Adrian Paul Movies

As ruggedly handsome as the men on the cover of romance novels, Adrian Paul is a television heartthrob to legions of swooning fans. As the kilt-wearing Scottish swordsman Duncan MacLeod on TV's The Highlander, he prefers to do his own stunts when he can. Born and raised in England, he came to the U.S. in the '80s as a model and dancer, but also excelled at soccer, martial arts, and choreography. His first role was as a ballet dancer on the TV series The Colbys. After playing Prospero in The Masque of the Red Death, he briefly joined the casts of both the '90s revival of Dark Shadows and War of the Worlds. As the star of The Highlander TV series from 1992 to 1997, he also reprised the role in the movies Highlander: The Gathering and Highlander: Endgame. After the series was canceled, he had starring roles in the feature-length thrillers Dead Men Can't Dance, Susan's Plan, Convergence, and The Breed. Returning to the fantasy-action genre, he played Sir Lancelot in the 2000 U.K. production of Merlin: The Return. In 2001, he starred in the straight-to-video release The Void, the action-packed Storm Watch with Coolio, and the thriller Nemesis Game. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi

Veteran sci-fi and action stalwart Mark L. Lester (Commando, Class of 1984) helms this period supernatural horror opus, inspired by one of history's oddest mysteries: the question of what happened to the "Lost Colony" of Roanoke Island in 1587. In Lester's version of the tale, three demonic witches arise from the netherworld to claim the settlers, and attack the soldiers from multiple directions. The spirits include the Witch Wraith, who exerts apocalyptic control over the nearby forest; the Viking Wraith, who slices through the front lines with a broadsword, and the Reaper Wraith, who disembowels victims with a scythe. As devastation erupts and the colonists meet gory ends, hope arises in the form of Ananias Dare, who valiantly attempts to decipher the enigma of the wraiths, exploit their Achilles' Heel, and send the vile spirits back to the fiery cauldron of Hell. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

In the sixth and final season of Highlander, handsome 400-year-old Immortal Duncan MacLeod has returned to Paris determined to avenge the beheading of his close friend and fellow Immortal, Richie -- an act accidentally performed by Duncan but caused by evil demon Ahriman. Having given up his sword since Richie's demise, Duncan uses other methods to vanquish Ahriman -- and in so doing, he proves to himself that an Immortal can exist in modern times without having to fall back upon bloodshed. Somewhat relieved that he no longer has to kill to survive, Duncan feels free to pursue his romance with another Immortal, the beautiful Amanda Darieux (Elizabeth Gracen, now listed as one of the series' stars, as is Peter Wingfield in the previously recurring role of Methos, the World's Oldest Man). Alas, the couple's happiness is short-lived; along with Duncan's mortal friend Joe Dawson (Jim Byrnes), Amanda is kidnapped and transported to another dimension by a vengeful Immortal who has vowed to destroy Duncan once and for all. Curiously, this situation leads to a series finale straight out of It's a Wonderful Life -- and in context, it all makes sense! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Season five of Highlander has quite a few shocks and surprises in store for handsome, 400-year-old Immortal Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul). For several seasons, Duncan has known Adam Pierson (Peter Wingfield), a member of The Watchers, which is an ancient order of mortals foresworn to hunt down and destroy all evil Immortals. All this time, Adam has claimed it was his job to confirm the existence of Methos, the world's oldest man, and a member of the "Four Horseman," one of the most feared of all Evil Immortal conclaves. Now it is revealed that Adam is in fact Methos himself -- but before any damage can be done, he proves to Duncan that he is "reformed" and thus the two become close friends. But all is not well in the Immortal world. A villainous entity named Ahriman manages to trick MacLeod into a grisly act -- that of beheading fellow Immortal Richie Ryan (Stan Kirsch), thereby killing him off permanently. Consumed with grief and rage over the death of his best friend, Duncan swears vengeance against Ahriman -- but he, and the audience, will have to wait until season six to see how this turns out. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Season four of Highlander begins as handsome 400-year-old Immortal Duncan MacLeod returns to his native Scotland, which then leads to a tense reunion with Charlie DeSalvo (Philip Akin), the man from whom Duncan bought his Vancouver-based martial-arts store. Charlie is determined to kill a man who once saved the life of Joe Dawson, a member of the Watchers organization which hunts down and kills evil Immortals -- so naturally, Charlie and Duncan find themselves on opposite sides of the fence. This is but one of the many fascinating events distinguishing the series' fourth season. Sporadically coming back into Duncan's life is his former mortal sweetheart, Dr. Ann Lindsey (Lisa Howard), who in one of the year's later episodes gives birth to Duncan's daughter Mary. And in another romantic entanglement, Duncan has an affair with Amanda Darieux (Elizabeth Gracen), a onetime cat burglar who in the course of events has become an Immortal herself. The season ends with another burst of melodramatic excitements, as Joe Dawson is put on trial for his life by his fellow Watchers, accused of the unforgivable crime of revealing the existence of the Watchers to an Immortal -- namely, Duncan. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
