Two friends fight over a woman who isn't especially interested in either of them in this musical comedy from India. Samir (Salman Khan) is a good-looking lifeguard who could have his pick of any girl on the beach; however, he only has eyes for Rani (Priyanka Chopra), a beautiful woman who lives in the same apartment building as him. Rami is trying to establish herself as a designer, and her romance takes a back seat to her career, at least for now. This doesn't stop Samir from trying to win her heart, but he soon discovers he has competition -- his friend and roommate, Sunny (Akshay Kumar), has also fallen for Rami and is doing his darndest to steal her out from under his buddy. Both men have to contend not only with a resistant woman but her eccentric father (Amrish Puri), who doesn't believe that any man is good enough for his daughter. In this thriller from India, Shankar (Shah Rukh Khan) is a mute servant of Rajasaab (Amrish Puri). Shankar is a loyal follower, however, he falls in love with his master's wife, Gauri (Madhuri Dixit). When Shankar and Gauri run off, Shankar is thrown from a cliff and left for dead, and Gauri is sold to a bordello. Shankar is found by a native and is slowly nursed back to health. Having also regained his ability to speak, Shankar returns to Rajasaab to rescue Gauri and get revenge. Koyla is based on the 1990 Tony Scott film Revenge, which itself is an adaptation of a novella by Jim Harrison.

When the fiancée of a wealthy and powerful man falls hopelessly in love with the son of one of her future husband's employees, the forbidden couple is forced to flee to Bombay in fear for their lives. Enraged that his beautiful bride-to-be Naina would fall for simple employee's son Karan, Thakur Digvijay Singh announces a reward for the bounty hunter who succeeds in delivering Karan's head, and bringing Naina back unharmed. Set in the walled North Indian city of Delhi, this lavish melodrama of a popular thumari singer's life and accidental death is based on a true story. Her tragic tale is framed by that of newspaper reporter Tehzeeb Abbasi, who has come near the singer's home to investigate a terrible riot between Hindus and Muslims during which singer Sardari Begum was fatally injured with a flying rock. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (Brave Heart Will Take the Bride) was a huge hit in India, and won all the major Filmfare Awards. It was also the film that catapulted Shahrukh Khan to Bollywood superstardom, and it was the first of several successful pairings of Khan and Kajol. Khan plays Raj, a likeably goofy rich Indian boy, brought up in London, who's had everything handed to him in life. Kajol is Simran, a proper Indian girl who also lives in London. Her stern father (Amrish Puri) has arranged for her to go to back to his sorely missed homeland in Punjab to marry the son of an old friend. Simran persuades the old man to let her go off on a month-long trip to Europe with her girlfriends before she weds. On the trip, Simran meets Raj, and naturally they don't get along at first. He humiliates her with his pranks, and she refuses to loosen up. Then they get stranded together, get drunk together, sing and dance together, and begin to develop feelings for each other. They return to London, each hoping the other will express his/her love. They part, and when Simran's father overhears her telling her mother (Farida Jalal) about Raj, he gets angry and demands that they leave for India immediately. But Raj follows them there, determined to win over Simran's father and take Simran as his bride. He ingratiates himself with the dimwitted groom, Kuljit (Parmeet Sethi), and enters the household as his friend. Things get even more complicated when Kuljit's family mistakenly believes that Raj is interested in the groom's sister, and they begin to plan a double wedding. The terrorism running rampant in modern India provides the basis of this powerfully provocative and violent Indian thriller. The story centers on Abhay Singh, an interrogations expert who works with the anti-terrorist squad, and his partner Abbvas Lodhi who are assigned to head a highly classified operation to infiltrate a particularly dangerous group of terrorists. The two leaders in turn assign two rookies to actually get into the group. Three years pass. One of the spies is killed, and the other has become a deputy within the group. He works under Bhadra. When Bhadra orders the terrorists to attack a busy marketplace and kill many innocent people, the police finally order arrests to be made and during the raid, they capture Bhadra without realizing his identity and rank. During interrogation, Bhadra reveals that the police have been betrayed and now some of them are in terrible danger. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
