Peter Pagan Movies
Australian actor Peter Pagan worked extensively on Broadway, but did manage to work from time to time in film and on television. He was perhaps best known for his work in the film The Overlanders. He left his native Australia soon afterwards, for the lure of New York, where he was able to gain some success as a supporting actor. ~ Rovi
The title refers to the duration of the relationship between self-absorbed Wall Street shark Mickey Rourke and divorced art gallery owner Kim Basinger. Kim is looking for true love, while Mickey is searching for...gosh knows what. His notions of lovemaking include blindfolds, ice cubes, chocolate syrup, and rolling around on spent peanut shells. When the alotted 9 1/2 weeks are up, Kim has finally come to realize that Rourke has been using her. We could have told her that twenty minutes into the film. One of the definitive works in the Mickey Rourke ouevre, 9 1/2 Weeks is deliciously awful, and as such will probably endure as a Camp Classic for the next hundred years. Australian action star Chips Rafferty heads the cast of The Overlanders. The time is World War II, and we know one thing for sure: Rafferty is no "Hud." When ordered to kill 1000 head of cattle rather than risk losing them to the Japanese, Rafferty herds the beef-on-hoof across the Australian continent. The 2000-mile cattle drive costs dearly in terms of personal losses to Rafferty and his fellow drovers, but in the end their sacrifices are worth it. The Overlanders is based on a true story, and was specifically selected for adaptation to film as a congratulatory morale-booster for postwar Australian audiences.
