A series of mysterious malfunctions plague the Enterprise's computer. The source of this high-tech nightmare turns out to be the holodeck, where a trainload of Orient Express passengers has suddenly appeared. These fabricated strangers may well hold the fate of the Enterprise in their hands, as the starship slowly develops a deadly intelligence of its own. Veteran character actor David Huddleston guest stars as the holodeck-generated train conductor. While attempting to clean up the damage, Picard and the remaining personnel must also contend with a band of interstellar hijackers. Marie Marshall guest stars as Kelsey, the devil-may-care leader of the crooks. Gerald S. O'Loughlin guest stars as Ben Oliver, a former Army buddy of Cabot Cove physician Seth Hazlitt (William Windom). Arriving in town to pay Seth a visit, Ben is clearly carrying around a great deal of emotional baggage. Subsequently, Ben's new boss is murdered, and Ben is implicated in the crime. After getting his start as a visual effects artist on the original Star Wars trilogy, Spielberg protege Joe Johnston found success as a director with his debut film, the blockbuster family adventure Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. For his sophomore outing, Johnston helmed this action-adventurer, set in 1930s Hollywood and in the spirit of old pulp comics and adventure serials, and co-adapted from the David Stevens graphic novel by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo. Bill Campbell stars as Cliff Secord, an eager young pilot who finds himself in possession of a secret jet-pack that gives him the ability to fly. Cliff soon learns that screen-star Neville Sinclair (Timothy Dalton) will stop at nothing to get his hands on the rocket pack so he can give it to the Nazis. As The Rocketeer and with a little help from his mechanic friend played by Alan Arkin, it's up to Cliff to elude Sinclair, defeat the Nazis, and save his girlfriend Jenny (Jennifer Connelly). ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

A humorous and skilful parody of the cliches and plot contrivances of 50's horror films, this monster movie is set in California, where closets can be large and quite important. The monster (Kevin Peter Hall) is straight out of Alien, if not quite as gruesome. It hides out in closets and wait for victims to unsuspectingly grab a shirt or slacks. After several closet deaths, a San Francisco obituary writer (Donald Grant) is sent to cover the story. He soon teams up with a science teacher (Denise DuBarry) and her son, a super-smart child prodigy, and they set out to solve the murders. The plot thickens when the gruff, brash Gen. Turnbull (Donald Moffat) enters the picture. It seems the monster is bullet-proof, laser-proof and bomb-proof -- a challenge to capture, kill, or subdue. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Tom Hanks stars in this raunchy teen comedy from veteran screenwriters Pat Proft and Neil Israel, who had previously collaborated on the amusing sketch film Tunnelvision (1976) and the disappointing Americathon (1980). Bus-driver Rick Gasko (Hanks) is engaged to wealthy Debbie Thompson (Tawny Kitaen), much to the chagrin of her father (George Grizzard), who considers Rick a loser. To keep an eye on her future groom, Debbie and her friends dress as prostitutes to attend his bachelor party, which quickly turns into a bacchanal of smutty debauchery. Familiar faces in the cast include action stars Michael Dudikoff and Ji-Tu Cimbuka, pin-ups Monique Gabrielle and Rosanne Katon, and teen-movie regulars Adrian Zmed and Wendie Jo Sperber. It's an occasionally hilarious excursion into bad taste, although one which two-time Oscar winner Hanks would probably like to forget. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Everyone at the 4077th is celebrating Halloween with a lavish costume party at Rosie's bar--everyone but Charles (David Ogden Stiers), who is not only still on duty, but also hates and despises the so-called holiday. Before the inevitable crisis in which the colorfully garbed staffers pack the O.R., a round-robin session of ghost stories has spines a-shivering (even Charles'); Father Mulcahy must contend with a real-life horror; and an anoxeric patient (Richard Lineback) invokes the "ghosts" which haunt his conscience.
