Cheryl and Greg are stunned by the news, and are unsure of what to do when they're told a bone marrow transplant will be needed to save their little girl's life. The parents discover Emily's birth father is Kurt (Michael Riley), a convicted criminal; he is one of the only people with the marrow needed for Emily's treatment, but Kurt happens to have made some enemies in the mob, and in exchange for saving his daughter's life, he begins making demands that Cheryl is in no position to meet. When an escaped convict is discovered hiding in a barn by two young children, he convinces the kids that he is a ghost while learning an important lesson in paying penance for his crimes. Witt Hampton was a convicted embezzler sentenced to year behind bars for his greedy transgressions. Eventually, Witt grows tired of prison life and stages a daring escape. Later, while seeking refuge in an old barn, Witt is discovered by two young boys. In order to avoid being sent back up the river, the frightened convict convinces the kids that he is actually a friendly ghost, and soon joins them on a series of fantastic adventures. Among the passengers on board the plane is a obnoxious wealthy executive, a celebrated athlete, a newlywed couple, an arrogant pilot, a murderer being transported for trial, and the lovely flight attendant, who is Hogan's old girlfriend (Alexandra Paul). Shortly after takeoff the cargo door blows off, rendering the pilot unconscious and Hogan has to pilot the uncontrollable plane to safety through a thunderstorm. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide

A man with an eye for beauty finds himself confronting the face of death in this thriller. One night, Gary discovers a woman named Elaine near the boathouse at his beachfront home; she's confused and looks badly beaten, and Elaine tells Gary she's been roughed up by her abusive boyfriend. Gary takes her in and gives her a place to stay while she heals. Noticing Elaine's natural beauty, Gary proposes taking some pictures of her, and before long he's transformed Elaine into a glamour girl with an international following. But after Elaine turns up dead, Gary begins to wonder if something is happening to him -- especially after he becomes the prime suspect in her murder. In this low-budget screwball-mystery, the death of an L.A. woman leads to a surreal murder investigation on the outer fringes of la-la land. When Molly McMannis (Justine Bateman) turns up dead, still impaled with the murder weapon -- a carrot -- the police launch a probe into the colorful world Molly inhabited. The suspects range from her ex-con brother to her roommate to her high-strung friend (Heather Graham). But a more likely culprit lurks among the ranks of a therapy group full of off-the-wall serial killers and the shrinks who coddle them. The fetishistic police detectives -- including sadistic interrogator Angela Pierce (Jill Hennessy) -- prove as disturbing as the people they're investigating. In fact, their unorthodox procedures leave the door open for the killer to strike again. Written, produced, and directed by Jordan Alan, who previously helmed the similarly offbeat Love and Happiness, Kiss and Tell features a who's who of obscure and indie Hollywood talent, including veteran actor Lewis Arquette and his three famous sons. ~ Brian J. Joe Dante's original Piranha (1979) was a small gem, a clever parody of and homage to the numerous eco-kill pictures which followed in the wake of Jaws (1975). It featured a witty script by then little-known screenwriter John Sayles (Lone Star) and a great cast including Paul Bartel, Dick Miller, and Barbara Steele. This made-for-cable remake, however, is an abomination. It was as if director Scott Levy set out to make the original, scene-by-scene, only without benefit of a good cast and script. Screenwriter Alex Simon seems to have intentionally removed any trace of the sly, knowing humor of Sayles in favor of maudlin stock dialogue mouthed by mannequin-like drones. William Katt delivers a tedious performance which makes Bradford Dillman's work in the first Piranha look like art, and the sluggish Alexandra Paul's female lead is only a shadow of Heather Menzies, which is pretty difficult to imagine. The makeup by John Carl Buechler can't hold a candle to the craftsmanship of Rob Bottin's work in the original, either. About the only thing this disaster has going for it is a fairly interesting song called "Killer Mutant Piranhas," performed over the closing credits by Uncle Dog Food. The rest of the film is like watching a dull summary of the original rather than a real movie. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
