A television producer whose ego is bigger than his talent sets out to take reality television where it has not yet dared to go in this mockumentary comedy. Warren Piece (Isaak James) has earned a reputation as one of the boldest and least scrupulous behind-the-scenes men in television, and he's known for bullying his equally shameless associates Laura (Eva James) and David (Michael C. Kricfalusi). With Laura and David's help, Warren pitches his latest brainstorm to a struggling cable network, and to everyone's surprise he gets a green light to launch "Handicaps," a talent showcase for people with physical or psychological disabilities. As a parade of allegedly talented people in wheelchairs, on crutches or with other challenges pass before Piece and his staff, folks at the network begin to wonder if the show is such a good idea after all -- and how they're going to pay for some of the producer's more grandiose notions. Special Needs was the first feature film from Isaak James, who served as writer, producer, editor and director as well as leading man. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
