After making the trip from Mexico to Los Angeles with hopes of starting life anew in America, three cousins find their efforts to earn a living as day laborers quickly sidetracked by their intense experiences in the strange new culture. Upon arriving in East L.A., Tura, Pillo, and Quique are warmly taken in by their Uncle Gilberto. Though Gilberto offers the trio food, shelter, advice, and friendship during their stay in the city, getting work as a day laborer proves much more difficult than any of them ever imagined. Increasingly dejected by the long hours, back-breaking work, and pathetic wages of the day laborer, Pilo slowly begins to succumb to the allure of the drug trade as a means of supplementing his meager income. Though things seem to be going a little better for Tura, who has slowly begun to establish a romantic bond with pretty local Maria, things begin to get a little more stressful as the seductive lothario becomes infatuated with the beautiful wife of his wealthy employer. Meanwhile, conflicted Quique begins to question his sexuality after he is drawn into an affair with homosexual gallery owner West. When tragedy strikes, Tura, Pillo, and Quique all find their loyalties put to the ultimate test. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

One man's fascination with pornography leads him down a path of destruction, hurting both himself and others. In this independent drama, Paul (Michael DeGood) is a young man who has problems with women, who falls into the habit of purchasing pornography and hiring prostitutes. After making a few amateur porn videos on his own, he meets Spano (Craig Wasson), a major producer of adult films who tells Paul he could go far in pornography if he could find the right star. When Paul meets Kate (Katheryn Cain) -- a naive, aspiring actress who has just moved to L.A. -- he thinks he may have found just the right girl to build his career on. But Paul is blind to the dangerous and sordid world he has moved into, and the deeper he goes, the more damage is done to himself and to Kate. Co-star Craig Wasson also served as associate producer for this film, which was shown at the 1999 Santa Barbara Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Softcore porn auteur Gregory Hippolyte directed this thriller featuring plenty of female nudity and starring Nick Cassavetes, son of famed indie director John Cassavetes. Beverly Hills shrink Dr. Jonathan Brooks (Cassavetes) seemingly has everything to lose: wealth, a successful practice, and a beautiful lawyer fiancée, Jennifer (Diana Barton). There's a serial killer on the loose in L.A., so Brooks is helping his cop friend Harry Reams (Richard Roundtree) compile a psychological profile of the murderer. Brooks is also treating an interesting new patient, Laura (Shannon Whirry), a shy hooker who transforms under hypnosis into a completely different woman, the seductive Lana. Brooks has a torrid affair with the irresistible Lana, but he's getting more than he bargained for. Lana steals the videotapes of her "sessions" with the good doctor and blackmails him with the damning evidence, destroying Brooks' life in the process. In the meantime, Harry closes in on a biker (Don Swayze) who might be the killer -- and the suspect has a connection to Lana. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
Radio sex therapist Kate Vernon could use a slice of her own advice in the R-rated Dangerous Touch. Against her better judgement, she falls hard for charismatic Lou Diamond Phillips. As the relationship intensifies (and we see plenty of that intensification), Phillips inveigles Vernon in a hellish world of crime, double-cross and death. Why is it that we would know enough not to get in so deep, but the characters on the screen don't seem to have any sort of built-in early warning system? Why? Because someone has to watch movies like Dangerous Touch, and yell such things as "Look Out!" "Don't Trust Him!" and "What the heck were you thinking of?" at the screen. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

While investigating allegations of malfeasance, an undercover operative, Monica Waldman (Gail Harris) has been raped and murdered. Her boss, private eye Barry Mitchum (Nick Cassavetes) is determined to nail the Callisters, and so is Kay Egan (Tanya Roberts), whose sister committed suicide after being sexually assaulted at the clinic. After Barry and Kay discover they're after the same goal, they join forces to expose the Callisters, with Kay even going so far as to use her body in an effort to help Barry. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
