A group of miners on an excursion into the Gold Spike Mine fall prey to a man-eating monster in this obscure 1980 horror oddity from director David Michael Hillman. They were warned by the old-time prospectors to stay far away from the caves, but when greed takes precedence over good judgment, the body count begins to multiply. It's been years since the creature has enjoyed a fresh meal, and with a tunnel full of delicious miners to savor, who can blame the starving beast from indulging in a rare feast? ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
Although penned by the same screenwriter, David S. Ward, this sequel to The Sting (1973) is tarnished by comparisons to its predecessor. Jackie Gleason fills the shoes of Paul Newman as Harry Gondorff and Mac Davis slips into the Robert Redford role of Johnny Hooker, two con men pals whose latest "sting" involves Hooker pretending to be a down on his luck boxer. Their goal is the fixing of a prizefight, which will rook a tacky nightclub owner (Karl Malden) out of a fortune while simultaneously getting revenge on their old nemesis, Doyle Lonnegan (Oliver Reed). On their side is Veronica (Teri Garr), a seasoned scam artist, but what Gondorff and Hooker don't know is that Lonnegan is manipulating events behind the scenes. Director Jeremy Paul Kagan followed up this terribly unfunny and inferior sequel with the much better received The Journey of Natty Gann (1985), while Ward became a director of such comedies as Major League (1989) and King Ralph (1991). ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Dick Van Dyke is the Drop-Out Father in this lighthearted TV movie. A successful but unsatisfied insurance executive, Van Dyke decides one day to kick over the traces. As his wife (Mariette Hartley) and family listen in fascinated horror, our hero announces his plans to move from the suburbs to a Manhattan loft, there to "find himself." With the exception of his loyal youngest daughter, Van Dyke's family elects to stay put, permitting him to carve out a new life on his own. Peter Matz won an Emmy nomination for his sprightly musical score. Originally telecast September 17, 1982, Drop-Out Father was followed in 1988 by a made-for-TV sequel, innovatively titled Drop-Out Mother. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
This unfunny attempt at sexual comedy looks at the adventures of five different couples spending one night in a cheap motel. A 300-pound fullback is still a virgin and will be losing that distinction thanks to the hooker he has hired for the night, while a couple unfaithful to each other quibble over the lousy accommodations -- in skits much like those of the TV series, Love, American Style. Phyllis Diller and Slim Pickens are the motel managers. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
