LA Law star John Spencer plays a big-city cop with deep and serious emotional problems. His inner turmoil is exacerbated when he plunges into a troublesome murder case. Among the many personal demons with which the cop is wrestling is the memory of how a brief act of impulsiveness in his past led to tragedy. Suzanne is a crooked small-town mayor who pockets illegal money and looks the other way while a local manufacturer dumps industrial waste into an abandoned mine shaft. Unfortunately, she discovers that her partner has also been illegally dumping dangerous toxic substances and that they are poisoning the town water supply. Suzanne's attempts to stop him backfire and she is killed, but not before she tells her ex-husband the sheriff about the whole fiasco. When Suzanne's estranged sister Sunny learns of the murder, she rallies the former members of an all-female commando team to go to the town and get revenge. Previously filmed in 1962 with Geraldine Page and Paul Newman in the leads, Tennessee Williams' Sweet Bird of Youth was restaged for television in 1989 by Nicolas Roeg. Elizabeth Taylor stars as Alexandre Del Lago, a fading, alcoholic, drug-dependent movie star. Mark Harmon co-stars as Chance Wayne, a shiftless would-be actor who romances Alexandre in hopes of getting a few producer's doors opened for him in Hollywood. Assuming that it'll be a simple task to unload Alexandre when he's through with her, Chance has not reckoned with the star's smothering ego. Chance must also contend with Tom Finley (Rip Torn), the fire-breathing political boss who is the father of Chance's hometown sweetheart (Cheryl Paris).
