A hipster tries to sort out the relationship between love, commerce and partying in this self-described "pop art film" from writer and director Alex Munt. Goodchild (Toby Schmitz) is a writer living in Paris who is deeply devoted to alcohol and cynicism. Goodchild was born and raised in Australia, and when he gets word that his former girlfriend, now known to him as The Dead Girl (Gracie Otto), is indeed dead, he comes home for the first time in years for the funeral. While attending the memorial, Goodchild meets The Beautiful Financial Backer (Bianca Chiminello), an attractive woman intrigued by his work. The Backer is willing to pay Goodchild to write a book for her, an think piece called "The Love Enterprise" that explores how modern corporate culture has corrupted the most personal of human emotions. As Goodchild contemplates the offer, he hangs out in rock clubs, soaks up lots of booze and drugs, shares his opinions on a wide variety of subjects, and struggles to avoid actually writing anything. Adapted from the novel Life Between F--ks by Cry Bloxcome, LBF received its world premiere at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A would-be superhero meets his soul mate in this quirky comedy drama from Australia. Griff (Ryan Kwanten) spends his days working in an office, where he fields customer complaints and dodges Tony (Toby Schmitz), an obnoxious co-worker who enjoys making awkward Griff the butt of his mean-spirited jokes. What Tony doesn't know, though, is that Griff has a rich secret life as an invisible crime-fighter who patrols the city defending the innocent. Of course, the few who know about Griff's other identity are convinced he's deeply delusional, and his brother Tim (Patrick Brammall) has even moved into the neighborhood to keep an eye on him in case Griff seriously hurts himself in the midst of his exploits. But when Griff meets Melody (Maeve Dermody), he thinks he's finally discovered someone who understands him; Melody is a student of quantum physics and believes that people should be able to pass through solid barriers if the circumstances are right. Together, can these gentle eccentrics find love, or are they too much of a danger to themselves? Griff the Invisible was the first feature film from director Leon Ford. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A trio of sailors about to be sent off to war hit the town for one last party in this semi-improvised drama from actor and filmmaker Matthew Newton. Sam (Ewen Leslie), Dean (Toby Schmitz), and Harry (Matthew Newton) are members of the Australian Navy who have orders to board the HMAS Dignity and set sail for duty that will eventually send them to Iraq. With 24 hours of liberty before they report for duty, Harry suggests they hit Sydney and party. However, despite plenty of booze and a visit from some friendly hookers, it's hard for the men to relax and enjoy themselves. Sam isn't sure he can handle the stress of war, and has a one-night stand with a waitress (Gracie Otto) while wondering if he'd be better off deserting. Dean takes some time out for a dinner with his wife-to-be and her folks, but drinking loosens his tongue and he says some things he should have kept to himself. And Harry, the wild man of the group, doesn't seem so jovial when his day comes to a close. Three Blind Mice received its world premiere at the 2008 Sydney Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
