The focus in this episode is on Robert Donner) as police informer TeeJay, a familiar if not always welcome figure at the Rampart division. Officers Reed (Kent McCord) and Malloy (Martin Milner) are somewhat surprised when TeeJay is hauled into jail, suspected of assault and robbery. Though the two cops do what they can to help him, TeeJay's past history as a drug addict works against him. In the opening episode of Adam-12's second season, patrol officer Pete Malloy (Martin Milner) is none too thrilled when he and his partner Jim Reed (Kent McCord) are assigned to do community-relations work. Malloy is particularly uncomfortable when he is called upon to deliver a lecture at an elementary school, especially since he'd rather be preparing for an upcoming departmental track meet. But the hard-bitten cop finally shows his human side when he takes a trouble youngster under his wing and helps the boy qualify for the LAPD Junior Olympics. A gang of hoodlums ambush a messenger and a guard for a Wall Street brokerage firm, stealing $400,000 in securities. The guard is killed, but the crooks allow the messenger to go free, and for good reason: The messenger is Paul Thorpe (Robert Walker Jr.), the nephew of a powerful Mafia boss. Refusing to come forward as a witness for fear of being implicated in the crime, Paul succeeds only in causing a lot more trouble for himself and his fiancee Charlene (Patricia Harty).
