks' Rio Lobo (1969), in which the actor was afforded second billing, just below John Wayne. Though not confined to Latino roles, he has generally played such strongly ethnic types as Spotted Wolf, the principal Native American character in Soldier Blue (1970). Active into the 1990s, Jorge Rivero was most recently seen in 1993's Ice. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie GuideFriendship turns to rivalry when a woman finds her affections shifting in this moody drama from Mexico. Antonio (Jaime Moreno) and Jose Luis (Jorge Rivero) are a pair of small-time crooks who are hoping to land a big score by robbing a safe, but run afoul of an armed security guard. Jose Luis is shot and taken to jail, but Antonio manages to escape unharmed, and he flees to a small island with his beautiful and provocatively named girlfriend, Erotica (Rebeca Silva). As their bankroll dwindles, Erotica finds herself supporting the household as her fugitive lover becomes increasingly lazy and non-ambitious. Jose Luis manages to escape from behind bars, and he makes his way to Antonio's hideout; while he initially stays there over Erotica's strong objections, he soon proves his strength and loyalty when he rescues her from a would-be rapist. Erotica soon finds herself attracted to her boyfriend's crony, and, in time, jealousy between the two men escalates into violence. Erotica was the final directorial effort from the acclaimed Mexican writer/actor/filmmaker Emilio Indio Fernandez. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
