So, will she make the same choices again, or will she follow her heart instead of her head the second time around? Literally "torn from today's headlines," this made-for-cable drama recounts the sordid story of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster (here played by Jason Gedrick), who, over a period of several years, used the "date-rape" drug GHB to render several impressionable young woman unconscious, at which point he raped them while a video camera recorded his assaults. Galvanized by Luster's first victim, herein identified only as Connie Doe (Marla Sokoloff), two other girls who had been drugged and ravished by the wealthy predator joined Connie in bringing about legal action against him. Although the girls were forced to relive their horrendous experiences during testimony, their combined efforts so moved the jury that Luster was convicted on 86 criminal charges and sentenced to 124 years in prison. At the time this film went into production, the real-life Luster was fugitive from justice; escaping from house arrest and skipping off to parts unknown, he was tried and convicted in absentia. In June of 2003, one week before filming on A Date With Darkness wrapped, Luster was recaptured in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, by bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman (played in the film by an uncredited stunt man). This necessitated a hasty rewrite of the film's final scenes and an equally hasty refilming (as evidenced by the patently false beard on the face of actor Jason Gedrick). In its final form, A Date With Darkness: The Trial and Capture of Andrew Luster debuted August 11, 2003, on the Lifetime Network; the telecast was followed by an impassioned warning against the dangers of GHB, delivered by the film's co-star, Marla Sokoloff. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Susan Seidelman directs this critically acclaimed made-for-cable TV movie based on the novel by Zena Collier. A nasty divorce leaves one-time housewife Iris Prue (Sally Field) in unstable financial circumstances, forcing her to accept a demeaning job as live-in housekeeper to the family of imperious, snooty Paula Tanner (Judy Davis). Slowly rebuilding her life in the small Maine town where she's employed by the Tanners, Iris makes new friends and even strikes up a romance with an artist named Jack (Winston Rekert). When Paula is left by her own husband and undergoes a psychological crisis as a result, Iris is surprised to find herself befriending the employer with whom she once clashed, and an unexpected friendship blooms. Jerry Wasserman, Jessalyn Gilsig, and Carly Pope co-star. In the conclusion of a two-part story, the Tok'ra, a Goa'uld resistence movement, turns down the opportunity to allign with Stargate Command. Meanwhile, Jacob Carter (Carmen Agenziano), cancer-ridden father of SG-1 team member Amanda Carter (Amanda Tapping), is on the verge of death. Things brighten up when the Tok'ra agrees to fight alongside SG-1 provided that Jacob agree to serve as the host body for Tok'ra warrior Selmak, who is likewise at death's door. Though the two entities don't get along, Jacob and Selmak realize that each one's survival depends upon the other. The plot take a sinister turn when a spy betrays the Tok'ra to the Goa'uld. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Yuppie couple Denise Harris (Alyssa Milano) and Roger Lewis (Cameron Bancroft) get it in their wee little heads to head off to Alaska, there to work a gold mine some 75 miles away from civilization, At first, Denise and Roger revel in their exotic new surroundings, but before long the weather goes from cold to really cold, the supplies run out, and all contact with the outside world is cut off. Are the two city-dwellers prepared to endure the ordeal of making their way back to town or will they end up a pair of frozen Yuppie-sickles? In one of the big dramatic moments, the starving Denise and Roger seriously consider eating their pet dog; one suspects that this idea is borne of jealousy, since the dog gives the film's best performance. The made-for-TV Falling From the Sky: Flight 174 was based on a true story that occurred high over Canada in July of 1983. While en route from Montreal to Edmonton, a brand-new Boeing 767 runs out of fuel in mid-flight. With only a cursory knowledge of the jet's inner works, the crew is forced to desperately improvise a means of rescuing the passengers by gliding the aircraft to a runway in Winnipeg--35 miles away. Although the actual story has enough inherent drama for five TV movies, the producers felt the necessity to add a few overly melodramatic touches to heighten the suspense; also, aviation enthusiasts weren't too happy with the script's inaccuracies, nor were movie purists impressed by the surprisingly shoddy computer enhanced special effects. Nonetheless, the film boasts excellent performances, especially from William Devine as Captain Bob Pearson. First broadcast by ABC on February 20, 1995, Falling From the Sky was adapted from William and Marilyn Hoffer's book Freefall, and has since been retitled Freefall: Flight 174 for cable-TV play. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Glory! Glory! is a "roman a clef" of the Evangelism industry, with all the names fictionalized but with all characters easily recognizable to anyone who's ever watched a religious UHF channel. Barry Morse portrays a radio preacher whose operation is controlled by his honest but colorless son Richard Thomas. When Morse is promoted into a media superstar by savvy huckster James Whitmore, the son is left behind. All this changes when Thomas wanders into a bar and witnesses the performance of rock singer Ellen Greene. Greene's song Sister Ruth may be just what Thomas needs to rise to the top of his calling. Originally telecast in two parts over the HBO Pay-Cable service, Glory! Glory! closes out Part One with Ms. Greene becoming a powerful evangelist in her own right...a status quo subject to change when certain truths are made public. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Aimed primarily at the television audience, this somewhat predictable prison drama centers on Danny Baker (Winston Rekert), a lifer put into solitary confinement. Though shut off from most of the outside world, Baker supplies needed information to Joan Tremblay (Andrée Pelletier) in her fight against the practice of isolating prisoners for long periods of time. After Danny is released from solitary, he is falsely accused of having drugs and is about to be sent back to the same confinement. Threatened, he and a few others take Tremblay hostage to protest the use of solitary as punishment -- a risk that does not bode well for anyone concerned. The stereotyped dialogue in this uneven film is set against some gruesome prison scenes, meant to underscore the inhumanity of prison conditions in general. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

This anthology film is comprised of six segments shot by four female directors. "Love from the Marketplace," explores the way food relates to love. "The Black Cat in the Black Mouse Socks" stars singer Joni Mitchell, who also wrote it and its music. "Julia" tells the tail of a vanquished affair that is renewed. In "Love on Your Birthday" a wife gives her husband a night with her best friend as a birthday present. She then gets jealous and the trouble begins. "Por Vida" follows the journey home of a WW II GI. "Parting" follows the love of an elderly man for his paralyzed wife. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Sexual obsession provides the basis of this taut thriller, an adaptation of a Romain Gary novel. The story centers upon a prominent financier who must fight to save his crumbling business empire and his rapidly fading manhood. The obsession begins when the impotent magnate begins dreaming that a handsome gypsy is making love to his much younger girlfriend. He cannot get the dream out of his head and so goes to a Parisian madam to see if he can make the fantasy real. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
