Two dogs and a cat, separated from their human family, must find their way home and face the dangers of a big city for the first time in this adventure story for the whole family. Bob Seaver (Robert Hays) and his wife Laura (Kim Greist), who live in Northern California, are taking their kids on a camping vacation in Canada, and they're bringing along their pets -- spunky bulldog Chance (voice of Michael J. Fox), self-centered Himalayan cat Sassy (voice of Sally Field), and wise old Golden Retriever Shadow (voice of Ralph Waite). However, Chance doesn't like being cooped up in his travelling cage at the airport, and when he escapes, Sassy and Shadow follow him to the nearest city, San Francisco. After a scary night on their own, the trio are befriended by a gang of stray dogs and cats who have learned to live on their own after running away from their cruel masters. However, Chance, Sassy, and Shadow soon realize that life on the streets is not for them, and they set out to find the Seaver house they call home. Sports fans take note: Bob Uecker, Tommy Lasorda, and Al Michaels appear as themselves and also provide the voices of their pets. The voice of Shadow was performed by Don Ameche in the preceding film Homeward Bound; it proved to be Ameche's last film released before his death in late 1993 (his final film, Corrina, Corrina, didn't reach theaters until several months after his passing), leading the producers of this sequel to cast Ralph Waite in the role. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A high-school reunion in a snowy New England town brings together a diverse band of former classmates. They include NYC pianist Willie Timothy Hutton who has found only small success playing night clubs and is considering taking a job as a supply salesman. While in town, Willie, who is having relationship problems with his girlfriend, finds himself becoming friends with 13 year-old Marty Natalie Portman. Then there's Tommy Matt Dillon, the aging jock who though seriously involved with Sharon Mira Sorvino, cannot resist the occasional walk down memory lane by sleeping with the former prom-queen Darian Lauren Holly, who is married but believes that her husband won't find out. Paul Michael Rapaport is dumped by his waitress girlfriend Jan Martha Plimpton, in part because of the swimsuit-clad supermodels plastered all over his walls. Paul then becomes attracted to Andera Uma Thurman, who is visiting her cousin Stinky Pruitt Taylor Vince, a local tavern owner. Also among the group -- Gina Rosie O'Donnell, who fancies herself a feminist counselor and who, in one of the film's highlights, delivers a poignant rant against how magazines present unrealistic images of women. ~ All Movie Guide

This little chiller unfolds like a late-night campfire ghost story as it tells the strange tale of treasure hunters and a prison break from a North Carolina prison farm. It begins when a man approaches two inmates at the prison farm and tells them about a fabulous treasure buried in the coffin of a wealthy but miserly merchant. The convicts, King and Tyn, want the treasure and so bribe a guard into letting them escape. They leave the man who told them about the cache back in the pen. While on the lam, Tyn gets shot trying to steal clothing from a laundry line and the two end up forced to bring in King's ex-lover and some old gang mates to help them find the grave. The guard then shows up and demands a share of the take and this creates all sorts of problems. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

For his first case after returning to active duty, Pembleton (Andre Braugher) joins Bayliss (Kyle Secor) in investigating the murder of a divorced woman and her two children, with the woman's ex-husband, an Annapolis naval officer as chief suspect. In other developments Lewis (Clark Johnson) and Munch (Richard Belzer) welcome the opportunity to pin a homicide rap on slippery drug kingpin Luther Mahoney (Erik Todd Dellums) -- especially since the prime witness is Mahoney's own nephew (played by future ER regular Mekhi Phifer). And Cox (Michelle Forbes) offers moral support to Kellerman (Reed Diamond) when he is summoned before the grand jury investigating corruption in the arson unit. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This episode introduces Michelle Forbes in the role of new chief medical examiner Julianna Cox. Descending upon a murder scene being investigated by Lewis (Clark Johnson) and Bayliss (Kyle Secor), the outspoken Cox makes no secret of her contempt for the detectives' methods of investigation. Meanwhile, the FBI probe of possible corruption in the arson unit so unnerves Kellerman (Reed Diamond) -- one of the Feds' chief targets -- that he begins lashing out at everyone close to him. Three homicide investigations -- involving a carjacking, a rape, and a bar fight -- are unfolded in a series of flashbacks from the viewpoint of both the homicide detectives and the victims' families, the latter having formed a support group. A surprise development occurs when the group welcomes a new member -- medical examiner Julianna Cox (Michelle Forbes). Season five of Homicide: Life on the Street begins with the departure of Captain Megan Russert, who has abruptly moved to Europe after falling for a French diplomat, and with the ascension to full "regular" status of former recurring character J.H. Brodie (Max Perlich), the Baltimore homicide division's official crime-scene photographer. Slowly recovering from the stroke that felled him at the end of season four, Frank Pembleton (Andre Braugher) returns to duty on a limited basis -- and with the warning that both he and Giardello (Yaphet Kotto) will suffer if he can't cut the mustard. Elsewhere, Bayliss (Kyle Secor) and Munch (Richard Belzer) wonder how to extract information from the sole witness to a murder -- the victim's pet pig. And in the main plot line, a deranged gunman who has already killed twice takes hostages at a Baltimore middle school, a crisis that will be carried over into the next episode. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This episode would seem to be the precursor to producer Tom Fontana's gritty cable TV series Oz. Most of the homicide detectives are dispatched to a maximum security prison, where two inmates have been killed in a riot. Surrounded by several of the criminals whom they put away in earlier episodes, the detectives follow a lead to the possible murderer -- but it turns out to be the wrong man, and more blood ends up being shed. Left behind at the precinct station is Frank Pembleton (Andre Braugher), who insists upon hurting his chances to fully recover from his stroke by practicing on the police firing range. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

An attorney found floating in a swimming pool appears to have suffered a heart attack. Before long, however, a man confesses to killing the attorney, giving up himself and an incriminating videotape to homicide detectives Pembleton (Andre Braugher) and Bayliss (Kyle Secor). Further complicating matters is the presence of the National Security Agency, who serve up a murder suspect of their own -- resulting in a major blowup by Bayliss. A radio talk show host who "dared" his audience to seek revenge for his volatile opinions is found murdered. Investigating the case, Giardello (Yaphet Kotto) and Howard (Melissa Leo) come up with a likely suspect -- or do they? In the conclusion of a two-part story, Baltimore cop Jake Rodzinski (Bruce Campbell) is the prime suspect in the murder of Kenny Damon, who had been acquitted on the charge of killing Jake's father. Kellerman (Reed Diamond) investigates the case, but withholds details of his findings from Jake's good friend Lewis (Clark Johnson). Although several years have passed, Bayliss (Kyle Secor) continues to be haunted by his first case on the Baltimore homicide unit: the unsolved rape and murder of young Adena Watson. When a 12-year-old girl is assaulted and killed in a manner resembling the Watson incident, Bayliss becomes obsessed with finding out if the crimes are linked -- leading to a bitter argument between himself and Pembleton (Andre Braugher). A gas leak at homicide headquarters forces the detectives to temporarily pitch camp at an old bank building, where several bad moods are quickly exacerbated. The many story developments this evening include the negative effect that Howard's (Melissa Leo) promotion has on her colleagues, and Giardello's (Yaphet Kotto) inadvertent dismissal of a key piece of evidence in the murder of an elderly woman.
