A natural disaster turns out to be a very artificial bit of outer space treachery in this episode of the sci-fi television series tar Trek: Voyager. A steady shower of asteroids has been raining down upon the home planet of the Ness, and the crew of the Voyager have offered to help them find a solution to this disastrous barrage. However, their attempts to vaporize the asteroids have not gone well, and they send a research time to the planet while the Ness ambassador is brought aboard the Voyager. r. Vat (om Towles), a scientist working on the asteroid project, needs to reach the Voyager to speak with the ambassador, but when the crew attempts to arrange transportation to the ship, they discover he attempted to leave on his own; r. Vatm seems confused and out of sorts, and soon dies after drinking water which turned out to be poisoned. Amidst all the confusion, it is learned that the asteroid shower was not a natural occurrence, but the handiwork of one of the Nezu's enemies. Julia Cole (Diane Salinger) is more than a little upset about turning 40. She's depressed about growing older, distressed at the lack of attention from her workaholic husband Charles (John Calvin), and bored with being a stay-at-home wife and mother. On her birthday, she finds a bottle of enchanted soap bubbles. Blowing them transports her to moments of happiness from earlier times in her life. Soon, she not only regains her youthful vigor, she cannot even remember how old she is. She changes her appearance, her personality is transformed from reclusive to outgoing, and her values change from strict to permissive. Eventually, she realizes that happiness is not age-dependent. Kathleen Turner stars as V.I. Warshawski in Jeff Kanew's film version of the hard-boiled detective character from Sara Paretsky's series of crime novels. Warshawski is a freelance private investigator in Chicago, who lives the part of the hard-boiled detective. But in her heart of hearts, she is a softy. One night, while she is drinking at her favorite bar, she meets an ex-Blackhawks hockey player named Boom-Boom Grafalk (Stephen Meadows). The two connect and a romance appears to be in the making. But Warshawski is nevertheless surprised when Boom-Boom appears at her doorstep later that night with his 13-year-old daughter, Kat (Angela Goethals) in tow. He asks Warshawski if she could watch her and Warshawski agrees. Later that night, Boom-Boom is killed in a boat explosion and Kit hires Warshawski to track down her father's killer. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

Neil Simon forgoes his typical urban East Coast kvetchers and replaces them with sunny Californian kvetchers in The Marrying Man, a film which became a beacon of gossip in 1991 due to the alleged shenanigans of stars Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger), who fell in love during production. Simon based his script on a true story concerning the love affair between shoe tycoon Harry Karl and actress Marie (The Body) McDonald during the 1950s. Married to each other four times, McDonald still managed to carry on an affair with mobster Bugsy Siegel. In this Simon-ized version, Baldwin plays Charley Pearl, a sharp and handsome Hollywood millionaire, engaged to Adele Horner (Elisabeth Shue), the daughter of dyspeptic movie studio executive Lew Horner (Robert Loggia). The day before their wedding, Charley heads off to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, and in a sleazy casino on the outskirts of town, he sets his eyes on sexy singer Vicki Anderson (Basinger) and falls for her hard. He wants her immediately and even though she warns him she's the property of Bugsy Siegel (Armand Assante), he crawls into her bedroom window to be with her. Caught with his pants down by Siegel, Bugsy, instead of killing him, forces him to marry Vicki ("I was about to dump her anyway," he says). But after their marriage, Charley and Vicki discover they're more attracted to the danger of their relationship than in each other. Charley's friends -- Phil (Paul Reiser), Sammy (Fisher Stevens), Tony (Peter Dobson), and George (Steve Hytner) -- form a Greek chorus commenting on the crazed love affair and are reportedly inspired by Phil Silvers, Sammy Cahn, Tony Martin, and Leo Durocher. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

The LAPD Internal Affairs Division takes a special interest in the murder of a mob accountant. Perusing the dead man's list of debtors, the Division finds the name "C. Devane"--which of course happens to match up with the name of Hunter's superior officer. Though Captain Devane (Charles Hallahan laughs off the implication that he might be even peripherally associated with the Mob, the ensuing investigation is no laughing matter, especially to Hunter (Fred Dryer). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Rachel (Leah Ayres Hendrix) is a country girl who comes to Los Angeles to visit her sister Abby (Shari Shattuck) in this murder mystery. When Abby is discovered murdered, Rachel goes pub crawling through the seedy watering holes and strip clubs to find the killer.
