Roddy Piper
Two happily married expectant parents get more than they bargained for after hiring a free-spirited Ukrainian housekeeper to help clean up their suburban palace in Killer Wave director Kevin Connor's playful domestic comedy. Marsha and David McMillan (Cynthia Preston and Larry Dorf) are about to have their first child, yet despite their excitement at the prospect of becoming parents, their home is in a hopeless state of disarray. Realizing that their only hope for tidying up before the big arrival is to hire an experienced housekeeper, Marsha and David agree to give the job to voluptuous Ukranian Sophia Petrenko (Alla Korot). When the infectiously friendly housekeeper begins inviting her relatives from the old country to come experience the good life in America, however, Marsha and David find their home overtaken by strangers just at the time when it should be getting baby-proofed. If Damon Runyon, the author of the story on which The Three Wise Guys was based, were to summarize it, it might sound something like this: One December day around Christmastime I am in the city of Las Vegas talking to Harry the Horse about this and that, when I hear this yarn about a citizen by the name of Murray Crown (Tom Arnold), who runs a clip joint which he prefers to call a casino. It seems that this Murray Crown not only has the John Laws breathing down his neck, but it is also a fact that he is married to this doll called Shirley (Katey Sagal), who is known far and wide as the green-eyed type. In addition, it seems that there is another doll by the name of Mary Ann Davidson (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe), who has gotten herself in the family way courtesy of Murray, and who has taken a powder into the desert holding a computer disk containing the low-down on Murray's operation. These being the conditions that prevail, sweet Mary could very well send Murray up the river for a more than somewhat long semester. So Murray hires these three torpedoes called Joey (Eddie McClintock), George (Judd Nelson), and Vincent (Nick Turturro) to chase after Mary and button the doll's lip on a permanent basis....By the time this made-for-TV opus has galloped into the home stretch, it is a probable twelve to seven that Mary will have wrapped the three torpedoes around her little finger, and that a Merry Christmas will be had by all. Mooched from a story by Runyon from which an earlier theatrical feature had been sired way back in 1936, Three Wise Guys first showed up on the USA network menu on the evening of December 8, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Former Evening Shade costars Burt Reynolds and Charles Durning are reunited in this made-for-TV action thriller, the first entry in a three-picture deal between star-director Reynolds and the TNT cable network. Framed for murder after a botch stakeout, maverick cop Logan McQueen (Reynolds) escapes from maximum security and heads to Miami in search of the man who set him up. He is hotly pursued by the minions of a politically ambitious DA (Billy Dee Williams), who sees McQueen's capture as a stepping-stone to the governor's mansion. The film is so spectacularly violent that the cameo appearance by pro wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper seems a model of decorum in comparison. And Durning? He plays McQueen's ageing partner, as fast with a quip as with a gun. Originally telecast on December 13, 1998, Hard Time was followed by a brace of sequels. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper is Back in Action in this likeable testosterone-driven adventure. Piper plays a hard-bitten L.A. detective, whose partner is murdered by drug dealers. To bring the villains to heel, the detective teams up with a martial-arts whiz (Billy Blanks), whose sister has fallen in with the drug lords. After the usual "I don't like you and you don't like me" palaver, Piper and Blanks combine their considerable self-defense skills to kick a lot of LaLa-land butt. It ain't Hamlet, but it's a lot of fun. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Careful, parents: this one's Immortal Combat, not Mortal Kombat. And it's R-rated, too. Even so, the young fans of wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper will probably find some way to get this on their TV screen. Together with the equally musclebound Sonny Chiba, Piper takes on a battalion of seemingly indestructible martial-arts bad guys. The lovely and talented Meg Foster supplies acting relief (well that's not really fair; Piper and Chiba are very good at what they do). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the water again, along came the "retro" TV movie The Love Boat: A Valentine Voyage. Four regulars of the original Love Boat series are back on board: Gavin McLeod ($Capt Stubbing), Bernie Kopell (Doc), Ted Lange (Isaac) and Jill Whelan (Vicki). Filmed on location in the Carribean, the plotline accommodates the usual quota of guest stars, in this cast Ted Shackleford, Shanna Reed, Joe Regalbuto, Tom Bosley, Julia Duffy, Steve Bond, and wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. The story concerns a gang of eccentric jewel thieves, who set about divesting the passengers of their valuables while said passengers are out frolicking on deck and on shore. The TV Guide had it right on the money when commenting that a film of this nature "defies criticism". Love Boat: A Valentine Voyage premiered February 12, 1990. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
