Pineapple Express co-stars Danny McBride and James Franco reunite for director David Gordon Green's fantasy comedy Your Highness, which sends up such beloved '80s gems as Krull and The Sword and the Sorcerer. Thadeous (McBride) has always stood in the shadow of his older brother, Fabious (Franco), a fearless knight who never met a Minotaur he couldn't slay or a warlord he couldn't defeat. Meanwhile, as Fabious embarked on incredible adventures and returned home to lavish celebrations, Thadeous puffed on wizard's weed, and spent his nights in the company of loose maidens. But Thadeous' life of luxury comes to an abrupt end when powerful wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux) shows up and abducts Fabious' beautiful fiancée, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel). Now threatened with being cut off from the family fortune by his father, the king (Charles Dance), Thadeous reluctantly agrees to join Fabious on a treacherous quest to rescue the fair maiden, and defeat Leezar once and for all. Their voyage to rescue Belladonna will be marked by incredible adventure and unprecedented danger, but together with the help of a fearless warrior named Isabel (Natalie Portman) the two brothers will battle mythical beasts and villainous knights. Alan Rickman and Janeane Garofalo headline writer/director Mike Binder's comedy about an American businessman who is summoned to London under the auspice of overseeing an impending business merger, only to discover that he is actually being groomed to replace his British counterpart - who unfortunately has no intentions of giving up his job. Matthew Barnes (Binder) and his wife (Garofalo) thought they were going to London for a brief business trip, little did they realize Matthew's employer had something a bit more permanent in mind. It seems that the powers that be would like to see Matthew's British counterpart John Gissing (Rickman) fired, and would love for Matthew to step in as his official replacement. But John is no dummy, and he's seen this storm brewing on the horizon for quite some time. Per its title, director Richard Bracewell's low-key, über-British dramedy The Gigolos concerns itself with two male employees of a London-based escort service for women. The picture, however, places far greater emphasis on investigating the relationship between the men per se than it does on exploring the dynamics between the hired companions and their female clients. Sacha Tarter stars as Sacha, a male escort for a firm that caters to affluent society women. Most are middle aged, a few elderly. He is paid to provide them with classy evenings out, and occasional sex upon request. Sacha's "gent" (or pimp/manager), Trevor (Trevor Sather) arranges Sacha's dates and uses his own excellent taste (in food, wine, flowers, and various accoutremenets) to select gifts for Sacha's clients, but is a klutz when it comes to his own personal interaction with women. When Sacha) twists his ankle during an evening out with a fashion designer, Tessa Harrington (screen legend Susannah York), Trevor must temporarily tend to his clients. As Trevor's social skills improve, however, and evenings go supremely well, he begins to fancy himself an escort and steals several of Sacha's clients for himself. This TV adaptation of George Elliot's 1861 novel Silas Marner was one of the rare single-episode presentations of PBS' Masterpiece Theatre. Ben Kingsley plays Silas Marner, who after being falsely accused of a crime and banished from his own town, becomes a miserly recluse in the small British community of Raveloe. When his precious cache of money is stolen by the town wastrel (Jonathan Coy) Silas can see no reason for going on with life. He is transformed from misanthrope to rehabilitated human being through the love of Eppie, an orphaned child left in his care. Patsy Kensit is featured as the grown-up Eppie. Alec Guinness plays against stereotype, imbuing his Adolf Hitler with an introverted solemnity in Ennio De Concini's Hitler: The Last Ten Days. Set almost entirely inside Hitler's Berlin bunker, the film chronicles the dying days of the Third Reich as the Allied armies close in on Berlin. While still starring in Bonanza, Lorne Greene took a sabbatical from the Ponderosa to headline this made for TV espionage thriller. Greene portrays a Russian secret agent whisked away from his comfortable retirement in Moscow to undertake a sabotage job in London. He finds himself compelled to solve the mysterious death of the British scientist whose invention Greene was supposed to destroy. The key to the mystery appears to be the cryptic phrase "The Gaunt Woman" (which was the title of the John Blackburn novel upon which this film was based. Filmed in London, Destiny of a Spy did well in the ratings thanks to the novelty casting of Lorne Greene as a Communist functionary. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
